“I wonder. I don’t know.”
Kai caressed Alexandra’s face. He didn’t really care how he looked at the moment. In front of him was already Alexandra, who had already replenished his soul. That woman fascinated him so much, especially after their union.
Kai had to tell Alexandra about his current situation. He was lucky, as the elite hunters lost the trail. The moonlight was in his favour, so his vampire trail was not picked up by them.
“How should I call you?”
“Alex is fine.”
“Okay. Alex, there’s something I need to tell you. I’m part of the Red Crescent Moon Pack, but because of a problem with vampires, I had to leave for a while. Some vampires were after me, and now I managed to escape from them. I need to return to the pack to clear my tracks.”
“You’re part of them? What a coincidence! Should I come with you back there?”
“Considering our union earlier, yes. You’re part of the Red Crescent Moon now. I will tell Seth about this or Edith first. I don’t have a very good relationship with Seth; maybe talking to Edith first will be a consideration for Seth to accept you as part of the pack.”
Alexandra listened carefully to Kai’s explanation. Her attention was distracted when the baby woke up from wetting the bed. She cleaned the baby and changed her nappy with a new one.
Kai smiled at the activity. He remembered how he used to help Edith take care of Skyler when she was Alexandra’s baby.
“Did you see Skyler when you were there?”
“Who’s Skyler?”
“Oh. Baby Juliette is Edith’s daughter. I called her Skyler.”
“Yes, she can already walk.”
“I see. I love her; she’s an adorable baby. Can I hold your baby?”
Alexandra handed her baby from her lap to Kai’s hand. She watched how Kai interacted with the baby. Alexandra smiled when the baby chuckled at Kai’s teasing.
“What’s his name?”
“I haven’t given him a name yet. I’ve just been calling him Eros. It’s his father’s nickname. Do you like children? I see you got along with my baby quickly.”
“I like kids. Ever since I became a vampire, I lost hope of having offspring.”
Alexandra caught the bitterness in Kai’s words. The guy still had his wolf side, and it was possible to have offspring, according to him. She wondered what evil creature had made Kai become like that.
“Just think of my baby as your child too. It seems like he likes you too.”
“Oh, really? I’m glad to hear that. Okay, we’ll go back to Red Crescent Moon, and you’ll be friends with Skylar.”
*
The sun had already appeared on the eastern horizon when Kai and Alexandra arrived at the main gate of the pack house. The gate automatically opened as soon as Kai touched the fence. He took Alexandra’s hand to walk beside him.
Kai hadn’t seen any significant activity this morning aside from the warriors who had been standing guard at the front boundary of the pack house area. He continued his steps to reach the front door. The first werewolf Kai saw when the door opened was Emma. He immediately hugged her, and she greeted him with a warm smile.
“You’ll never guess what happened to me, mum.”
Emma took a quick glance at Alexandra. Of course she knew what happened between them; she just smiled in response and pretended not to know. To Emma, Kai was still the innocent 7-year-old boy who managed to win the race and show off his achievement.
“He’s my imprint, mum. Do you believe that?”
“I believe you, Kai. I’ll make breakfast for you guys. Alpha and Luna will be up soon. You can have breakfast together.”
Emma rushed into the kitchen with several omegas following her. The woman seemed to speak with authority as she left them in the great hall. Kai seated himself on the long sofa and looked around the room.
“Nothing has changed since my departure. I thought there would be something crucial in this house.”
“Maybe I’m that crucial one.”
“What do you mean?”
“Seth saved me from Matthieu’s captivity, and I think everyone has become more cautious since I’m a Lycan. It’s like everyone here is afraid to look at me.”
“They are like that. This pack is probably the strangest because there are three hybrids and one tribrid. Now that you are a Lycan, since we’re different, maybe they’re kind of keeping their distance from us.”
“Yeah, you’re right, Kai.”
Kai looked at Edith, who was walking in the corridor, leading her daughter. Their gazes met for a split second. Edith finally realised that Kai had just returned. She took Julie in her arms and walked over to Kai, who had stretched out his arms to hug Julie.
“Hey, little vampire. Did you miss me?”
Little Julie only babbled incoherently while in Kai’s arms, but her expression was so enthusiastic as she tugged at Kai’s black hair.
“When did you come?” asked Edith when she could see Kai’s face, which was covered by Julie’s body.
“Just now. We have a lot to tell you. I’ll tell you after we have breakfast,” Kai smiled proudly.
Edith eyed Kai, then her eyes fell on Alexandra and kept alternating until she finally realised something.
“You just came? Why aren’t you on fire?”
“I don’t know. Hey, do you expect me to get scorched by the sun? What a sarcastic question!” Kai felt unacceptable and put his hands on his waist.
“It’s just weird seeing… um, you two. Especially since your face looks fresher and not as pale as mine. Is that so weird? You’re so… wolfish, Kai,” said Edith, who was still assuming.
“Kai… Kai… aaauuu,” little Julie replied to her mother’s words, breaking the laughter of the adults around her.
The three of them chatted lightly as they waited for their breakfast. Until Seth appeared, wearing only a black t-shirt and grey shorts, typical of people who had just woken up, he called Edith, which Edith immediately responded to by moving quickly towards Seth, who was ten yards in front of her.
“Why didn’t you wake me up, honey?” That was the first sentence Seth uttered when he saw Edith beside him.
“I couldn’t bear to wake you up this early, Seth. Ah yes, Kai is back.”
Seth sharpened his vision. Seth’s first reaction was to growl and shift his form into that of a brown wolf. He bared his sharp fangs at Kai as if he were ready to attack.
Kai felt something strange rise up inside him. The desire for self-preservation came out of nowhere, and without him realising it, he shifted into the form of a black wolf. The two growled at each other and stepped heavily to get closer.
Seeing Kai, who seemed to be threatened, Alexandra shifted herself into a large black wolf and stepped in line with Kai. She growled even more forcefully to show her existence.
“You guys, if you want to fight outside, don’t make a mess of this house!” Edith screamed.
The next second, the three wolves were already running outside, with Seth and Kai pouncing on each other. Alexandra followed behind without knowing what the two male wolves were saying.
[It’s been a while since I’ve sparred with you, Kai.]
[Don’t lose your nerve, Seth!]
