ANNABELLA’S POV
The three empty spots at the breakfast table were soon filled by two, Caleb and Sean.
Sean, who happened to be the first grandson of Sage and was barely around, sat next to me while Caleb, who seemed a little distant from everyone except his fiance, sat next to her.
I learned her name was Dalia, and the two looked good together even though Caleb barely looked at her.
She has long blue hair and almost ten piercings on both ears and nose piercings, which I have seen a lot around here. Demons surely have a way of dressing and appearing beautiful. I never knew tongue piercing was a big deal until I got here, a lot of them have this piercing
And while others appeared beautiful, others too appeared a little bit weird.” How did it go?” Sage lifted his head.” All good; everything has been taken care of, but we can’t let our guard down.” Sean explained and he nodded, hemming at the end.
The servants came forward to serve the food, and soon, the room went quiet. Everyone was concentrated on their food, the air surrounding the room was a bit thick, and I didn’t need to say why.
Lord Callicious has proven all doubt to be correct; the man has something hidden under his sleeves, which I wasn’t sure what it could be.
According to Madeline, he left the territory a long time ago so why was he suddenly back? What could be his plan, and what plan was he talking about with Kane, and how did he plan to use me?
I had a lot of questions going on in my mind and from all indications, lord Callicious wasn’t fun of me.
Was I in danger?
I didn’t trust him one bit. All I knew was he might be planning something bigger and against his family.
” So when are we seeing alpha Roman?” Callicious broke the silence in the room, and I fell out of my thoughts. Feeling his intense gaze on me, I turned my head up, and just like a thunder strike, I met his malicious eyes.” What?” My gaze went to Sage, who gave me a little smile. Were they talking about something important?
” I understand you don’t want to be here, but don’t stress yourself too much,” Callicious said, making me feel speechless.
I bit on my bottom lip; he wasn’t wrong, but how should I admit to that when everyone, including Sage, was staring at me as if waiting to hear it from the horse’s mouth? ” I love it here.” I lied.
” Why don’t you tell us something about you and Roman, maybe how you met? ” Callicious didn’t seem ready to let me be. Which makes me wonder what his agenda was.
Was he trying to make me look bad in Sage’s eyes? I wasn’t sure about his plan yet, but I could feel he was up to something.” I can’t tell what he looks like now.” his eyes slightly shifted from me to the white plate in front of him.
” That is not why we are here, Callicious.” Sage scolded.
The room went still again but Callicious wouldn’t stop staring. I would constantly feel his gaze burning on my side; I tried my best to stay unnoticed.
I stayed out of every conversation that popped up between the families. I noticed they were talking about a traitor that had mounted among them, but it seemed they were yet to find out who he was.
” What do you think, Bella?” Lord Callicious suddenly called my name and I stared up with a confused glare. Everyone at the table seemed to turn their gaze to me. ” What punishment will you give to a traitor? We all know traitors aren’t supposed to be entertained.” He added and I swallowed the food in my mouth. What was he up to this time?
Was this part of their plan too?
” Traitors are punished with death.” I let it out in one goal.
” I believe your judgment.” Sage said with a proud smile.” I will put that in mind.” I met Callicious malicious grayish eyes.” Do you know something? The demon kingdom hasn’t encountered traitors over the years; I wonder what went wrong.” What was he trying to imply?
Was he suspecting me?
” Just like you said, death is the only way out.” I felt like those words were directed at me; his eyes stared into mine. Eve growled in my head.
” I feel like you spoke my mind,” Dalia said, and my gaze shifted from her to Caleb, who was staring at me with those cold eyes.
” Thank you.”
I let out a sigh as soon as I got into my room. Breakfast was far from the usual as if having breakfast with demons wasn’t enough. Now I had to deal with lord Callicious and his strange remarks.
What a freak.
Why did he hate Roman so much? Even a blind person would notice why he treats me the way he does.
” Lady Bella.” The door swung open, and Sophia walked in with her head down.” Lady Bella, I’m sorry I left you all alone last night; I’m sorry I didn’t mean to leave you alone. I just…..”
” Sophia…” I cut her off, not interested in hearing her series of explanations. I was already in no good mood and whatever she did with her time last night wasn’t my problem.
” Can you not explain anything to me?” my voice was low and pleading. I was already feeling a bit uneasy aside from the mood swift.” Okay, Lady Bella.” I sighed.
” Can you call me Bella?” She raised her head to look at me as if I just asked her to do something sinister.” But ..”
” Let’s go for a walk.” I walked past her to the door.
” Where do you want to go?” Sophia asked.
” Anywhere.”
I wasn’t sure where I wanted to be but anywhere would be okay as long as I was out of my room.
” Will it be okay if I walk you around the kingdom, I’m sure you have not been to many places.” She suggested as if there was anything to see.
” Who is he?” I felt the uneasiness coming from her. I sensed her movement paused and I turned around to look at her.” Its okay if you don’t want to talk about it.” I resumed walking and I heard her footsteps behind me.
I felt a bit released the moment I stepped my feet into the huge luxurious garden that sat a bit far from everyone. ” This part of the house is long dejected,” Sophia explained, and I believed her because aside from the scent of the flowers and the insects, there was no other scent in the air.
It was a nice place, especially with the blooming flowers and the tiny butterflies feeding on the flower fragrance.
” He wanted me to be his chosen mate.” Sophia spoke, and I raised a brow, walking amidst the flowers.” James and I have been friends for the longest of time.” She added.
” What did you tell him?” I didn’t miss the excitement in her voice when she spoke about him.” Did you accept it?” I felt a bit lighter compared to before.
The fresh smell of flowers in the air and the presence of butterflies and other insects flying around and making the place look more lively than it already was.
” I’m still thinking about it.” I raised a brow because, from the sound of her voice, she seemed to know what to do, and I didn’t want to believe she was confused.
As long as he was good to her, I doubt anything was stopping them. ” I’m sure you will make a great couple.” I turned my head and smiled at her before turning back.
I didn’t know how long we spent in the garden; our next destination was uncertain until I found myself in a restaurant among a number of demons.
The restaurant wasn’t all shabby, but it was simple; a few of the tables were occupied, and the few seconds around didn’t let pass without a glare.
Sophia made an order, and the food that was brought to the table seemed to upset my stomach, so I didn’t touch it and instead went to the bathroom.
By the time I returned, I saw Sophia with the familiar man; our eyes had met for a short while before he walked away.
” Are you okay Lady Bella?”
” Are you done here?” I felt she only brought me here because she wanted to see him.
I waited for her for a few more minutes to say goodbye to him which took him about ten minutes to be done.
We left from there and finally back to my room again. ” Can you get me something for a headache?” I requested.
The door swung open after a minute or two and the one that strode in wasn’t Sophia but Madeline.
” Lie down and I will help you massage your feet.”
” You don’t have to do that.”
” It’s my job to take care of you, dear. Are you still mad ate?.” Staring at her face, I didn’t have a choice other than to shake my head.
” I understand your loyalty is with Roman.” I buy on my bottom lip.
” Can I ask you something?”
” Of course you can, I hope you are okay?” I nodded my head.” What is it between Roman and lord Callicious?” I felt his hand stop massaging my feet.
” What did he do?” Madeline seemed angry.” I just find his remarks towards me weird.” I told her the truth.
” All you have to know is he will do anything to hurt Roman.”
” Why?” I sat up on the bed, curious to know more, but the sound of the door grabbed my attention, and when I turned my head, the familiar face came into view.
” Madeline,” he called and I turned to lol at her, my eyes narrowed.
