“Just ignore me.”
I’m going to ignore Pollux too. For the sake of everything, as long as I was beside him, I would try not to be provoked by him. For half an hour, he was focused on reading the book in his hand.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t close my eyes again. I guess it’s because I’ve been unconscious for too long; that’s why I’m awake now. I glanced at Pollux, who was still glued to the book.
“Do you have something to say, Luna Godiva?”
“What book are you reading?”
Pollux brought the book cover closer to my face. I read the writing on the worn cover. Pollux was reading a poem. Was he joking?
“Venus and Adonis? Shakespeare, seriously?” I propped up my chin with my hand.
“What’s wrong?”
“Are you a poet?”
“You don’t have to be a poet to read poems, do you?”
Pollux had a point. I didn’t have to be a wolf to be married to a werewolf, either. It was a metaphor that opened my mind.
I’m still human, even if I love a werewolf. Besides being my own person, I could have more freedom than when I was living with Aunt Caylee. I had the savings Castor had given me without being obligated to give them to Kayleigh.
My thoughts returned to Pollux. I was curious about the book he was reading. He looked so serious reading the book.
“Is the book interesting?” I asked with my eyes fixed on the book.
“Want me to read it?”
I nodded slowly. Pollux read the book word-for-word. I listened to every sentence and was swept away as if I were inside the book.
Honestly, Pollux’s voice sounded different. Even though he had a deep and heavy voice, he could still keep the plot of the book going. I liked the way he read the book to me.
I felt sleepiness invading my eyes. I yawned several times, changing my position from sitting to lying down. I insisted on listening, but the sleepiness was stronger.
I fell asleep until morning. When I opened my eyes in the morning, I saw Pollux still asleep on his side, facing me. There was a bolster in the middle of us as a barrier.
I checked my body, and everything was still covered with pajamas. Although I wondered for a moment, I still wanted to be in bed. I wanted to see Pollux’s different side.
He let out an unusually soft snore. I assumed it was because he was a werewolf, so his purring sound was different from that of normal humans. I’ve heard my uncle’s snoring since he fell asleep on the sofa in the living room.
“Are you happy looking at me, sweet pea?” asked Pollux in a slightly hoarse voice.
I gasped, backing up a few inches from my original position. I didn’t know he was awake. As I recall, I did stare at him for quite a while.
“You’re awake, Alpha Pollux.”
“Just now, just as I heard your pounding heartbeat,” he replied as he opened his eyes.
“I didn’t…”
I didn’t finish my sentence, leaving it hanging, because I didn’t want to be called a liar. But how did he know? Pollux’s response made my heart pound even harder.
For the next second, we stared at each other. I didn’t understand my own body. Deep down, I craved his every touch, like that night.
I swallowed my saliva with difficulty. It’s like there’s a haze clouding my brain, and I only see Pollux. I clenched my fists and pressed them against my chest to neutralize the pounding of my heart.
I became bold, and I felt our lips lock together. Pollux, even with his motionless self, had made me forget myself. Had I not run out of oxygen, perhaps this moment would have continued to be more passionate.
“I’ll save that for our wedding night. Just take your time before Castor and I pound you senseless in bed, Luna Godiva.”
He left me with a silly grin on his face. I was like a statue sitting on the bed as I watched him walk out of the room. After Pollux disappeared, I smacked myself on the head as I cursed my stupid actions earlier.
“I’m making a fool of myself, damn it!”
I decided to drown myself in the bathtub with warm water. After enjoying the refreshing sensation of the different scents, I regained my energy. When I heard Trisha’s voice calling me from behind the bathroom door, I was just getting out of the bathtub.
“Yes, I’ll be right out.”
I noticed Trisha was not wearing her uniform today. I asked her about the reason for her different appearance. I finally understood when she told me that Pollux told her not to wear her uniform anymore.
“Alpha Pollux asked me to accompany you to the salon and spa. He also said that you could take care of yourself like the ladies do for her all day long, Luna Godiva.”
“What a surprise!”
It took Trisha half an hour to dress me up. I was dressed in my favorite cream-colored midi dress and a thin maroon scarf to cover my too-low chest.
With the gold-colored handbag I took from the wardrobe, I wrapped it around my hand. I carried my wallet, cell phone, and a few supplies that women usually need. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw that I looked like a woman from the upper class.
“You are very beautiful, Luna Godiva.”
“Thank you, Trisha.”
I walked first, and Trisha followed behind. We went down the wide staircase and passed through the great hall. There I saw Castor, Pollux, and the man I recognized as Beta Alvise chatting casually.
The three of them looked familiar as I heard Beta Alvise call Castor and Pollux by name without Alpha. I guess in certain situations they were showing their status, but in more casual situations they would call each other by name only.
“Wait, Luna Godiva.” I assumed that Pollux was calling me.
I stopped walking, then turned around and said, “Yes, Alpha Pollux?”
“This is for you. You can keep your old cell phone because it’s a shit.”
I rolled my eyes. He was giving me something, but he was insulting me. I exhaled harshly and returned the favor by saying thank you.
When I got in the car, I was dropped off by the driver in a different car. From the smell, I can guess that this car is new. Smaller and more fashionable for use by women, unlike Castor’s car, which was always black with dark glass.
During the trip, Trisha and I chatted lightly about the atmosphere in the pack house. Trisha told me about the activities of the omegas, who performed different tasks like servants in the human world. I occasionally responded with a nod, and at some points that were strange to me, I asked Trisha questions.
“Ah, Trisha… I wonder where Alpha Castor and Alpha Pollux’s study is. There must be one of you omegas who likes to clean it, right?”
