Pollux PoV.
“I thought I had lost you, Godiva.”
I immediately embraced Godiva’s body tightly. She opened her eyes after a week of unconsciousness. Castor and I were so worried about our mate.
I had such a bad thought that I would lose my mate again. All day and all night, for a whole week, I looked after Godiva until Castor had to depart to continue managing the Melucci family business in the human world. He was very understanding of my caring so much for Godiva and entrusted Godiva to my care.
After we learned the truth about Godiva, We both tightened security at Burze. The arrival of the Sanguine Shadows vampires disturbed me after Godiva’s transition.
“Where is Alpha Castor?” Godiva’s voice sounded weak.
“He is looking after our business in Wirie.” If there is anything you need, let me know.”
“I want a drink.”
I got Godiva a glass of water. I poured three glasses of water for Godiva, who still appeared pale. She gave me the last empty glass, and I put it back on the nightstand.
I helped add a pillow to prop up her head and made Godiva half-sit on the bed. She threw a smile at me after I stared at her silently.
“I feel better already, Alpha Pollux. How long have I been unconscious?” Her voice still sounded weak and hoarse.
“One week. You kept slurring and growling. It was frustrating for both of us.”
“Did I really do that?”
“Yes. Look, Godiva, I don’t think I’m the right person to tell you everything. Let’s hold off until Castor arrives and clarifies what happened to you. I can’t help but let my fear of losing you consume me.”
After I said all that, Godiva fell silent. She leaned back against the pillow and daydreamed. I imagined Godiva growling, just like we do when we’re angry.
To give Godiva some comfort, I called Trisha to help Godiva change her sweat-soaked clothes. Godiva agreed to do so after I offered her some food that she might like. She asked Trisha to make her some red bean porridge.
After Trisha returned with a bowl of red bean porridge, I saw Godiva’s face light up at the sight of the soft, red-colored food. I observed her repeatedly spooning food from the bowl into her mouth. There was a certain pleasure I felt watching her movements.
But that didn’t last long, as Godiva regurgitated the food. Luckily, my hand moved quickly to retrieve the empty container of compressed water. I helped hold her elongated silver hair as she looked down into the container.
“Why can’t I eat it, Alpha?”
“I don’t know,” I answered shortly.
I really had no idea. It seems that the effect can be attributed to the transition, but this is just my assumption. She also grabbed some of her hair and paused as she looked at her hair, which changed color from brown to silver.
“My hair… why is it like this?”
I helped Godiva get off the bed. She walked towards the mirror and saw her own significantly changed appearance. Godiva seemed to be a new woman with long silver hair and a more curvy body.
I stood behind her and silently admired her current visual appearance. If only Godiva had fully recovered, maybe I would have confined her to the bed. I would never tire of fantasizing about her.
I approached Godiva and touched both her shoulders. Right now, I am only limited to accompanying her to recuperate. Castor told me that before he left for Wirie.
“Neither of us knows for sure what happened to you. One thing is for sure: you are not as ordinary as you think you are.”
I spoke as calmly as I could so that Godiva would not freak out. Back when I found out the truth that we were werewolves, I shut myself in my room for three days without eating or drinking. Until dad had to break down my bedroom door and drag myself to the park in his wolf form.
When I thought about it, I laughed to myself. I laughed at myself for being so innocent, like a typical ten-year-old human child. Castor, on the other hand, was able to get through it all more calmly.
“What? How did that happen? I felt fine all this time.” Godiva raised her voice to protest.
“From the very beginning, I sensed that there was something strange about you. Being different is not always bad, though. I honestly like the way you look now. It’s not that you’re not beautiful, but the sensitivity level of our wolf senses is more adaptable to this appearance of yours, Godiva.”
“I couldn’t enjoy the red beans. I regurgitated them, and I am very hungry now.”
“That’s the effect of the transition,” interrupted Castor, who was already in the doorway of the room.
We were both stunned by Castor’s words. He walked over to us and held out a file in my hand. I opened it as I walked over to the sofa. Godiva followed me and sat right next to me.
I read everything written on the file. Everything was about Godiva and her parents. I heard Godiva mumble as she read, and she showed a look of surprise.
“So who are my parents really?” Godiva raised her face to look at Castor.
“Beta Alvise is investigating. One thing is for sure: you are not an ordinary human, and you are like us. Cian confirmed it after telling me the results of the blood sample a week ago before you fainted. I just don’t know why you haven’t changed like us yet, and I promise we’ll find out soon.”
Castor was always able to string words together when giving explanations. I was also amazed at Godiva, who still looked calm and not overreactive. Her brow only furrowed, and she continued reading the file about herself until the last sheet of paper.
A single tear fell on both of her cheeks. I immediately wrapped my arms around her body and rubbed her back gently. It had been a long time since I shared my emotions with a woman, and when this moment came, I felt my throat constrict.
Let me calm her down, Pol. [It’s been two days since you slept and constantly watched over Godiva.] Castor spoke to me as he gestured with both hands waving on his chest.
I whispered in Godiva’s ear, “Castor will take my place in keeping you company, Luna. I need to rest my eyes.”
“Thank you, Alpha Pollux.”
I loosened my hand from Godiva and got up from the sofa. As was obvious by my yawning a few times, I really needed proper sleep. I returned to my room and immediately lay down on the bed.
It was so comfortable as soon as my back touched the bed. It didn’t take long until I closed my eyes. At first, I had peace, but everything turned noisy as I heard a loud thud behind me.
I looked back and saw the brown wolf behind me lying on the ground. I stopped my four legs and turned around to go to him. I grimaced at Castor, who was raising his head toward me.
[Protect our Luna.]
[No, Castor. Hold on…]
