Johnny looked equally embarrassed. “I swear, I really didn’t know what kind of person Sirena was at the time! I almost got killed because of her, all because I trusted her too much!”
“What was the main reason you trusted her?” Malcolm wasn’t stupid. Being a man himself, he understood perfectly well. “You liked Sirena, didn’t you?”
“Tilda, think carefully. Is this the kind of man you want?” Malcolm hit the nail on the head, and the person opposite him fell silent.
Johnny broke out in a cold sweat.
It would have been better to hit him right away! That way, he could play the pity card, and maybe Malcolm would agree to let Tilda be with him.
“Speak up!”
Malcolm raised his voice and repeated himself.
Tilda was startled and then murmured like a child who had done something wrong, “Rosalind said she didn’t mind…”
“Just because she doesn’t mind, does that mean you can forget that? He couldn’t get Sirena, so he turned around to chase you, and you agreed?”
Johnny immediately interjected, “I never pursued Sirena! I swear! I admit I had a crush on her before, but it was more of a friendly feeling! Because I knew how much she liked Ulric. There was no way I could win her over.”
“And what about Tilda? When did you start liking her, and with what intention did you begin your relationship?” Malcolm had always treated Tilda like his own sister. When she rented an apartment in Northville City, he even bought her a small apartment. He cared about Tilda very much.
Getting Malcolm’s approval was much harder than getting Tilda’s father’s approval!
“I’m genuinely serious about marrying Tilda. I’m not joking.”
“Tilda, do you believe that?”
Both men’s gazes focused on Tilda.
She hesitated for a moment but then nodded.
“Yes, I believe he’s not lying to me.”
Malcolm clenched his fist, but ultimately, he didn’t throw a punch. His lips twitched as he gritted his teeth and said, “Fine, I have nothing more to say. Before you break up with him, don’t come looking for me. And if one day he hurts you, don’t come crying to me!”
“Malcolm!”
“I don’t want to hear any empty promises from you. Johnny, if you’re a man, never make Tilda sad for the rest of your life. Only then will I believe your words. Otherwise, I won’t believe a single word you say.”
With that, he turned to leave.
Tilda quickly ran out from behind Johnny and chased after Malcolm for quite some time before stopping him at the stairs.
“Malcolm! I know why you’re angry. You think I’ve betrayed Rosalind, right? I haven’t! I’ve repeatedly confirmed with Rosalind that she doesn’t mind me being with Johnny. If Rosalind cared deeply about it, I would never have agreed to be with Johnny.”
It was not like Johnny wasn’t important to her. It was just she would never abandon her best friend for a man she had only recently met.
“Tilda, you made your choice, and I can’t do anything about it. I just don’t want to see you hurt by a playboy.”
“Don’t worry. If he breaks his promise, I won’t give him a second chance.” Tilda didn’t want to upset her cousin who meant so much to her. “Don’t be mad anymore. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Rosalind yourself when she goes to pay respects to her mother tomorrow!”
Malcolm’s body stiffened as he looked at her. “Is she going to the cemetery tomorrow?”
“Yes, Rosalind told me! But she’ll probably go with Ulric.”
