Protection Magic

“I trust you, Eva.”
She nodded. As she chanted, she spread her hands apart and made a few up-and-down motions with them in the air. Her attention was fixed on the building in front of her. A transparent shield soon encircled it.
“Give me your hands.” Eva said this to Seth and Edith, who were to her left and right.
Both of them then gave their hands to each other. Eva closed her eyes and chanted her last spell out loud. In the next second, the transparent shield thickened and was coated in a bright blue light.
Eva loosened her grip. She looked to her left and right, then said, “It’s done. You will be protected from attacks by vampires or werewolves who are not members of your pack, but this protection magic is not strong enough to withstand attacks from high-level magic for too long. At least it gives you time to save yourselves.”
The three’s eyes were distracted when they heard a loud explosion from a tree not far from where they were standing. The tree set itself on fire suddenly, making Seth and Edith curious as to what exactly happened.
“Well, that’s a sign that someone is spying on you. Someone stored something like an owl’s eyeball in that tree. My magic managed to detect it and burn the eyeball. It’s a witch!”
“Ace!” said Seth and Edith simultaneously.
“There’s a witch stalking you. I don’t think vampires would do that considering they already have Kai, and werewolves like Matthieu are done with holding your father captive in the Black Bold.”
“What is the witch after?” asked Seth, who continued to be curious about this matter of reconnaissance.
“Your daughter. She’s the first tribrid on this earth. I also felt very strong magic energy from your daughter. Mikael and Matthieu haven’t realised this yet, but if they do, they will probably hunt your daughter down.”
“By the Moon Goddess, Julie is still very young,” interrupted Edith, who was getting scared.
“I can help you by reducing her magic power so that it cannot be detected by the vampire and werewolf leaders, but it will fade after she turns eighteen and we witches; even low-level witches can definitely sense each other’s magic energy,” explained Eva, who was pulling the blue thread from inside her head and putting it into a small glass bottle.
“Do what you think is best, Eva. We’re depending on you.”
I’m a little worn out with this protection magic right now, but we’ll do it tomorrow night. I must first regain my strength.
“Thank you, Eva Quince, the High Witch of Yorkshire,” said Edith sincerely.
“Thank you, Luna Edith. I’m delighted to help you.”

Edith was soothing a crying Julie. The little baby had been grumpy since morning, and Edith assumed that little Julie had sensed that she was about to be sealed away. Edith coaxed Julie with toys, but nothing could comfort the little baby and stop her crying.
“At this point, usually only Kai can calm her down. I wonder where he is now.” Edith lamented to herself.
“He went back to France to rejoin the vampire clan,” said Seth, who had a cold look on his face as he said it.
“How do you know, Seth?”
“I was going to ask for his help to investigate the French vampires, but he went there voluntarily. Jed, who saw him last time in this house, told me that Kai seemed to be in a daze.”
Edith thought for a moment; she felt there was something strange about Kai’s behaviour if what Jed said was true. Kai had never been in a daze before, even though he had multiple personalities. Edith was a little frustrated that when she needed Kai, he just walked away from her and Julie’s side.
“Can I ask you a favour, Seth?”
“What favour do you need?” Seth asked back.
“Can you investigate Kai for me? I have a bad feeling. Kai is weird, but he’s never been absent-minded before.”
“Did I understand you correctly?”
“Oh sorry. Alpha Seth, can you investigate what really happened to Kai?”
“Yes, I will, my dear Luna,” chuckled Seth.
“And give Julie to me; I can comfort her too.”
Seth opened his arms wide for Edith to hand Julie to him. Seth stroked Julie’s cheek and whispered, “Uncle Kai is buying a toy for you; if you stop crying, you can play with it after he gets home, okay?”
Unexpectedly, Seth managed to make Julie stop crying. The baby was now sticking her tiny fingers in Seth’s face, just as her father had done earlier.
“That’s right, Julie has a bond with me too,” Seth said proudly.
“I’m her mother; I’m so jealous!” grumbled Edith as she pursed her lips.
“Do you want me to persuade you too? We’ll do it in bed, baby.”
Edith widened her eyes. Edith wanted to hit Seth on the head for teasing her. Seth always spoke vulgar words, regardless of the situation.
“Are you ready?”
Eva suddenly walked into the room with a quill in her hand. Behind her, Will was carrying some antiques. Eva had a serious look on her face as she greeted Edith and Seth, who were chatting about Julie.
“Yeah, on cue, we’ll follow your instructions.”
“You can lay Julie on the bed, and please stand at a distance from her; she’ll definitely respond in a way you wouldn’t expect!”
Seth laid Julie on the bed, and then he and Edith took a few steps back from where they were. Eva placed some antique objects given to her by Will on the table right in front of the bed. Then she closed her eyes and began to cast a spell.
During the third spell, little Julie’s body was lifted into the air, and fine threads were released from her hands. The fine threads were directed at Seth, Edith, and Eva. Edith grasped Seth’s hand tightly. She didn’t want to be away from him.
Edith heard Eva speak in a language she didn’t know, then the movement of the threads stopped and slowly returned to their origin. Little Julie’s body stiffened in the air, and she gave off a bright light that seemed to dazzle them all.
“Will you please hold that table?” shouted Eva, pointing at the table in front of the bed.
Eva directed the light pool from little Julie’s body towards the table, but to no avail, as all the antique objects on the table were instantly shattered into pieces.
“Damn, it’s all useless! I need something that represents your family-something precious-an inheritance or something. Hurry up, I can’t hold it for too long!” screeched Eva, who was already very tense due to her tug of war with the light.
“My necklace.”
Edith immediately took off the necklace around her neck and gave it to Eva. The light held by Eva moved towards the necklace that was floating in the air.
In the next second, the light entered the pendant with a loud plop, and the necklace fell to the floor. Little Julie’s body was immediately caught by Seth.
Eva fell limply to the floor, but her body was quickly carried up by Will. Eva smiled weakly before closing her eyes.
“Eva…”
