Mika’s POV:
We stood at the side of the bed in a ward, looking at our little warrior as she lay sleeping peacefully. A drip was on her wrist, and her breathing was stable.
“She will be fine,” the Luna said softly and then walked out of the room.
I looked around carefully to see if they had any cameras installed. Once I was sure they didn’t, I looked at Bevin.
“Was it wise to tell them the partial truth, Xiao?” I asked seriously.
“Yes, it was because the Alpha could have easily ordered my wolf to submit to him and tell them everything, yet he didn’t. That goes to show how kind and understanding he is. Also, if we didn’t take their offer, who knows what could have happened to us? We could have been dead, or my baby girl would have lost her life,” he answered.
“And one more thing, don’t call me Xiao here, but Bevin,” he said as I frowned, then nodded.
I didn’t like that he had told them the most, but we still needed a place to rest and some food before deciding on our next move.
I moved to the chair opposite the bed and sat down.
Xiao’s story missed a few points, and that was me being his first mate. There was no second mate and no vampires chasing after us.
Also, that little girl on the bed was our biological daughter, a hybrid.
Xiao and I met a few years ago outside his pack’s border while he was having a stroll in his wolf form. I was out hunting.
As usual, I was alone because I wanted nothing to do with the coven. For years, I had lived a peaceful life until he came into it.
Did we fight on our first encounter? No.
While I was ready to, he kept on saying some load of shit about me being his mate.
The guy even dared to follow me back to my hidden house while knowing it might be a trap.
I was very concerned about him doing all this to lower my guard so he could attack me, but there was never a day that he did.
He went back to his pack and came back to my house every day. Although he was the son of a lead warrior and Delta, he seemed too relaxed.
He was a nuisance, but a part of me was happy because I had been lonely for a long time.
We ate together and spent most of our time chatting and laughing. Soon, we grew closer and developed feelings for each other. Through our love, our baby was born. At first, we were both in shock because we knew vampires were never meant to conceive. I had only heard of such a story once and took it as a bluff. But then it happened to me!
Unlike human beings, who take nine months to deliver, I gave birth to my child in just five months. I was so scared and panicked a few times because I didn’t know what to do.
One day, he decided to go with us to his pack. I was very much against it, but he pointed out how we both had no idea how to raise a child and that his parents would welcome us despite knowing what I was.
Because I loved and trusted him, I decided to go with him, but the welcome I received wasn’t what I had expected. Immediately after we had crossed the pack, I was grabbed and separated from my family. I could have fought back, but I was afraid of what might happen to my child and man, so I decided to go with them.
I was pushed into a cell for being a vampire, an enemy to their kind, and fed small doses of otis to weaken my state.
There, I was starved, mocked, and treated like trash while Xiao pleaded with his family and Alpha.
The only thing that comforted me was the fact that my baby was taken care of by Xiao’s parents, who seemed to think she was a werewolf, not a hybrid.
Once a week, Xiao found a way to meet me in secret and feed me his blood. The taste wasn’t pleasant, yet I fed to stay sane and alive.
I withstood everything I went through for a few months until one night, the pack was happily drinking and celebrating their soon-to-be alpha finding his mate.
There were no guards outside my cell and no one checking up on me. Xiao took that chance to help me break free.
We ran to the pack’s border, where I found his mother with my baby. My instincts told me she really was my daughter, despite me being in shock. Only a few months had gone by, yet she looked like a five-year-old; she was growing up fast.
Although Xiao’s mother was heartbroken to let her granddaughter go, she knew it was the best decision because my child would come to hate her upon knowing the truth.
With a happy heart, we crossed the pack’s border, but that became an act of betrayal for Xiao to his Alpha. Not only did he go against his orders, he chose me over his own home.
A few warriors were sent after us, and that’s how our journey began.
We ran day and night and only rested for a few hours.
Xiao and I exchanged hunting so that we could gather our strength. I fed on animal blood while he burned the meat and ate with our daughter.
I was weaker because I wasn’t feeding on human blood, but that wasn’t something that could make me give up.
For months, we traveled until we stumbled upon this territory and received an offer to stay.
At first, I didn’t trust anyone, but I felt grateful that my baby was finally receiving the right treatment.
“Excuse me,” an elderly woman said while opening the door.
I quickly stood up as my mouth watered. Right in her hand was a pint of human blood, and it smelled divine.
“The Alpha has asked me to give…”
Before she could finish her sentence, I moved in a split second and grabbed the pint from her hand, quickly sinking my fangs in.
As the delicious liquid flowed into my mouth, a soft moan escaped my lips, and my body trembled in pleasure.
This was what I had been dying for, for a long time. I felt lighter, and my body slowly relaxed as tears filled my eyes.
“Mika, it’s alright,” Xiao whispered softly.
I pulled the pint from my lips and looked at the elderly woman with an apologetic look. I didn’t want to scare her; it’s just that I couldn’t control myself.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered softly.
“It’s okay, dear. If it’s not enough, I can bring you two more,” she said as I widened my eyes.
“You can do that for me?” I asked seriously.
“Of course, you are now part of this pack. I’m just surprised that you didn’t suspect the blood to be poisoned,” she answered, making me look at the almost empty pint.
“Oh,” I muttered softly.
I was so hungry that I paid no attention to such a thing.
“I’m not saying that the blood was poisoned, I’m just happy that you didn’t suspect me or our Alpha. By the way, I’m called Maggie,” she said as I cleared my throat.
“I’m called Mika, and that man over there is my mate, Bevin,” I whispered as she smiled at me, and I found myself smiling back.
Maybe it wasn’t such a bad pack after all.
