Jasira felt her throat go dry immediately he said that, she turned crimson, her eyes slid to the open partition, and saw a grin lay on Maxwell’s face. She dragged it closed hastily before she turned to Alejandro who looked relaxed and smirked on his face.
“You… you didn’t just say that, right?” She asked knowing the answer. The sly grin on his face threw her off, her stomach flipped in anger before it slowly dissolved into embarrassment. She shifted away from him and faced the other side.
Alejandro was unbelievable. Saying things that made her cheeks turn crimson like it was nothing. Before she got here she couldn’t remember the last time she turned crimson over words and never would she imagined that it was the devil’s words that kept making her red in embarrassment.
The drive to the manor was quite intimidating for her. Nothing was exchanged between them which she was grateful for. When the car came to a halt, she flung the door open not waiting for Alejandro before getting down but as she was about to step out, he dragged her back in.
“What happened at the club?” He asked with no hint of joke on his face.
At the club? Should she tell him everything or lie? But decided against it knowing he could help her. She sighed before she narrated everything to him. By the time she was done, Alejandro was clenching his fists. His knuckles were already white.
He was right! The idiot had his eyes on her. He wanted to spoil his plan by confusing her so she would seek for him. Her tattoo? Bullshit! He had her first and she would be the one to help him destroy him.
“Did you know who you are?” He arched his brow at her hoping she had a tiny clue.
“Jasira, I’m Jasira!” He hissed lowly before stepping out. She was useless in that part.
“Wait for me.” She reached out to him running to meet up with his long stride.
“Did you know who I am?”
Alejandro scoffed stopped abruptly and turned to her.
“You didn’t know who you are and you expect me to know?” He asked with a furrowed brow.
“Of course, you should know everything.” She murmured taking a step toward him.
“Since you are the devil.” She added meeting with his cold blue eyes.
Alejandro chuckled darkly. He closed the gap between them tilted her chin up with a finger and made her gaze directly into his shallow blue eyes. “What did you have to give me in return if I find out who you are?”
“Bargaining?” She asked with a twitch brow.
“Nothing is free, baby girl.” He added with a smirk and stepped away from her.
“You know where to find me if you are ready.” He winked before walking away leaving her stranded and jaw ajar.
Bargaining with the devil? What will it cost her? She was not curious before but now, she was damn curious, very interested in the darkness she was living all while, and now she was ready to shield light to it. Despite all odds!
She walked back to her room, ransacking all her brain for anything she could exchange with the devil. Her body was out of the way. He had many cooks. The only thing was her talent. That would jeopardize her plan of finding out who ruined her family but then finding out who she was can also help her.
Making up her mind, she slumped to her bed dialing her nanny mother’s number. It was already late at night and she hoped she wouldn’t be asleep now.
She stopped dialing after two rings knowing she was asleep already before she finally went to sleep after shower and changed to her pajamas.
Jasira woke up with aches over her body and a banging headache. She couldn’t sleep very well yesterday. She has so much on her mind and it disrupts her sleep.
8:00 a. m., she read from her phone before climbing out of her bed, sliding her feet into the flip-flop, and walking lazily to the ensuite to have her bath.
It was almost 9:00 a. m. when she finished having her bath. She stayed longer in the shower than she expected. Her thought was roaming about and the headache refused to die down until about thirty minutes under the water. She was going to get sick if she continues her routine like this but she doesn’t care right now.
She got dressed in a comfy sleeveless gown and let her hair down.
Now she needs to get to business by calling her mother first. It has been two weeks after her surgery and she had only called her five times.
She was here because of her yet she couldn’t show her affection. She had requested that she visit her and he declined. She didn’t know how to tell Alejandro that she wanted to visit her mother so that he wouldn’t remember she was her weakness.
“Mom,” She called immediately she picked up after two rings.
“Jasira,” Her warm sweet voice filled her heart and a sense of peace ran through her body making her release a low relieving breath.
“How are you doing?” She asked. The soft mattress made a low sound under her butt as she adjusted.
“I’m fine, The surgery had no complications and I’m to go to the hospital for a check-up today.”
“Okay.” She muttered. The other end was silent and she knew her mother wanted to let out something from her mind. The distance was making them drift apart.
“Can you make it?” She asked lowly and softly, hope filling her voice.
No. The word was so heavy in her mouth. She swallowed the lump in her throat and rubbed her thumb together nervously.
“I will try.” She let out a low breathing, she lied and the lie would break her mother’s heart. She shouldn’t have her any hope but instead, she got deep into it. “Which time?”
“At noon.”
“Okay, I will meet you at the hospital.” She added. Her chest suddenly felt heavy at the weight of her lies. Then her mind flew to the strange man yesterday. Should she ask her mother about the tattoo? Nope, that’s dangerous with her present condition.
“I will drop the call.” She announced after the long silence. They both need the silence, having a lot in their minds but not being able to voice it out. It hurts…
“Bye, I will be expecting you.” The voice from the other end snapped her out of her thought and the beep sound.
She dropped her phone from her lap and released a deep breath she didn’t know she was holding.
“Gosh!” She ransacked her hand over her hair, ruining it in the process. The gel she used in rubbing her hair earlier stained her palm and she groaned standing up, so much for trying to look pretty. She snorted floundering towards the ensuite.
After washing her hands quickly, she walked out staring down at her stained nails.
She glanced up only to meet Alejandro in her room, on her bed glancing at her open laptop.
“Shit!” She muttered before lurching at him. She snapped it close and grabbed it from the bed, slamming it over her chest, and wrapped her arm against it protectively.
“What did you see?” She asked biting on her lower lips as her breath slowed down.
Alejandro glanced up from the empty bed. His cold gaze met with hers and she shivered. Did he see anything?
“Nothing much.” He shrugged rising to his feet, enveloping her with his high statue.
“Really?” She asked, arching her brow in surprise. She stared at his face trying to get any clue but the bastard was hard to read for her.
“Are you hiding something?” His deep baritone voice was low but it sounded like a wild drum to her ear.
Her hold on the laptop became tighter. “Of course, not. I’m not hiding anything. What did I want to hide?” She blabbed nervously.
The afterward pause rigged a hole into her body. The cold atmosphere, the unspoken words beneath his unbearable eyes make her skin crawl in fear. They made her heart banged against her ribcage. She shifted under his gaze clearing her throat. Did he see anything he shouldn’t see? She forgot to shut down her laptop before calling her mother. What if he saw that she was investigating the death of her father? She would been in a hot mess but judging from how calm he was then he saw nothing.
“Better.” One single phrase laced with venom. That made her throat dried up.
“Cause I won’t accept betrayal from you.” He added stressing the “betrayal” His cold words only intensified her hotness. She swallowed her saliva to grease her dried throat and moved back a bit.
“Okay.” She muttered meeting his eyes for a second and broke the eye contact.
“Can I go out?”
Alejandro raised his brow at her.
“Outside the manor, my mother’s sick.” She added quickly.
