The Elite Hunter

“How did you know that Edith was kidnapped?”
Seth felt suspicious about Kai knowing where Edith was being kept. The problem was that the ones holding Edith were French vampires based on Jadden’s report to him. Those vampires also attacked Jen. They dared to take the risk of attacking a werewolf in Red Crescent Moon’s territory.
“I was walking out of school on my way home and I saw Edith being carried into a black van. I followed the van and arrived at the basement where Edith was being held. The people who kidnapped Edith were humans, there were three of them. After the vampires got Edith, the three humans left in their van. It seemed like the Elite Hunter paid them to kidnap Edith. They’re not daywalkers like me.”
Hearing his explanation at length, Seth could think that everything made sense. One thought that became a question in Seth’s mind was the Elite Hunter Kai was referring to earlier.
“From what I can deduce this is Mikael’s doing, the leader of the vampire clan and one of the oldest in Europe and they actually have the Elite Hunter, I had to switch off my humanity when I fought two of them a few decades ago. They are like killer vampires, they have movement speed, high damage and above average tracking skills like the wolf warriors.”
Kai tried to remember the time when he managed to escape from the pursuit of the French vampire Elite Hunter. He was lucky to be accompanied by Sophia at that time, otherwise he would have died and his strength as a vampire without a human side became collateral damage for the vampires who chased him.
“If they’re such good hunters, then why have you been able to escape them all this time?” Seth asked with a curious look on his face.
“I’ve always been on the move. After escaping from them, I joined the Rogue pack in Alaska to cover my tracks and returned to England about a year ago because I heard from one of the witches in Alaska that the last descendant of Veela was about to reach the age of maturity, namely your wife.”
“Do you still remember how many Elite Hunter they were?”
“It used to be about 12 vampires, maybe more now.”
“Look at the faces of you two. How can an Alpha get jealous over a meat ball, it’s ridiculous and you’re always getting on Seth’s nerves. Can’t you two come to terms?” Edith spluttered as she entered Seth’s study.
“It’s the full moon phase, it’s natural for werewolves to get out of control, baby. Although even without the full moon, I’d really like to gouge out his eyes so he doesn’t see you like this.”
Kai only smirked after a second ago he looked at Edith passionately as his dark black eyes turned yellow. The look on his face immediately changed when Seth pulled Edith onto his lap and kissed her ferociously in front of Kai.
“I’m thirsty, we’ll continue tomorrow Seth.” said Kai who immediately moved quickly out of the room without being seen.
“Don’t let me find human dead bodies in my territory, Kai!” shouted Seth.
“I don’t think so, it’s up to you then.” said Edith as she pulled her face away from Seth.
“Like I said, it’s the full moon phase, my passion is at its peak.”

Mikael sat in his workroom chair with ten vampires standing in front of him. He kneaded his temples as he felt giddy at the loss of his three Elite Hunters.
“How did Kai kill my three best Elite Hunters? Can anyone explain it to me?” asked Mikael.
All the vampires standing before him just bowed in silence as no one could answer the vampire clan leader’s question, but only one ventured to take a step forward and raised his head.
“Kai loves that veela My Lord. I thought we could use this to lure the two of them, but we’re in a bit of trouble because it’s possible that the werewolves in the whole area might be stepping up their guard.”
“Are you saying we should lure them out?” asked Mikael, raising one eyebrow.
“That’s right, My Lord. We need a witch to do the trickery.”
“Isn’t that too risky? I hate having to deal with witches, they always mess up in the end.”
“We should look for a witch who isn’t in favour of werewolves, considering their Alpha has always had good relations with witches for three generations.”
“I’ll consider your suggestion, Thierry. Has Marie-Louise prepared our dinner?”
“From what I heard when I came into this room, she has prepared a group of travellers.”
“Brillant!” Mikael grinned with flashing blood-coloured eyes.
Mikael should think carefully about his suggestion about witches. It had been ten years since they had to walk only at night since Kai had escaped from the castle. The suggestion was tempting, but witches were deceitful creatures. Mikael didn’t want to take the risk that they would be betrayed.

Chris and Eva entered a bar. Eva lifted her head to look at her ten o’clock. Chris nodded in understanding. Chris stepped up to approach the man who was talking to the two women sitting next to him.
“Excuse me, Lady. I need to speak to this gentleman.” said Chris with emphasis and a sharp look at the man.
The man scowled and instantly froze in place. Behind Chris, Eva was raising one hand in the air to block the man’s movement and she was using her other hand to charm the bar customers to sleep.
Eva rotated her hand 360 degrees and a second later a portal formed in front of them. Chris swiftly grabbed the man’s body and carried him into the portal with Eva in tow.
The portal opened in the living room of Eva’s house. With quick movements of her hands, Eva pulled out a chair and Chris sat the man on it. Eva tied the man’s hands and feet and made a circle around the chair so that the man could not leave.
Eva released the magic spell that made the man’s body immobile and Chris grabbed the man’s jaw until his head was raised towards her.
“Tell me where Ancel is?” asked Chris.
“He’s already… dead. Please don’t kill me.” the man begged Chris.
“Who sent you to kill me?”
The man seemed hesitant to answer Chris’ question. He just shook his head and pleaded with Chris not to kill him.
“I’m not going to get my hands dirty to kill a vampire, but sunlight will do, so I’ll give you some time to think and tell me who’s behind all this. From what I can tell it’s not Mikael’s doing, he wouldn’t be so reckless as to attack me, would he? Dawn will be here in three hours, make it count, because I’m not a generous werewolf or I might turn you in to Mikael by telling him that one of his Elite Hunter’s is a traitor. You take your pick!”
Chris grinned and turned round. He seated himself on the sofa not far from the room. The full moon phase made him slightly lose control of his emotions. He wanted to kill the vampire so badly. Several times he clenched his jaw just to quell the anger that had built up over what had happened to him.
“Calm down, I’ll get you a drink.”
Eva took a drink from the empty air in front of her. She snapped her fingers, a bottle of Cognac and two glasses were already sliding down slowly from the air to the table in front of them. Eva opened the bottle and poured into two glasses and gave one of the glasses to Chris.
“Thank you, Eva.”
Both of them took a sip of their drinks. Every sip of the drink made Chris calmer. His anger slowly subsided and was replaced with an intoxicating sensation that made him close his eyes for a moment.
“Silly man, he’s not used to being drunk but as soon as I offered him a drink he instantly fell asleep. You’ve been sleep deprived for a week now. Hopefully after that vampire talks, you’ll get some peace of mind. I feel sorry for you, Chris.”
