A Strange Scent

Book:The ExtraOrdinary Luna Published:2025-3-6

Edith was in the history section. Her hands were skimming through the rows of books stored neatly on the shelves. Edith was looking for books and articles about urban legends, myths, and other supernatural things.
Edith carried a stack of books in her hands. She stepped carefully towards the table as her vision was obscured by the books she was carrying. Arriving at the end of the section, Edith bumped into something hard in front of her.
The books she was carrying fell to the floor. Edith crouched down and looked at the messy books on the floor until she heard a familiar voice in her ears. It was like she had heard that voice before. Edith ascertained it by raising her head.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you coming. Wow, we meet again,” said a man.
“Kai Gregory? I should be the one apologising to you; I didn’t see the way.”
“It’s okay. We meet again; how are you?”
“Fine. What brings you to this school?”
“I just transferred this year. Nice to meet you, Edith; are we in the same grade?”
“This is my senior year and yours.”
“I guess I’m lucky; we’re the same. I finally know someone in this place; it’s been a week since I was alone and didn’t talk to anyone. Are we friends now?”
“Well, you have impressed me.”
Kai helped Edith pick up the remaining books on the floor. He offered to help Edith, who seemed to be having trouble carrying the books. Kai carried the books in his hand and put them on a nearby table.
Edith sighed and put the books on the table. She pulled out a chair to sit on, followed by Kai, who did the same. Kai took a position opposite Edith so that he could look at the girl clearly.
Kai smiled. Somehow, Edith felt something from the smile she saw. Edith coughed up a mysterious and friendly impression at the same time when Kai smiled at her.
“So, what information will you be looking for in these books?”
“I need information about magic and Veela.”
Kai picked up one of the books that contained Slavic folklore. He read it for a few minutes and pointed out the description of the mythical creatures in Slavic folklore.
“Edith, I found this information,” Kai said, pointing to the book page he had just read.
Both of them were in the library all break time. Edith managed to gather information and note some important things in her journal. She would read it later at home. Now she had to go back to class.
It was late afternoon when Edith came out of the front hall of her school. In the distance, she saw Seth leaning against the car door, watching her.
“Edith, wait!”
Edith turned around and looked for the person who had called out to her. The exits were crowded with students walking out of the school to go home like her. Edith waited until it was quiet and saw Kai half-running towards her.
“Going home together?” asked Kai.
“Sorry, Kai, I’m going home with a friend. Maybe next time, okay?”
“Okay, bye, Edith.”
Edith waved her hand and walked away from Kai, who was still frozen in place. His eyes went to Seth, who was also staring at him from a distance. They exchanged glances, and tension was created for a few seconds until Edith arrived in front of Seth.
“Is he your friend?” asked Seth in a flat tone.
“Yes. Kai is my next-door neighbour’s grandson. He also moved this week.”
“I sense something strange about him.”
“I think he’s a nice and friendly person. He helped me in the library earlier.”
“Ah, I don’t think you’re that naive, are you?” Seth’s tone began to rise.
Edith felt uncomfortable with the conversation between them. Seth didn’t even look at her as he spoke, his gaze fixed on Kai.
“Seth, I’m tired. Can we go home now?”
“You better stay away from him.”
“We’ll see.”
Their conversation ended as they got into the car. Arriving at the pack house, they were still silent and walked in different directions. Edith went into the room to meet Julian, while Seth was still walking in the corridor that led to the main room for the high ranks.
Seth threw his car keys onto the sofa at the side of the room that was against the wall. His heart was burning right now. His body felt hot. Seth held his throbbing temple and massaged it to ease the pain.
Seth saw Jadden enter the room, still with the bag on his back. He made a puzzled face when he saw Seth, who looked anxious.
“Jed said you were looking for me. What’s wrong?” I asked Jadden once he arrived in front of Seth.
“Do you know the new transfer student?”
“Yeah, I saw him walking to the library earlier. What’s wrong with him?”
“I realise there’s something strange about him, and he’s close to Edith. I want you to ask one of the members to keep an eye on him. His body scent is very strange for a werewolf, and I don’t want Edith to get close to him,” said Seth as he held back anger.
“Have you discussed this with Edith? I think she needs to know.”
“I can’t.”
“Why not? Do you have any shame?”
“It’s not that. Look, I had a nightmare about a vampire named Kai. In my dream, he kidnapped Edith and hypnotised her. When I fought with him, I accidentally attacked Edith and killed her. I don’t know if that transfer student named Kai is the same person in my dream or not. You know, vampires can’t go to Abberforth, and that transfer student must be a werewolf. It’s very frustrating because I can’t see his face clearly.”
“I can’t imagine your dream, Seth. You killed your own Luna? Even if it was just a dream, it was horrible.”
“I hope it was just a bad dream. Since then, I’ve kept my distance from Edith as much as possible. I’m incapable of even having a dream.”
Seth wanted to release his anger. Seeing Edith get along with that man successfully made Seth jealous. Coupled with his dream about Edith, Seth became annoyed with himself.
“Now I understand your position. Alright, I’ll ask Liam to keep an eye on the transfer student.”
“Thank you, Jadden.”

Kai looked at Seth, who was staring at him sharply. He knew that Seth was the wolf who fought with him at the edge of the forest at that time. He grinned at Seth, then turned around.
In less than half an hour, Kai had arrived at Old Gregory’s house. He stepped into the room and approached the mirror. He removed the contact lenses from his eyes, and the pair of blood-red-coloured beads looked even more intense than before.
Kai was thirsty. He had to find human blood to quench his thirst. He could not linger in this house any longer. Kai had to find a new place to stay to get closer to Edith.
At this time, Kai could see that the time on the clock on the wall was eleven o’clock at night. He decided to look for his victim at a bar not far from the city limits. By relying on his handsome and dashing appearance, it was not difficult for Kai to get a woman as his victim. He really wanted a woman tonight.
“Martini, please,” pleaded Kai to the male bartender behind the counter.
The bartender handed Kai’s order in front of him. Kai grabbed the glass and took a slow sip. He wanted to savour every second of this night.
“I see you’ve been alone for a while,” said a woman wearing a red mini dress that matched the colour of her hair.
Kai turned his gaze towards the woman. He smiled and said, “Now I’m not.”
The woman laughed and sat right next to Kai. She ordered the same drink that Kai ordered from the bartender and looked at Kai afterwards.
“I’m Heidi, by the way.”
“Kai Henderson. What a pretty name,” greeted Kai with a faint grin.
“Thank you. So tell me, is this about a woman?”
Kai looked at the woman. Heidi was quite an attractive woman; even all her sensual gestures suggested that she was a woman who could satisfy him tonight. But Kai only heard the woman’s heartbeat, which made him tempted to taste her blood.

Kai’s hand caressed her skin, his finger wrapping around the straps of her dress. Kai pressed his lips against her, and Heidi lustfully reacted to his, their chests touching before he backs up slightly, moving his hands down to her hips, gently pulling her dress off.
Heidi’s hands tugged at the bottom of his t-shirt as he pulled it off. Then Kai effortlessly pulled Heidi towards him.
Within seconds, they were skin on skin, their hands, tongues, and mouths frantically moving against one another. He landed his fangs on Heidi’s neck, and instantly she groaned in pain.
Kai retracted his fangs. The influence of alcohol made Heidi not even realise that Kai had just sucked some of her blood. Her body was so enveloped in arousal that her pain turned into pleasure.
