“Is that true?”
Jadden widened his eyes when he heard Will’s words; even his mouth was wide open, as if Will had suffocated him with every word.
“When did I ever lie to you? Did biting Claire dull your sense of hearing? Hope must have howled that time.”
“How can a wolf be focused when marking, my friend, unless it’s focused on our mate?” Jadden said as he winked at the blonde woman who was cutting meat at three o’clock from Jadden.
“From what I’ve heard over there, Eva and Chris are planning something to give the French Alpha a hard time,” Will added.
“Seth is really lucky that you’re close to Eva, just like I thought you would be.”
Jadden put his arm around Will’s shoulders, who was shorter than him. Both of them were going to the Liverpool area to investigate Gloria’s presence there upon Seth’s orders.
“I still can’t figure out how Gloria could reappear. And what makes me even more suspicious is that her appearance is right when the pack is indicated to be ‘having problems’. But what makes me doubt this is that Gloria is just an ordinary human. I don’t think any of this is just a coincidence, Jadden.”
Will massaged his temples, while Jadden only smiled faintly. He still remembered when Seth was so devastated by Gloria’s leaving, because Jadden and Will were the saving gods for Seth.
“I don’t think Edith will keep quiet about this. She’s even more horrible than Seth; I’ve seen her make a woman slip on the pavement and hit her head straight on the pole until she bled with just one flick of the finger. Not only that, Liam once told me he had seen Edith’s face turn into a monster with teeth full of sharp fangs. How can such a beautiful woman have such a creepy face?” said Jadden.
“Eva’s just like that; they’re masters of magic, unlike us, who fight one-on-one duels to defeat our rivals.”
“So what do we do now, Will? I don’t want to be a wolf that suddenly yowls in pain while being tortured without touching Luna Edith!” said Jadden, who suddenly lowered the volume of his voice.
“Are you stupid or cowardly, Jadden? Seth won’t let that happen to us. He must have a means of controlling his Luna,” said Will as he smacked Jadden on the head.
Both of them were silent and lost in their own thoughts. Their conversation was overheard by Kai, who accidentally passed behind their bench.
“Are you talking about Edith? How rude! If I were you, I would never doubt Luna. You guys should feel lucky that Edith has compassion that’s far more noble than your preconceived notions.”
“We’re not talking to you!” said Will who was still showing his hatred for Kai.
“‘Calm down Will, don’t pay any attention! We were ordered by Seth not to touch him, but I’d love to pounce on his annoying face!” said Jadden as he grunted rudely afterwards.
Kai also didn’t care about Jadden and Will’s attitude towards him. His mind just wasn’t focused on their sarcasm. He kept thinking about Edith who had not been seen in the pack house or at school for two days.
He was still adapting to the pack members who mostly looked at him with scornful eyes. He used to suffer so much when the pack members expelled him, but now it was different. His soul can already accept all negative reactions about his existence.
But Kai still couldn’t ask the pack members anything about the daily life of the pack, not even about the Alpha or Luna. So he could only receive information from the pack members who happened to be talking when he passed them.
Kai turned around after walking away from Jadden and Will. He was defeated by his curiosity about Edith’s whereabouts.
“Where’s Edith?” Kai asked Jadden and Will.
“What’s your business?” said Will who replied with a question.
“I miss her,” Kai replied casually.
Will had straightened up and clenched his fists. His jaw had hardened, followed by a glare at Kai.
“I’m just kidding, why are you so angry? I want to exchange information with you guys. How about it? Are you interested?”
Jadden raised one eyebrow while Will had already seated himself back on the bench. They both exchanged glances afterwards, which ended with Jadden nodding.
“How?” asked Jadden in a normal, emotionless tone of voice.
“I’ll give Alpha valuable information if you tell me where Edith is.”
“Deal. What information do you have, hybrid?” was Jadden’s response to Kai’s words.
“When I was being satisfied by a bitch in one of the alleys in the city yesterday, I saw two vampires. I recognised one of them as an Elite Hunter; now tell me where Edith is.”
“Thanks for the information,” Jadden said without the burden of having to tell Kai about Edith.
“Fuck you! You won’t tell me where Edith is? Well, I happen to be thirsty, and I’m not afraid of Seth’s threats.
“I’m just kidding, why are you so angry?” Jadden teased with a grin.
Jadden turned Kai’s words around, but this didn’t bother Kai. Kai said, “Damn! I’m getting back at you with my teasing.”
“Alpha and Luna went on a staycation at Seth’s father’s cottege.”
Jadden looked at Kai, who still seemed to be digesting his words. He was actually curious about the hybrid figure in front of him. It was more the thought of the desire Kai had, because during Kai’s stay in the pack house, Jadden had never seen Kai have wolf lust.
“Hey you, why are you doing it with that bitch out there when the pack has so many attractive young she-wolves?” asked Jadden, who spontaneously got a glance from Will.
Kai laughed. He was very satisfied when he found Jadden, who was curious about him. Instead of admitting that he was curious, Jadden argued that it was his duty as a beta to ascertain werewolf activity in Red Crescent Moon.
Kai missed the days when he interacted with the warriors forty years ago. He also participated in gossiping, like nowadays. There were times Kai revealed his own secrets in front of his friends, which were replied to with light teasing until they laughed together.
Although this time was different from his position, which often argued with the Alpha, Kai could be relieved because Seth’s two friends still listened to his story. They responded to his words; they were also curious about him. Kai grinned slightly because he had made peace with his fate and he was no longer alone.
“I didn’t fuck the bitch; I’d say she just satisfied me, you know. I just didn’t want Edith to see the shit out of me.”
“Do you think Edith will turn her back on Seth? They’re destined to be together. We can’t defy fate, hybrid.” said Jadden.
“How pathetic!” added Will.
“We supernatural beings are freaks of nature. We’re not supposed to exist. Everything that has an oddity will have a loophole. For example, vampires live immortal lives but can’t walk during the day. Werewolves are very strong, but their temperament is very unstable. Witches can control all the elements in nature, but their souls are broken. However, the rulers of this realm are humans, creatures that don’t have any supernatural powers but have intelligent brains and more civilised souls. Humans are one of the loopholes for supernatural beings like us, and I firmly believe I will definitely have that fateful loophole. I am the ultimate oddity in this realm.”
Jadden and Will dropped their jaws at Kai’s description of the essence of the universe. They didn’t expect that the person they had been underestimating would have such logical thoughts for such an illogical thing.
“Hey, what’s wrong with you guys?”
