Logan’s POV
“He knows something about your brother’s demise. He wouldn’t tell me.” Uncle. Jayson muttered as he raised his eyebrows, looking right into my eyes.
I felt my feet grow cold instantly as I heard those words. My eyes went wild in my greatest horror.
“Knew about my brother’s demise?” I shrugged before standing upright as I stared back at him. “What do you mean by ‘that scoundrel knows about my brother’s demise ‘ huh?” I cursed as I wrapped my right hand in a fist.
He remained quiet as he looked at me. He wore a broad smile on his face before walking away, leaving just me on the balcony.
I couldn’t help but follow him from behind. “And how sure are you that he knows who the killer is?” I asked as I stood a few steps away from Jayson.
He paused as he stood still for a while before turning around to look at me. He pushed in his hands inside his pockets as he continued staring at me.
“Why shouldn’t I trust him?” He questioned.
“How am I to know?” I scowled in defense as I tried my very best not to sell out myself.
I felt my heart gradually beating fast as I maintained eye contact with him.
“Shouldn’t we be happy that finally we are going to know who the killer is?” He questioned as he furrowed his eyebrows.
“Of course. But then, what if he is only pulling a stunt?” I scowled as I walked closer to Jayson.
He chuckled softly as he looked at me. “And what will his gain be?” He asked me as he pulled his right hand from his pocket.
“All we have to do is make him talk.” Jayson said as he tapped my left shoulder. “You should be happy about this, Logan. Finally we will get to put Liam’s killer behind bars.” Jayson said as he smiled at me.
I groaned as I rolled my eyes. “I wonder what he is actually up to. There is absolutely no way you would expect me to take his words seriously. No way, Jayson!!” I said as I frowned at him this time around.
“Is that why you brought him here? To the banquet meant for allies?” I pressed further as my eyes glistened with so much rage as I looked at Jayson who remained completely relaxed.
“What is there to be worried about? I brought him here because either way, he was definitely going to make it in.” Jayson sneered as he looked at me.
“And what is he going to bargain for?” I sighed as I looked at Jayson. “He will most certainly ask for something in return. You know that too, Jayson and are you sure you will be willing to give him that?” I sneered as I looked at him.
He swallowed his saliva as he chuckled softly. “I know you are trying to be on the defensive side, boy. But, you know even your father will give the entire world just to find Liam’s killer.” Jayson said to me.
“Yeah, I am aware of that but what I’m shocked about is your deep interest in Liam. Why don’t I get to receive the same love from you all?” I scowled, trying to change the whole Liam’s killer discussion as it was getting unbearable for me now.
“Why don’t we return to the party?” Jayson chuckled softly, briefly ending the conversation. “You know I have an entire Holmes to face?” He said with a broad smile that lingered on his face.
“Oh yeah! That’s true.” I forced out a smile, accompanied by a short laughter. “You can… go ahead and enjoy your evening.” I muttered as he looked at me.
He smiled broadly as he tapped my left shoulder again before turning to leave.
“But… you shouldn’t fully trust Collins Morgan too. He is up for no good.” I shrugged as I watched him walk away.
I punched the wall the moment he was out of sight. “Why? Why…?” I cursed twice as I tilted my lips. “What… does he even want from us? Why is he so hell-bent on destroying my family?” I cursed aggressively as tears swelled up in my eyes.
“Are you okay?” I heard Alicia’s voice in the hallway. I quickly raised my head up and she shifted backwards a bit.
I shook my head slightly as I calmed down my nerves which were racing fast and beating heavily. “I… I am alright.” I muttered as I looked at her.
The veins that stretched out beneath my eyes, receding as my eyes went back to normal. Looking at Alicia’s eyes, her fear right now was completely visible.
“You don’t have to be afraid of me.” I said calmly as I looked at her. “I… I was just going through some difficult times.” I chuckled softly as I forced out a smile on my face.
“Difficult time?” She asked, furrowing her eyebrows as she stared at me.
I could see the denial in her eyes, causing me to recline. “First founder’s banquet that I don’t have my brother, Liam by my side.” I mumbled as I arranged my shirt properly.
“I… I am sorry about that.” She apologized as she forced out a smile too. And from where I stood, I could still hear her heart racing really fast.
“Why don’t you give us some time, milady?” Collins said with a smile as he held Alicia’s right arm.
He looked right into her eyes as he wore a broad smile. And for a brief moment, I felt her heart pause before it began beating again but this time around, it was calm and steady.
I felt my wolf scowling within like it wanted to pounce on Collins already.
Alicia said nothing else as she turned back to where I stood before looking at Collins again. She walked away, leaving just me and Collins together.
“What do you want from us?” I growled angrily as I rushed him, in an attempt to give him just one perfect punch.
