[Mum, how did you know?]
Kai nodded in understanding. There was no way his mother would not know of his whereabouts, let alone that he was with Luna. He couldn’t wait too long to be sure of hiding Edith any longer.
[Alpha Seth is heading here to pick up Luna. You have to be ready; I don’t want to lose you again, Kai.] Emma said.
[I understand, mum. Maybe it’s time for them to finally reunite. I have one year to spend with her; that’s enough for me,] said Kai in a weak tone.
Kai turned his gaze towards the full moon, which seemed to be mocking his fate. He wondered why the Moon Goddess was always joking with his destiny. He felt his life was so miserable and that he was always experiencing bitterness. His existence seemed to be a mistake.
He could not possibly switch off his humanity, not while he was still by her side. But how long would it last? Kai himself didn’t know the answer for sure. Feeling disgusted with his own life was not the path he would take after he handed Edith over to the Alpha.
He still wanted to see his loved ones happy, even though he could only be around Edith. Kai will always take care of Edith because he believed that is the essence of his existence.
He walked back to the small house he built for Edith and her baby. For a year, living together with Edith brought its own happiness to his life, even though it would soon disappear. At least Kai had felt Edith, who always relied on him in any situation.
He had shifted back into human form and laid down on the sofa in the living room to relieve his tired thoughts. The fireplace burning nearby was unable to provide warmth for his soul, which was being hit by a blizzard called defeat.
Kai remembered the days when he fought very hard to bring back Edith’s life for two weeks before she was confirmed dead by Ashley. Without realizing it, Kai had tears running down his cheeks. He took a strong breath to muffle his sadness. Kai could only comfort himself by remembering their laughter together.
Until the sound of a door hitting the wall hard brought Kai’s reverie to a halt, and he turned his gaze to the doorway.
“Where’s Luna Edith?”
The loud voice swept the atmosphere in the room into tension. Kai straightened up and looked at the voicemaker.
“I thought the Alpha was coming,” said Kai, trying to remain calm.
“I’m here. You were waiting for me. Where’s Edith?” said Seth without wanting to have any further conversation.
“She’s sleeping in the room. I just wanted to inform you that Edith has”
Kai’s voice stopped as Seth quickly grabbed his neck. Seth tightened his fingers around Kai’s neck and lifted Kai to within inches of the floor.
“Please calm down, Seth. There’s… something… I need… to… explain… to you.” Kai stammered.
Seth tilted his head and grinned at Kai, who was trying to breathe with difficulty in the grip of his hand.
“You want to take my time?” Seth shouted.
“Edith has amnesia; she doesn’t remember you.”
Seth released his stranglehold instantly. He was so shocked to hear Kai’s statement about Edith’s true condition. Seth stepped back, and unexpectedly, Edith walked out of her room with a dazed face and narrowed eyes.
“Kai, what happened? Why is there a noise?
Edith widened her eyes. Her gaze collided with that of Seth, who was stunned to see her. The atmosphere became completely tense when everyone in the room fell silent and just looked at each other.
“You are that person.”
The sound of a crying baby broke the silence between them. Seth was even more startled by the sound and stared intently at Kai, whose face turned pale.
Edith turned around and entered a room, paying no attention to the people standing in the living room. Then Edith returned while carrying Juliette, whose cries Edith was trying to soothe.
“You all made my baby wake up. Who the hell are you?”
That’s what Seth felt when he saw Edith looking at him in a different way. The same gaze when Seth first experienced Edith’s rejection. Edith’s green eyes seemed to have hatred for him.
“Edith, I want…” Seth could not continue when his gaze fell on the baby Edith was holding.
Everything seemed confusing to Seth at the moment. What he saw in front of him-Edith, who was staring at him with the baby in her arms-made Seth both angry and helpless.
“Seth, there’s something I need to explain to you,” said Kai, who began to realize Seth was holding back the rage inside him.
“There’s nothing to explain, Kai. I don’t like him. Your name is Seth, right? I’m asking you to leave my house right now and take your people with you. We are getting disturbed with you all!”
Seth couldn’t help it. He shifted into his wolf form and grabbed Kai’s shirt with his jaws. Seth dragged Kai out of the house and ran away from it.

Seth shifted into human form and shouted at them. Kai pulled his face from her neck and stared at Seth, who was standing in front of him.
“Edith, please get a real mind.”
“No one can break a vampire’s compel, Seth. She only obeys my orders. This is one of my favorite vampire traits. Let’s hear what Edith has to say about you. Do you love Seth, dear?”
“No, I just love you, Kai. You never hurt me at all,” Edith replied.
“No! You were just used by him. He just wants your blood, Edith.”
“THAT’S NOT TRUE!” Edith looked sharply at Seth.
“You heard it yourself, didn’t you? He didn’t hear you at all. I’ve been trying to explain it to you, but you still won’t listen to me. You need to know, Alpha Seth. I’m starting to like your Edith-not just her blood but also her. The scent of her body is so arousing to my werewolf side. Ah, you must know that. I was going to give in to you, but it feels like I want to have her just like you. All of her!”
Kai embraced Edith’s body and brought her face closer to his. He kissed Edith, and Edith kissed him back. Seth, who saw the scene, became so angry. He changed his body back to his wolf form and growled loudly.
He ran towards both of them and attacked Kai by biting his shoulder. He pulled him as far away from Edith as possible. Seth slammed Kai’s body against a large rock on the other side of the cliff.
Seth walked slowly as he looked at Kai, who sat whimpering in pain. Seth had his fangs bared, ready to pounce on the wounded Kai before him. He felt he would win this time.
Seth ran towards Kai and jumped on his hind legs. His front legs were ready to land his final strike on Kai’s body. As Seth widened his jaws to bite his neck, unexpectedly, Edith landed her body on top of Kai, trying to protect him from Seth’s attack.
Seth’s fangs struck the side of her head. Fresh blood flowed out of the wide, open wound. Seth was so surprised by what Edith had done that it was beyond his expectations. He had seriously harmed Edith.
Seth saw her body fall to the ground, and…
It was exactly like his nightmare.
