“I want to go out.” His lips twitched as his eyes became slightly shallow at the mention of that. Did Roberto ask her to meet him today and she skipped the part when narrating her ordeal to him yesterday? He would be so mad if that was true.
“Outside the manor. My mother’s sick.” She quickly added but that didn’t make him lower his gaze or stop retreating his steps towards her which she kept moving back also.
His eyes flickered to the laptop wrapped protectively against her chest, his mind went to the photo she used as the wallpaper. Her family portrait but his memory lingered on the older man.
Jasira’s father, Dario, that bastard tried to hide so well from death but he failed because no one hid from him however he left an innocent lady behind and he was in charge of her now, he would be damn mad at hell right now if knew Jasira is in his possession. He pushed the thought to the back of his mind before turning to scared Jasira.
“Why? Why must you see her today?”
“Tell her to wait until tomorrow.” Her next action throws him overboard. Jasira was kneeling before him as she stared at him with his tear-filled eyes.
The sight brought up all the memories of all the people he had killed. They knelt before him yet he still killed them. Does she know what her action signified?
He stepped away from her, dipping his hand into his pocket. His fingers brushed against the cold metal lying peacefully in his pocket, he always had a firearm with him in case of unannounced danger.
“Please, I need to see her today. If I change the appointment again, it will hurt her very much.”
“Please.” A small sob escaped from her mouth as she stared at him. Her eyes were layered with tears.
“We had an agreement.” He said unbothered tearing his gaze from her.
“I will come back, I’m not running away.” She retorted hoping that would change his mind.
His gaze dropped to her, she was digging her fingers into her knees with her lips shivering and the low sob that kept escaping from her. She looked miserable. He closed his eyes and opened them sharply. “You only got one hour to spend outside and you are to tell me if you met the man from yesterday.” He ordered striding out not sparing her another glance.
“Thank you.” He heard her soft voice behind him and a cracking sound. She must be standing up.
“Very much.” The sound faded away as he snapped the door behind him.
He can’t believe he let her out when she could be kidnapped by Eibeeto, Well, he just hopes he doesn’t act funny.
He plowed his hand through his hair and let out a frustrated sigh before he walked to the control room.
“Any news about those two bastards that escaped?” He asked Maxwell settling on a seat beside him.
“Yes, we have a clue.”
He raised his brow, “Clue? How many more clues?”
“They worked for Roberto.” Alejandro’s head snapped to him with a furrowed brow.
“They worked for him? he get an intruder in my fucking house!”
“I’m afraid yes. And the escapees are not the only ones in here. We need to get the rest.”
Alejandro threw his head back as he smirked. Damn, all of those bastards. They will beg for death when he catches them.
“What about the shipments?”
“The drugs are already here while the cars are still on water.”
He stood up and pocketed his hands. “Email me everything else I should know.” He ordered and stood up.
Jasira dropped the cookies she baked into her tote bag, her phone, and some cash she had left. She should withdraw on her way back to the manor in case she needs money again.
‘Are you running away?’ Amy had questioned her earlier when she told her she was going outside the manor. She chuckled at the silly thought she had on, even if she wished to run away, she dared not. She checked her tote once again and after she was satisfied with what was inside it, she closed the door behind her.
She removed the black ribbon holding her hair in a ponytail and raked her hand through her hair as they fell to her mid-back. After what happened to her at the club, there was no way she was going to pack her hair in public again.
“Baby girl.” She halted at Alejandro’s voice behind her. Her heart thumped quietly in her ribcage and she let out a breath before turning to him.
She watched as he strode proudly across to her. His hand dipped inside his track pants, and sweat dampened his forehead which made some strands stick to it. Her fingers tingled as they itched to run through his hair.
“Here.” A tiny black button lay on the heart of his palm as he stretched it to her.
She squeezed her eyes trying to find out what was and then it clicked. It was the same button in her phone, a tracker.
“Huh?” She asked confused and slid her slipped tote bag in place.
