“I’d like to meet Caylee Simpson.”
I saw a woman with straw-blonde hair and enormous eyes standing in front of me. Her eyes looked up at me, then she moved down to the toe of my shoe. One hand clutched a cigarette, and she puffed the smoke into the air.
“Caylee is me. Is there anything you need from me, sir?”
“I am Pollux Melucci, husband of your niece Godiva Fletcher.”
Instantaneously, his facial expression changed. Earlier, I saw she made a sour face to greet me, but after I introduced myself, this woman widened her eyes. She smoothed her hair and her shabby-looking clothes. She extended her hand to shake mine.
I ignored her greeting. I was too lazy to meet her aunt after I noticed her dealing with Godiva. If Godiva had not told me not to hurt them, I might have burned down their house and left them living on the streets.
I utilized her cousin and a trial serum with stimulant properties to teach her a lesson. I thought that was enough to prove that he was just useless human trash. After Pollux recounted the circumstances under which Godiva’s cousin seduced him, the idea came to him to test it on humans directly.
“Please come in. Should I call you by name only?” Caylee’s words were really sycophantic.
“No,” I replied simply as I walked into the house.
For Moon Goddess’s sake, I really hated this stuffy house. I saw so much furniture that wasn’t organized properly. The air circulation was poor, and it was so dirty.
I heard a voice from inside the house. I could tell it was Godiva’s cousin’s voice. A few seconds later, the woman showed up with smudged black makeup and disheveled hair. We looked at each other, and her facial expression instantly changed drastically.
“Mr. Melucci, you’re here.”
Kayleigh dropped the bread in her hand on the floor. She leaned closer to her mother. Her body language screamed discomfort and unease in my presence.
“Yes. I’m going to cut this short. I would like to know who Godiva’s biological parents are.”
“How about you have a seat and we can talk more quietly?” Caylee pointed to the sofa with the foam already sticking out in places.
“Absolutely not. Save your hospitality for someone else. I just want answers to my questions. Tell me the truth!”
“Well, Mr. Melucci. My sister, Sharon, adopted Godiva from an orphanage in a small town in Bliegro. They adopted Godiva when she was 5 months old. They also searched for Godiva’s biological parents, but no trace was found other than the silver silk blanket that was in her baby basket back then. The orphanage might still have it. Sharon told me that once. I brought Godiva into my home out of obligation to my brother-in-law after her parents died. Did Godiva cause any trouble?”
“No, she didn’t. She is better off because you kicked her out of your house. Are there any of Godiva’s valuables still left here?”
“Nothing. If there were, I would have sold them already,” Caylee said quickly.
“Alright, my business here is done.”
“That’s it? You married my niece without any money to give to the family that raised her.” Caylee’s voice rose in tone.
I was just about to get up from the sofa, but my movement was halted. I stared intently at the woman, and for Godiva’s sake, I took out my cell phone from my coat pocket. I typed a message to Alvise to transfer the 50 million Vora to this damned family.
I showed Caylee the message on my phone screen. A smile immediately spread across her lips as she repeatedly thanked me. I turned my gaze to Kayleigh, who dropped her jaw as she saw the amounts on my phone screen.
“Don’t you dare interfere with Godiva again! Godiva’s relationship with you starts to break right now. If you are still bothering her, then this daughter of yours must already know that I am capable of doing anything to protect Godiva.” I said it firmly while pointing at Kayleigh.
“We promise, she can start her new life with you without looking back.”
Amidst the cheers of the both of them, I stepped out of the house. If they broke their promise, then I would send their bodies to the depths of the sea. The outcome of my search at least gave me some peace of mind. I only had to visit the orphanage in Bliegro, a small town in Fliuce country, 20 miles north of Burze.
I arrived at the mansion just in time for dinner. When I went into Godiva’s room, I couldn’t find her. I used my sense of smell and found Godiva in Pollux’s room.
Instantaneously, my heart was beating wildly. In my mind’s eye, I saw the image of Godiva bare, without a single thread, with sweat soaking her skin. I wanted to immediately join Pollux, so I did it again.
“Luna Godiva…” I paused for a moment, then continued, “What are you two doing?”
I saw Godiva laughing with Pollux. In her hand was a digital camera that was on. She pointed the camera screen at me as soon as I saw it.
“I was looking at the video of you guys performing at school. You acted as a dwarf, even though you were the biggest among the others. You rolled over to entertain the princess and got your foot caught in her skirt. It’s really funny.”
I saw tears welling up in her eyes. She laughed incessantly while Pollux turned to look at me. I growled softly at Pollux for having the nerve to show Godiva that ridiculous video.
“I told her not to turn it on, Cas. Don’t blame me. Hey, sweet pea. Tell her that you were the one who insisted on forcing me.”
“Alpha Pollux, right. I was the one who forced him to show it to me. I thought you always looked stunning, but it turns out you can do some silly things too.”
“Give me that camera!”
I didn’t really mean it. After all, Godiva had seen the disaster too. I just wanted to teach her a lesson for daring to laugh at me.
I reached out my hand to take the object from her, but to no avail. Godiva quickly dodged by bending down and barging past beside me. I took a deep breath and began to make this game of chase more exciting.
I chased after Godiva, who was taking cover behind Pollux’s body, and I chuckled softly. Unable to reach Godiva, I pushed Pollux’s body aside to get out of my way. I lunged at Godiva like a wolf pouncing on its prey. We fell together onto the bed, with my hand managing to grab the camera from Godiva’s hand.
“Gotcha!”
“Castor wants to catch you, not the camera. I’d better get going. Enjoy your night.”
My position on top of Godiva made our faces only a few inches apart. I was so close that I could smell the soothing scent of chamomile. Pollux, with his damn mouth, made me unable to hide my feelings anymore.
“I can feel your heart beating, Alpha Castor. I love the sound… thump-thump.”
