Olivia’s POV:
“Olivia, it’s me,” Alec’s voice came through the door.
Micah quickly moved behind me to hide.
“Please come in,” I answered.
He opened the door and walked in with his brother and another man.
“How are you holding up?” His brother asked me once he stood a little further away from me.
“I’m okay. Thank you so much for your care,” I answered.
“This here is Lee, our close family friend. He is a doctor and he came here to meet you. He was surprised that I had a lover and dared me to introduce him. He is also a lame magician,” Alec said as Lee glared at him.
“I’m not a lame magician. Magic is beautiful,” he answered, then took a step closer and extended his hand to me.
“Nice to meet you,” he said as I quickly shook it.
“I’m Olivia. Nice to meet you too,” I answered softly.
“And who is that little beauty hiding behind you?” He asked when he had pulled his hand away.
“This is my niece, Micah,” I answered.
He knelt down on one knee, looking at her.
“Micah, would you like to see a magic trick?” He asked.
She shook her head and grabbed my trousers in her fists.
“Look at this,” he said and then put his hands together. When he parted them, a yellow dim light came from there, and a rose flower appeared in mid-air, floating.
I was amazed and astonished by his magic trick.
“Feel free to pick the rose, little princess, because if you don’t, it will disappear,” he whispered.
Micah hesitated but walked from behind me and approached the rose as it slowly came down to her height.
She raised her hand and slowly grabbed it.
She looked at me with a smile, then at Lee.
“Can Mama have one too?” she asked happily.
“Of course, your mother deserves a bunch, but before that, can you allow Uncle Lee to check your temperature?” he asked.
She kept quiet, then nodded.
He held each side of her shoulders, then leaned in, pressing his forehead against hers for a few seconds.
“Perfect,” he whispered, then pulled back and stood up.
“She has no fever and she’s alright,” he said, and then snapped his fingers as a bunch of blue roses appeared in the air.
He grabbed them and gave them to me with a smile.
“A gift from me,” he said as I happily received the roses from him and inhaled their scent deeply.
They instantly made me feel calm and at peace.
“I wish I could stay longer, but sadly I can’t. I have to go back home,” he said.
“Thank you very much for the roses,” I happily said.
“No problem you’re welcome,” he answered and then walked out of the room with the rest.
“Mama,” Micah called happily.
“Yes, honey,” I answered.
“When I grow up, I want to be a magician too,” she said proudly.
“Of course, honey, but you have to work hard first,” I answered, then moved to the bed and sat down with a smile.
I was happy that Alec was this serious about us. He wasn’t hiding how he felt about me to his family, and that was more than I had imagined him doing.
When the door opened, I quickly got to my feet.
He walked in with a smile and moved closer.
I frowned when he knelt down in front of Micah, who had her gaze lowered to the ground.
“Should I invite Lee over again?” he asked as she quickly looked at him.
“Can you do that?” she asked cheerfully, shocking me.
She really did love his magic. Not a second ago, she was acting terrified, but now she was cheerful.
“Of course I can. I can also ask him to make you whatever you want, be it a doll, candy, or a playhouse,” he answered.
“Wow, a doll would be amazing,” she said as he smiled at her.
“By the way, we never had a chance to introduce each other. I am Alec, but you can call me Uncle Alec if you don’t mind,” he said.
She lowered her gaze to the ground again and moved one of her legs back and forth.
“Uncle Alec,” she muttered in a low tone.
He moved his hand and gently brushed her hair.
“You know what, how about we go into town and get some ice cream? Your mother also needs a new set of clothes, as well as you. Should we go?” he asked.
“Yes!” she exclaimed happily.
He looked at me with a grin as I smiled.
“When are we leaving?” I asked.
“Right now, because if I get into the office, I won’t come out until the next day,” he answered.
“Okay, then give me a second,” I said and rushed into the bathroom, putting the bunch of roses in the tub and moving to the mirror to look at myself.
I brushed my fingers through my hair and checked my teeth. I didn’t want to look bad; I wanted to look pretty or presentable in front of him.
“You look just fine,” Alec said when he walked in.
I shyly moved my hands to my heated cheeks, then tensed when he stood behind me, putting each of his hands on the sink, trapping me.
I looked in the mirror and saw how he was looking back at me.
My heart was beating rapidly, and I couldn’t lower my gaze. I loved his height and his face! I actually loved everything about him.
“Should we go now?” I asked in a low tone.
He moved his hands and wrapped his arms around my shoulders.
“Now that I am seeing your beautiful face, I don’t feel like going anywhere,” he said as I quickly turned and faced him.
“We have to, Micah is happily looking forward to us going out,” I answered loudly.
“I can’t believe you took the bait,” he said, then chuckled softly.
“What bait?” I asked.
He grabbed my cheeks, then leaned in and kissed my lips lightly and playfully.
“There,” he whispered, as I shyly moved my hand to cover my mouth.
“Let’s go. Now I feel energized,” he said, then walked out before I could say a word.
I dropped my hand and turned, looking at myself in the mirror.
It wasn’t the kiss I was expecting us to share, but it was still a kiss, and I liked it.
I moved my hand to my face, pressing two fingers against my lips.
How would it feel if it were a French kiss that would take my breath away and make my knees weak? Would I be the one begging him to stay back?
“Mama,” Micah called loudly.
“Yes, honey. I’m done. I’m coming out now,” I answered, then rushed out of the bathroom.