“Put it on the anonymous guy if you see him.” He explained stretching his hand further.
Jasira sighed before picking it from his hand. Electricity jolt through her when her finger brushed through his hand. She picked it up hastily and returned her hand to herself. Her heart throbbed fast at the strange feeling, and why on earth was her heart pounding just because their hands brushed against each other?
“Don’t get caught and make sure you have your phone with you.” He said and left her standing shocked without sparing her another glance.
He fisted his palm angry at his last sentence, This was the second time he had cared about her, If she got caught; it was none of his business and then he even said she should keep her phone with her.
“Gosh!” He growled loudly and ran his hand through his hair annoyed.
“Whatever.” He muttered before going inside his ensuite and went under the shower. He needs this after hours of working out, he can’t feel his arm anymore.
*****
Throughout the ride to the hospital, Alejandro’s words were replaying in her head. Is he worried about her safety? No, he is too cold to do that, he was just trying to make sure she wouldn’t run away, That was the best answer she could give her racing heart.
“Tch.” She scoffed annoyed at herself, but why did her heart flutter when he said that? She pressed her palm against her heart.
You better not get high hopes, he is heartless. She issued a warning to herself. If only that made her heart settle, it kept pounding in her chest especially when she thought about how his cold fingers brushed through hers.
Argh! She wanted to scream into the air but got noticed of her surroundings. She released a small breath before staring out of the taxi.
Minutes later, the taxi stopped before a gigantic white building. STATE HOSPITAL capitalized in black ink at the top of the building. She stepped out after paying for her ride.
“11:50 am.” She read out from her phone as she walked inside the hospital to sit at the reception.
The eerie feeling came back immediately when she had her seat. The feeling of being watched by the unknown. Her hand consciously flew to her tattoo which her hair covered fully.
Who is her mysterious watcher? She released a heavy sigh and brought out her purse. She opened it and breathed in relief when the black button and her phone were resting peacefully inside.
The danger of what she wanted to do made fear run through her. They pickled her like a sharp blade. It’s too dangerous but the choice was not hers.
Should she lie that she did it and throw it away? “Oh, God.” She groaned rubbing her temple, which was even more dangerous than doing it.
“Jasira,” She glanced up at the hearing of her name.
“Mom.” She called happily as she stood up. A wide smile spread on her face as her mom and her nanny approached her.
She looked more healthy and beautiful than the last time she saw her. Her skin glowed out of the sundress she wore.
“I miss you.” She said pulling her into a tight hug. The eerie feeling slowly disappeared away and she felt full; Happy and full of life. Just hugging her mother made all her worries vanish, she didn’t realize that she missed her so much until now, a low sob escaped from her as she hugged her more tightly.
“I miss you.” Jasira sobbed lowly while her mother caressed her back slowly.
“I miss you too, baby.” She whispered against her ear before they pulled away from the hug.
Jasira wiped the tears from her face and turned to Marina who was smiling.
“Thank you, Marina, I appreciate everything, your love and support.”
She is the best nanny she has ever hired.
“It’s nothing.” Marina beamed.
“I will wait here while you guys visit the doctor.” She said as she took a seat on the waiting chair.
“Okay.” Jasira smiled at her before they walked away.
**********
Jasira and her mother walked alongside the hospital garden with fruit juice in their hands after they were done with the doctor. Her mother was narrating how her days had been since she left. She listened and was glad Marina made her day lively. She can’t say the same for herself so she lied.
Marina had texted her while they were at the doctor’s office that she needed to get somewhere so they were killing time till she got back.
They sat on the bench and watched the flowers and the butterflies dancing over them. The sight was beautiful and peaceful.
She didn’t want to ruin the moment but her curiosity was getting the best of her and she was getting impatient minute by minute.
“Mom,” She called as she rubbed her thumb together. A low nervous breath left her mouth.
“Huh?” Her mother asked peeking into her worried eyes.
Jasira sighed again and closed her eyes briefly. “What does my tattoo mean?”
