Garren’s POV:
“You have ruined me,” was all I could whisper over and over again. I had no strength to move as everything that had happened played through my mind.
I couldn’t believe he would easily kill the coven just like that, but what was so painful was how he had hurt Roxanne.
I could feel how he was hurt too in the process, but couldn’t understand why he would shut her out. The tears he had shed came from the pain he felt of letting our mate go and fear.
Why would he choose to walk away from her instead of kneeling down and begging her for forgiveness? The deed was already done, and it was obvious she wanted nothing to do with us anymore.
I was furious at him for hiding some things from me and for what he had done in the dark.
“Let it go, Garren. Her being with us will only bring her pain, and it’s already done,” he whispered as I clenched my hands into fists.
“Shut the fuck up, you bastard!” I yelled loudly, startling the witch who stood at the corner of the room, avoiding my gaze.
“And you. You were serving him all along, and yet you couldn’t even do what was right for us. Are you now happy over our sadness?” I asked furiously.
“No, master,” she answered in a low tone, then knelt down on one knee.
“Don’t call me that,” I warned.
“I tried my best to reason with Master Roman, but he couldn’t accept his own happiness. I’m really sorry, Master,” she said as I growled loudly.
“How many times do I have to spell it out for you that I am not your fucking master!” I yelled seriously, and for the first time, she looked up and met my eyes.
“But you are. You and Master Roman are really not that different. You both granted me life from the slums, remember,” she answered with emphasis.
“Are you stupid or what? I am…” I cut my sentence short when a memory flashed into my mind.
“The slums?” I asked in disbelief.
“Yes,” she answered.
“The little injured girl?” I asked in shock.
“Yes, master,” she answered.
“Impossible,” I whispered.
Back in the day when I used to go out to clubs and sleep around, there was a time I came across a gruesome scene.
In the slums, a few sired vampires were feeding on a woman and a teenage girl whose pulse was very faint. It was none of my business, but something in me made me turn their way. By the time I chased away the vampires, the woman was already dead, and the little girl was losing a lot of blood because of the deep bite and claw marks on her body. Her face was slightly disfigured too because of the wound that blinded one of her eyes.
I was supposed to help her, but to me, the girl was as good as dead, just like the woman, so I chose to walk away. But then Roman took over, and everything from then became blurry.
That encounter meant nothing to me because that was all I could remember. But that was a different story for Roman.
I couldn’t believe that she had a great awakening of the witch’s power. Roman might have sensed it right away, that’s why he chose to take her under his wing without letting me know.
Just by how she composed herself and listened to his every order without question, I knew they had a very close relationship.
“Master,” she called softly.
“What is your name?” I asked.
“Jersey,” she answered.
“Jersey, can you do me a favor?” I asked.
“Don’t,” Roman whispered in a pleading tone.
“Yes, master,” she answered.
“Take me to my mate,” I said seriously, ignoring him.
“Pardon?” she asked loudly.
“I know you acknowledge Roman more than me. But as you said, he and I aren’t so different. So, as your master, I order you to take me to her, now,” I commanded.
She stood up, then gave a slight bow and faced me as Roman tried to take over.
“I hope you will forgive me, Master Roman,” she whispered, then raised her hands as we disappeared.
When we appeared in front of Ian’s pack house, I could feel all the stare on me, followed by loud growls.
I wasn’t just an intruder covered in blood to them. I was the monster who had broken the heart of their Alpha’s daughter and tried to kill him.
“You sure have guts,” Ian’s voice came from the pack house as he came into view.
He wasted no time in shifting into his wolf and leaping on me, pushing me down to the ground. As he growled, Jersey moved to act but stopped when I raised my hand.
The scent of blood filled the air as it rolled from my nose. His paws were pressing hard on my chest, and they felt like they were crushing me. Although it was very painful, I stayed still. I cared less if he would sink his teeth into my skin and rip me apart; all I wanted was to see Roxanne for the last time.
I wasn’t going to fight or do a thing, and Roman was respecting that decision. Although he acted tough and unbothered, we both wanted to see Roxanne just once.
As I coughed, blood splattered on his fur. My breathing was slowly turning into pants as the chest pain became unbearable.
“Please!” Jersey yelled and went down to her knees.
I felt dizzy, and slowly I could feel my strength diminishing.
“Ian!” Amelia called loudly when she came out of the pack house.
He reluctantly took a few steps back, allowing me to breathe freely.
Jersey quickly moved to my side and pressed both of her hands on my chest as the pain began to vanish.
“Get out,” Ian ordered when he turned back into his human form.
I sat upright and looked at him sadly. In his eyes, I could see death.
“I will, just after I talk to my mate,” I answered.
“Alpha, allow us to kill him,” The twin warriors said together as they approached us.
They could see how I wasn’t putting up a fight, so killing me would be a piece of cake for them.
He looked at them, then shook his head and looked back at me.
“You have half an hour to talk to her. She’s in her room,” Kyle said when he stepped out, surprising me.
“Son! Are you insane?” Ian yelled at the top of his voice.
“No, father, I am not. But I will be if I don’t allow my sister to say her final goodbye. As it is, she’s still crying herself to death,” he answered in a pained tone.
“Now go, the clock is ticking,” he said as I quickly got up and rushed into the pack house, following her scent.
Once I was at her bedroom door, I raised my hand to knock but stopped.
I had no idea how she would react. Would she reject me, perhaps attack me?
Would she tremble in fear like before or yell at me? I was scared, very scared.
I was about to touch the door handle to open it when it opened and Roxanne stepped out.
She looked at me with tears running down her cheeks as her body trembled.
“Roxanne, I know you fear and hate me, but I…”
I cut my sentence short when she wrapped her arms around my shoulders, crying loudly.
I instantly embraced her back and went down to my knees with her as I sobbed.
