Book:The Dominant Alpha (Series) Published:2025-3-10

Debby’s POV:
I woke up with pain in my lower abdomen, and my throat was dry.
“Ah,” I moaned in discomfort while I looked at the ceiling with a frown.
As the events played in my mind, I quickly sat upright and groaned loudly in pain. Jay rushed to my side and touched my shoulder.
“Easy,” he whispered.
I moved my hands to my stomach in fear.
“My baby?” I asked in a husky voice.
“Look to your left,” he whispered.
I hesitantly turned and looked. A nurse was standing there, smiling at me with a baby in her arms wrapped in a beautiful pink blanket.
“Is that my…”
“Child, yes. The little princess is a warrior. She made it, just like you did,” he said softly as I swallowed a lump in my throat and looked at him angrily.
He slowly dropped his hand and sat down at the edge of the bed next to me.
“Debby, I want to apologize for…”
“I want to hold her,” I said, cutting him off seriously.
“Of course,” the nurse answered and quickly moved closer, giving the pup to me.
Once she was in my arms, tears filled my eyes.
I could already feel a strong connection and bond between us, and my wolf was purring happily at finally meeting her.
“She is beautiful, isn’t she?” he asked.
“Yes,” I answered, and then sniffed as tears ran down my cheeks.
“Nurse, can you give us some privacy?” he asked.
“Of course,” she answered, then walked out.
When he pressed his hand against my cheek, I tensed and looked him in the eyes.
“Debby, I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart for doing that to you. At that moment, I couldn’t think straight, and all I could think of was running away, even at the cost of your life. If you can forgive me, then I will do my best to make it up to you. I will also keep the kidnapping incident our little secret,” he said.
Was the mate pull already taking effect? Why was he saying all that to me?
“Why are you saying all this to me, and why are you being very nice?” I asked seriously.
“Because for some unknown reason, I feel something for you, and I want to protect you from anything that might hurt you,” he answered with a sad smile.
“I think you feel this way towards me because of guilt. Remember Olivia?” I asked seriously.
He dropped his hand and shifted backwards.
“I should admit, I did feel guilty over pushing you, but now I don’t. I also do remember Olivia very well, but for some reason, I don’t feel anything for her. I feel like I was living a dream back then, and from nowhere, someone pulled me out,” he answered.
I diverted my attention to my little pup, who still had her eyes closed and was sleeping peacefully. I wanted to see her eye color, and I knew it was too soon, but I was praying so hard she wouldn’t be an alpha.
“I am trash, you know. I don’t even remember Micah’s birth that well. I hate to admit it, but I cared less about my own child. I only began to love her after her mother’s death,” he said as I looked at him seriously.
“Why are you telling me this?” I asked.
Any man who was in his right mind or was trying not to make someone uncomfortable wouldn’t say that.
“Because when I saw you unresponsive, I prayed to God for mercy and favor for the first time. In that prayer, I vowed to treat you right and never keep you in the dark if you ever make it,” he answered as my mind went back to my dying thoughts.
I, too, was praying for another chance, and in that moment, I said how I would open up to him.
“I killed my husband by poisoning him. I couldn’t take it anymore with how he was hitting and forcing himself on me. I went through so much until one day I snapped,” I said sadly, expecting him to yell or get up and walk out of the room to call the cops on me.
When he smirked and shifted closer, I frowned.
“I think that was a badass move,” he whispered, shocking me, then leaned in.
I found myself leaning in to kiss him instead of asking him why he was taking it lightly.
When the door opened, I quickly pulled back and looked at the man standing there. By his clothes and coat, I could tell he was a doctor.
“I’m sorry for interrupting you,” he said and then moved closer as the door shut itself behind him.
“Hi, I’m Martinez, a renowned surgeon and your savior,” he introduced himself with a smile.
“Cut it out, Martin. Can’t you just introduce yourself properly?” Jay asked.
“Fine. Hi, I’m Martinez, Jay’s younger brother and the one who was in charge of your surgery,” he introduced himself again.
“Brother?” I asked in a low tone.
“I know we look nothing alike. Not only that, I’m famous due to work and my family status. If Jay didn’t cut ties with our parents, he too would have been a millionaire and living a dream life,” he said as I looked at Jay in shock.
“Say one more word, Martin, and I promise you this: I’ll never visit you in any way,” Jay warned.
“I’m sorry, brother,” Martin apologized playfully with laughter, then stopped laughing.
“I’m glad that he rushed you here on time. If he didn’t, you would have died. Also, it’s good to finally meet you, sister-in-law. It’s a blessing to also meet my niece,” he said as I widened my eyes.
Sister-in-law! Niece? What was going on?
“Thank you, brother, for your help. But if it’s not too much to ask, can you keep this news from our parents until I am ready to meet them personally?” Jay asked.
“Of course, I’m actually happy hearing you talk about meeting them after many years,” he answered.
I looked at Jay, expecting him to clarify that there was nothing between us.
When a minute went by, I decided to play along.
“No, I’m just still in pain and shock,” I lied.
“Don’t worry, you will heal in a few months. Also, the nurse will give you something to help you relax,” he said.
If only he knew I was already healed. Immediately after I woke up, my wounds began healing, and right now I was fine and in no pain.
“Thank you so much for your help,” I answered as he nodded.
“I’ll leave you guys to talk for now, but after some time, you will have to get some rest. Jay, in my office, there is a bathroom. You should take a bath and change your clothes. You look like shit,” he said, then walked out before Jay could respond.
“I’m sorry, when I rushed you here, I told him you were my lover to avoid a lot of questions,” he said as I smiled at him.
He helped me a lot, and he had no idea. I wasn’t happy about him pushing me to the floor, but then again, I too would have done the same if I were in the same situation. Not only that, I had nowhere to go for my delivery, but now because of him, I was holding my pup in my arms.
“It’s okay, I’m glad to just be alive,” I whispered.
He stood up and leaned in, giving me a kiss on my head.
“The nurse will be here soon for the baby, so relax and get some rest,” he said and then walked out of the room.
I was surprised by a few things, and among those few things was the fact that Jay came from such a well-to-do family, and that his little brother had a very good job.
But besides that, I was just happy to be alive.
