Sherry’s POV:
“Sherry, I will see you after training. I hope you will have a good time with Maggie while I’m away. Feel free to ask her for anything you want.” Those were his last words, which I believed.
For hours, I waited for him until Maggie asked me to sleep because it was past 11 pm.
I was so surprised that my mate would lie to me about seeing me after his training.
Why was he lying to me? Was it because of what I said?
I didn’t mean to cut him off when he asked about who had blinded me. I just felt scared and insecure for some reason. After that, he sounded hurt, although he did his best to sound okay.
When I heard the sound of an opening door, I quickly sat upright on the bed.
“Damon,” I called softly.
A few seconds went by before he cleared his throat.
“Why are you awake this late? It’s past midnight, you know,” he said in a lazy voice, then closed the door.
“I was concerned about y-”
“Funny. You know you are very funny,” he said as I heard his footsteps approach me.
“I’m serious. You said you would see me after you finish your-”
“What, am I now entitled to you?” he asked harshly, cutting me off.
“Let’s check the facts first, shall we?. First of all, you are complicated because I can’t tell if you genuinely like me or fear me. Secondly, you are too secretive that I wonder if I have made the right decision to trust you. Lastly, you forget that I’m not the one that hurt you because I’m your mate, and mates don’t hurt their partners, unless they are psycho or they want revenge!” he yelled, surprising me.
“I took you in, didn’t I? I accepted you the way you are, didn’t I? The least you could do is tell me the damn truth about your life!” he demanded bitterly.
Without waiting for my response, he continued to speak.
“I’m scarred, yet I am more than ready to tell you how it all went down in my past. As it is, I’m being honest with my emotions. I would have kicked you out because of the fear that whore, my first mate, installed in me, but no, I didn’t. Despite her burning my face and part of my body, I still got excited to have you as my second chance mate! What the fuck does that tell you about me?” he screamed harshly as my heart ached badly.
My body was slightly trembling, and tears were running down my cheeks.
I wasn’t crying because of how scared I was of him. I was crying because of the weight of his words. He was right about how I was acting, and it hurt badly knowing that he had a first mate who was that heartless to him.
Just staying with him for a few days made me know how kind he was. So it was obvious she was the one who was bad-hearted.
“What, are you now crying? Is it your damn hobby to cry?” he asked me as I wiped off my tears and moved my hands on the bed to move to the edge.
Once I touched the edge, I moved and slowly stood up.
Before I could move forward, I heard him move, and in no time, his hand was on my wrist.
“What, do you want to run away?” he asked coldly.
“No, I wanted to touch you,” I answered honestly.
“Why is that?” he asked in a low tone.
“Because I want to apologize for unintentionally hurting you,” I answered huskily.
He huffed, then moved my hand to his face.
I trailed my finger on his cheek, then caressed his skin.
“Damon, I won’t run away no matter what harsh words you throw at me. I understand you are upset with me. That’s why I want to ask for your forgiveness because I want to be with you,” I said sadly as tears continued to fall.
“I want to trust you, Sherry. I really do. After training, all I could think about was you. That’s why I had to try and drink myself to sleep. Sadly, all that the whiskey could do was get me tipsy even with wolfsbane in it. Fuck, what am I even saying to a human girl?” he answered in a disappointed tone.
I wanted to keep playing dumb, but he didn’t deserve such a selfish act from me. If I wanted us to make our relationship work, then he needed to know everything. I gathered my courage and dropped my hand from his cheek.
“I know what an Alpha is,” I said as the room went completely quiet.
“What?” he asked in a whisper.
“I know that werewolves exist and that they live in packs. I also know that an alpha is the one that runs the pack with his Luna,” I answered, then swallowed hard, waiting for him to say something to me.
When several minutes went by, I got very worried and afraid.
“Damon, are you-”
“Who are you?” his cold question came.
“I am-”
“Are you a hunter!” he growled loudly as the ground slightly shook.
“No, Alpha, I’m not a hunter. I was actually a Luna of a certain pack. My partner was an Alpha by the name of Ian, and my mate was his beta, Neo,” I answered quickly, trying to make him understand that I was no threat to him or his pack.
Telling him the truth was going to cost me so much, yet I didn’t want him to find out from someone else. I wanted him to know my past from me, and this was the right time because he wasn’t in love with me yet to feel betrayed.
“By chance, is that pack run by an Alpha Queen?” he asked seriously.
I hesitated before answering.
“Yes, it is.”
“So, you come from that Savage pack, huh? If your partner was Ian, then does that mean you are the Luna who served all the high ranks and later turned against him by poisoning him and putting the blame on his Beta?” he asked in a cracked voice.
I had no idea how he knew the story so well. All I knew was that I was terrified of losing him because I could hear the pain in his voice as he spoke.
“Sherry, I asked you a damn question. Are you that Luna?” he growled loudly as I shook my head in fear.
“Is that a yes or no, Sherry?” he asked between gritted teeth.
“Yes, I am,” I answered as my voice broke.
“So, losing your sight was his given punishment, isn’t it?” he asked simply.
“No, his punishment with me was lenient because he just banished me. The one who blinded me was my mate, his Beta. After his rejection, losing my sight as well as my wolf, I thought so hard about my life, and I began seeing things differently,” I answered, then sniffed.
My tears couldn’t stop rolling down my cheeks because I was so scared of losing him, and my heart was hurting.
“You know what? I’m out of here,” he said as I tried to move quickly to stop him but ended up falling down.
I heard his footsteps move further away, then the door opening and then closing.
I quickly began to crawl while calling out his name, but all that met me was silence.
“He was going to reject me. He was going to banish me just like they did.” That’s all that went into my mind as I called out his name louder.
I was begging him to forgive me on top of my voice without caring if I was going to be hit for the noise I was making or not because I really needed to talk to him, even if it was for the last time.
