Jay’s POV:
“I’m sorry,” I apologized softly.
“Over what?” she asked simply.
“My parents. Not only did they show up unannounced, but they also acted way too familiar around you. They must have made you feel uncomfortable,” I answered.
“What? No way. I was so happy to meet them. Also, they were so cheerful and friendly to me. To be honest, I would love to visit them someday, so they could meet Daisy,” she said.
“Really?” I asked softly, then moved closer and held her hands in mine.
“Yes, really. If she wasn’t sleeping, I would have brought her to the living room so they could meet her,” she answered.
I smiled and pulled her into my embrace.
She was truly a living miracle in my life.
Not only was I now on good terms with my parents because of her, but I was also happier.
“I really don’t know what I did to deserve you. You are just so good, honest, and loving,” I whispered softly.
She pulled back and looked me in the eyes with a sad expression on her face.
“What’s wrong?” I asked in concern.
“Jay, I haven’t been entirely honest with you,” she said as I smiled warmly at her.
If it’s about how you got rid of the bastard who made you suffer, then I don’t mind. My parents have taken down a few people who stood in their way. That’s why they are where they are and have all that they have,” I answered.
“No, that’s only part of the truth,” she said.
“Please take a seat,” she instructed, and I slowly complied.
What could she be hiding? That’s what went through my mind as I waited for her to tell me everything.
“The man I killed was my second husband, not my first,” she said, then moved and sat opposite me as I frowned.
“Then where is your first husband?” I asked seriously.
“He is still alive but hates me with all his heart,” she answered.
“I don’t understand,” I whispered.
“Do you believe that werewolves exist?” she asked, and I laughed.
Was she messing around with me? Of course, wolves were in every country. They did exist.
“I hope you aren’t thinking about those lame regular wolves. I’m talking about werewolf shifters, like those who can turn into both human and werewolf,” she said, and I looked at her seriously.
Those were in movies and books, but not in real life. Everyone knew that.
“I can see through your eyes how you think they aren’t real when, in truth, they are. Werewolf shifters exist in real life, and I’m one of them. They live in territories they claim and have a pack, which, to the human eye, seems like a large village,” she said, then continued.
“The pack, or should I say packs, is run by an Alpha, whether female or male. Their right hand is usually a Beta, who is second in command, and they also have Gammas and Deltas. Some packs have healers, while others have seers, warlocks, and witches. Omegas are the lowest rank in the pack and they are considered fragile, sometimes weak and pathetic. However, in some packs, they represent a symbol of motherhood and are treated very well because they have a high rate of birthing Alphas, whether male or female,” she said as I rubbed my forehead and then dropped my hand.
“Were you an actress by chance or involved in the entertainment industry? I can’t believe you got me paying attention to fiction,” I said, then laughed softly.
“Just listen, okay? Because this is serious,” she said as I kept quiet.
“My kind and I believe in a moon goddess who is our maker and giver of life. She grants each werewolf a chance to love, which is why she created what we call mates. A mate is like a life partner given to us by her. That person is meant to be our equal, whether Omega, Beta, Alpha, or whatever supernatural being they are. They are meant to love, respect, and forever support us for life. It’s like what you humans call marriage, but somehow different. So instead of a ring, the werewolf marks the partner as a claim and fulfillment of their bond,” she said as I raised a brow.
It was becoming more and more fictional, yet I wanted her to tell me everything, even if it was just a joke.
“As good as it may sound, not all werewolves are lucky enough to find mates who truly love them. Some find out that their mates aren’t born yet, while some find that they have already died. A few are rejected because their mates are already married, mated to someone else, or they just don’t want to be with them due to certain circumstances. When a werewolf rejects their partner and bond, it becomes hard for them. A few can handle it with time because they end up finding a second chance mate or a third, but mostly those who don’t end up losing their sanity and turning into rogues, werewolves without a pack, reason, and a thirst to kill,” she said, then sighed heavily.
“Some rogues do have reasons, and they manage to keep their sanity despite losing their path and killing any threat that gets in their way. But they are rare, and that doesn’t make them any lesser rogues,” she said.
“So, what’s the whole point of telling me all this?” I asked seriously.
She glared at me and then stood up.
“How many times do I have to say that I am one of them? Look, my first mate was a maniac before meeting me. He ambushed packs for fun and killed mercilessly. One day, he killed my family and pack members when I was away, and I took it upon myself to seek revenge. So when it was discovered that we were mates, he accepted me and lowered his guard. That’s when I took down his pack too and burned everything. Luckily, the fire didn’t kill him, but it did injure him,” she said loudly.
“Alec is a Beta who is serving as my first mate’s right hand. Although my first mate asked him to take me to the beach house out of kindness, he hates me to the point of wanting me dead. Not only did I kill his people, but I also killed my second chance mate for being a horrible abuser. And you, Jay, are my third chance mate. That’s why you feel so attracted to me and love me like you do,” she said.
I sighed softly, then stood up and clapped.
“That would make an amazing book and movie. Sell it right away before someone has a similar idea,” I said seriously.
“Jay!” she exclaimed.
“Look, Debby, I love how you’re trying to cheer me up after my parents left, but I want you to know that I’m okay,” I answered.
“I knew it. You wouldn’t believe me. That’s why I told you everything before shifting. That way, when I do shift, you will understand everything I said,” she said as I smirked.
“I’m getting a little hungry. Should I prepare something for us?” I asked, then frowned when she closed her eyes.
“Is that a no? Aren’t you ….”
I cut my sentence short when I noticed how her bones began to shift, as if they were breaking. I couldn’t move because I was terrified. She fell to the ground, and in just a few minutes, a huge wolf stood in her place.
