I could see the pique of her curiosity. Every question she asked, I have answers but I couldn’t disclose anything because it wasn’t in my place to tell her.
Watching her struggle wasn’t easy for me. Bella was like a daughter to me. She was the one who elevated Roman from his darkness and I loved her.
Lying to her wasn’t what I intended but Roman didn’t want her knowing everything.
Initially, he was worried that she would leave him once she found out about her demon part, but now the alpha was scared she would put herself in danger if she found out the pack was going on a battle with the alpha king for her sake.
Bella was a sweet girl, but she wasn’t fortunate enough. Life as a golden wolf was something else; she was practically the most powerful wolf alive.

As of now, I wasn’t sure if she was safe anymore because Roman had enemies everywhere. The demon kingdom could be a safe place if lords like Callicious didn’t exist.
Bella could be in great danger if Callicious ever got to find out what she was. Callicious was someone I knew like the back of my palm because we were once in love; he was my soul partner but that was until he rejected our fate together.
His hunger for power didn’t allow him to have a taste of love and a fulfilled life. He chose to marry from one of the seven wealthiest families in the demon world, hoping to increase his chances of being the next lord.
He managed to give Lord Sage three grandsons, yet he still couldn’t compete with Morgan even after her death.

When Sage found out Morgan had a son with alpha Stephen, he declared the little hybrid as his successor. He made the demon elders swear an oath to bow to him once he was no more.
Callicious, who was the first descendant only don of Lord Sage, left the kingdom after this proclamation, and after twenty-six years, he has returned.
” Miss Madeline, Lord Callicious wants to have a word with you,” Sophia informed me and I nodded, carefully letting Bella’s feet on the bed.
She was already falling asleep, and I was glad I was able to help her relax.
I wiped a tear from my eyes as I watched her beautiful sleeping face.

She would have been happy to see her son bound to such a beautiful girl. She was fragile but fierce when her wrong bottoms were pressed.
” Take care of her, no one is allowed to enter her room,” I warned Sophia.
I specifically chose Sophia to be Bella’s handmaid because she was capable, considering her background as the granddaughter of the demon seer.
I knock on Callicious’s door before stepping in. ” After twenty-six years, you are still the same, Madeline.”
” What do you want?” I cut through the chains because I didn’t have the time to waste around him. ” Are you still angry with me, Madeline? ” He stepped forward and I scoffed. ” I have other pressing matters to attend to if you will excuse me.” I was about to leave when he grabbed my wrist.
Our eyes met for a few seconds before I pulled away from him. He may have gone for years, but I saw nothing change in him. ” Your hair,” he was about to grab a strand when I stepped back.” If you don’t have anything to say to me, I will take my leave.” His demeanor suddenly changed.
He was the same as before. The power-hungry demon who was willing to do anything to attain power. Why was he back anyway?
Did he come to finish what he started?
It better not be what I was thinking.
” Why is she here?”
” Is it wrong for the next queen of the demon kingdom to visit her territory?” A low disapproving growl slipped out of his throat but he didn’t lose it like he always did.
I could see he had finally learned something good.
” The next queen?” He smelled my hair and then placed a kiss on my neck.” You are the rightful owner of the title, my dear Madeline.” I frowned.
The mark that fate placed on me as his soul partner wasn’t touched because I refused to choose another.
I rejected many offers, and then when Roman was born, I didn’t think I had any more reason to marry.
Morgan placed him in my arms and Called him out Son. She gave me the chance to be a mother without ever getting pregnant.
She gave me the responsibility of a mother.
I became a mother and was able to experience motherhood thanks to Morgan, my blossom friend.
Not only did she trust me with her secrets but also with her precious son.
” What do you mean, Callicious?”
” You are my soul mate and I’m the only son of my father. Who do you think is entitled to be the queen of the demon kingdom between you and that little girl?” did he just call me his soul mate?
” Have you forgotten you chose her over me?” My eyes stick to the portrait on the wall.
The portrait of his wife and the mother of his three sons.
He left me because he thought she could help him become who he wanted.
” I know I have wronged you in the past, Madeline. I’m sorry, let’s start over. I want us to start everything again.” I would be a fool to trust him. Once a greedy man always a greedy man.
“Whether I have forgiven you or not, don’t you ever touch the girl?”
” Are you going to let her have what should be yours?” I was about to pull the door open when he spoke. ” in case you have forgotten, I was never meant to be anything aside from being Morgan’s best friend.” I pulled the door open and shut it behind me.
I let out a sigh as I strode down the hallway towards the sacred temple.
” Miss Madeline.” Two servants who bumped into me greeted me. Thanks to Morgan, I was never reduced to nothing after I was rejected by Callicious.
I was bound to live a miserable life after that day but Morgan didn’t leave my side. She didn’t leave me alone and even trusted me with her blood, her only son.
Roman was my son too!
I clapped my hands together and shut my eyes as I stepped into the sacred temple. Bella’s fate was still unseen, it was the usual dark smoke.
Her fate was uncertain because of her powerful wolf. This wasn’t a good sign because it seemed she was the maker and the writer of her fate.
She was born with such a dangerous task. Writing your fate could be as dangerous as fighting the entire world and its darkness.
It is such an impossible task; no one has ever succeeded in writing their own destiny. Writing your own destiny was complicated; anything could go wrong, and the wrong move was the end.
” Miss Madeline, your phone has been ringing nonstop.” One of the servants came up to me, I flipped my eyes open after bringing my prayers to an end.
” You can leave.” The servant bowed before walking away. ” How is Bella?” His first request didn’t surprise me but instead made me smile.
Fate is indeed a blessing when you are accepted by the person you care about most. I just hope history does not repeat itself.
” I just gave her a foot massage, she is resting.” I told him and I heard him sigh.” When are you planning to tell her the truth?”
The line went silent for a while.” She is carrying my pup, telling her might never be an option.”
“Do you plan to keep it from her forever?” I understood him, both his concerns and his fears but keeping it from her was too much.” Roman, I don’t support you on this.”
” I know.” He was in a tough spot, but Bella deserved to know what was happening.” She will find out and if she does, you know what will happen.”
” I don’t want Kane going close to her.” I could feel the possessiveness in his voice.” Bella is a smart girl; Kane should be the least of your worries.” I would take care of her no matter what.
” What about her pregnancy, when do you plan to tell her?” he couldn’t possibly keep it from her for long because it would start to show soon.
