Godiva PoV.
“What is your reason, Trisha?”
I looked deep into her eyes. I sympathized she had remained with me until this moment. Her loyalty was unwavering despite the sadness on Trisha’s face I couldn’t understand the reason behind.
I sipped a warm latte at a cafe that I had never visited before. The dim light seemed to accompany us on our escape. There was only one waiter who was mopping the floor this morning.
Trisha only drank mineral water, and I ordered lasagna to replenish her energy. I thought it would keep her energized after our run out of Burze town. We got extra fries from the cafe, which I only ate because Trisha refused the food.
“I will always serve and accompany you, Luna Godiva.” That was the only answer I ever heard from her.
I moistened my throat, then spoke, “Ah, about that-let’s compromise, not to mention my status after this. I’m not Moonpack Luna anymore. You call me by my name, and you’re my friend now-especially in a public place like this. Understood?”
My voice was very low so that no one else would hear our conversation. The mopping waiter glanced at us several times. When our eyes met, he averted his gaze.
My appearance was a bit disheveled, as I was only wearing a green and white striped T-shirt and shorts that were too big in the waist. Several times I had to hold them up to keep them from slipping off my waist when I stood up. I got it from the clothesline of residing the shabby apartment we passed in the early hours of the morning.
I also gave Trisha a human outfit as a simple red dress with a maroon cardigan. I also took the sneakers that were perched as if the owner didn’t care about them in the window before we got to this cafe. Other than that, our appearance remained as normal as an ordinary human.
The pain in my stomach had disappeared because of the effect of the medicine given by the hospital. I was free to walk anywhere now. As I rubbed my stomach, I felt relieved with this fetus that could survive.
My blessing gift.
All I know is that pregnant women should have a clear mind and be free from all problems. I tried not to think about their father. My hatred for Pollux has gotten to where I shouldn’t care about him anymore. Although I had no ill feelings towards Castor, I had to distance myself from their lives since they were intertwined.
Secluding myself outside the city of Burze was enough to go undetected by them. They are both powerful Alphas; I needed to erase my tracks quickly and neatly in order to survive without them. With the connections they had, I had to have a new identity for the future.
“Excuse me, miss. May I make your acquaintance?”
The voice broke my reverie. The waiter from earlier stood at the edge of my desk as he extended his hand towards me. Hesitantly and glancing at Trisha, I didn’t take the man’s hand yet.
“Uhm, sorry, I’m reluctant to shake your hand. My name is Megan… Megan Rivers.” I smiled at the waiter.
“Okay, my name is Landon Myers. Can I get you another latte or another lasagna for your friend?”
“Yes, with pleasure. Thank you, Landon.”
He smiled and walked away from our table towards the kitchen. I chuckle softly in response to his hospitality. When my heart is rumbling and covered in clouds, events like this make me grateful that I still have to live life.
Trisha and I continued talking to determine our destination. There wasn’t a single clue in my mind to go somewhere in particular because I’d never really paid much attention to areas outside of Burze city. This was my first time out of the city.
My first plan was probably to find a decent place for us to stay. After we asked Landon about the closest jewelry store to the cafe in town, we visited the jewelry store to sell the earrings, necklace, and ring that were still on me. The money I made from selling the jewelry, which I could estimate surprised me was enough to survive for a few months.
“You know, starting tomorrow, I’m going to look for a job. I need money for my maternity expenses. I hope I can get it quickly, while my belly isn’t too big.” I pointed at my belly.
“Let me do the work, Luna. It’s my duty to serve you.”
“I can’t keep not doing this and that, Trisha. I’ve worked before, and if I have to do it again now, it won’t be a problem for me. Please understand my situation. We are on the run; I cannot use you all the time.”
“Yes, Godiva.” Trisha’s call for me changed as soon as a middle-aged woman passed by us.
Trisha was always quick to respond, and I was lucky to be accompanied by her. It wasn’t until the woman disappeared that she chuckled, displaying her neat teeth. I figured she’d be pretty if she smiled more often.
I searched for advertisements for apartment rentals by walking to the park. I looked at the paper advertisements posted on the bulletin board and found a number to call. Just as I was about to activate my cell phone, I reminded myself that both my husbands could track us.
I dropped it and decided to call a payphone instead. I coincidentally saw a phone box before turning into this park. I memorized the number I read and left the bulletin board.
“We have to find an apartment first. After we find one, we’ll think about jobs and rest. I’d love to take a shower. Aren’t you feeling hot?”
“It’s really hot today, after the heavy rain last night.” Trisha backed up my words by waving her hand at my neck.
“Godiva Fletcher?”
Automatically, I stopped walking to acknowledge the owner of the voice calling out to me. I hesitated whether to turn around and respond to him or to dodge him at once. Before I could decide, he had already caught up with me.
“We meet again. How fortunate.”
“Oh, hello, Declan.” I didn’t know how to respond until my hands were linked behind my waist.
“What’s wrong with you? You look a little pale. Are you sick?”
“Oh, no. I’m just tired and hot. I was just about to sit down.” I pointed to a long bench 5 feet away from me.
“Let’s sit down then.”
I looked over at Trisha with the intention of asking her for help, but she didn’t seem to understand my code. I gave up and sat on the bench I’d indicated earlier with Declan. I lowered my head because I didn’t know how to act in front of him.
“Is she your friend?”
“You mean, Tris… Lolly. Yeah, she’s my friend,” I answered quickly.
“What are you doing around here?”
“I’m looking for a place to stay. We were just going to Sapphire Street.”
There was silence for a moment until Declan finally spoke up, “Uhm, how about you stay in one of my apartments? I haven’t thanked you for saving my daughter the other day. I still have one vacant unit in Zarora. You can use it.”
“Oh, no, Declan. We’ve already found a place to live. After this, I’ll contact the tenant.” I had to decline because I didn’t want to be a burden to anyone else.
“Are you avoiding me on purpose? You always refuse when I want to return the favor, and yesterday you suddenly went offline while we were still chatting.”
