Conrad had been waiting outside the examination room, and when the doctor finally emerged, he looked somewhat helpless.
“Mr. Conrad, Chloe doesn’t seem to be in a good mood. I think you should talk to her.”
Conrad stood up and walked in. The small figure was sitting on the bed, head lowered, as if she had done something wrong and didn’t dare to speak.
Fox had been holding back her frustration the whole way. “What exactly is going on with Evelyn? How dare she kidnap Chloe? Didn’t you investigate this?”
Conrad glanced at her. “You can leave now.”
He never liked explaining his actions to anyone.
Fox knew she wouldn’t get anything out of him, so she stormed out. If it weren’t for the surgery happening today, she would’ve snapped Evelyn’s neck as soon as she got out of the car!
The door to the examination room closed.
Conrad leaned back against the desk and looked at the girl who was still looking down. “Are you unhappy or scared?”
Chloe tugged at the hem of her skirt. “Both. Uncle, will that bad woman give me her eyes? Chloe doesn’t want them.”
“Don’t you want to see the light anymore? Didn’t you say you wanted to see the blue sky and white clouds again after your recovery? Didn’t you want to see your old friends?”
Chloe shook her head. “I hate that woman. I don’t want her eyes on me.”
Conrad crossed his legs. “Getting another pair would be troublesome. Once the transplant is done, they’re yours.”
“It’s different. She’s a bad person. I don’t want to use her eyes to see the world. Chloe can wait.” She stood up and started feeling her way over to Conrad. “Uncle, Chloe can wait, but please don’t take someone else’s eyes, okay?”
She hadn’t understood what it meant before, but today she finally realized. “I like my own eyes.”
Conrad’s expression turned serious. “Your eyes were intentionally damaged. If you miss this chance, you’ll have to wait again.”
“It’s okay, I don’t want hers anyway.”
Conrad, who had always been kind to her, nodded. “Alright.”
When he held Chloe’s hand and walked out, Evelyn had already been brought over.
As soon as she saw him, she couldn’t help but want to rush over and beg for mercy.
But Conrad spoke coldly, “Since Chloe doesn’t want your eyes, you’re of no use to me.”
Evelyn froze, and Fox raised an eyebrow.
Looking at Evelyn with disgust, Fox said, “Since she’s become useless, just leave her to me. I don’t want her spreading rumors.”
“Do as you like,” Conrad said, sealing Evelyn’s fate with one sentence.
“No, please! Conrad! Conrad!” Evelyn tried to rush over but was stopped by Fox.
At that moment, a red light flashed right at Conrad’s forehead. In a split second, he quickly grabbed Chloe and ducked, avoiding the bullet.
Those with Conrad reacted immediately.
There was actually a sniper in the building across from them!
Andrew drew his gun and aimed at the window in that direction. The glass couldn’t withstand the pressure, and soon the sound of a nurse screaming filled the air.
Conrad shoved Chloe into Fox’s arms. “Get her out of here!”
He grabbed his own gun and headed to confront the shooter.
As for Evelyn, who had been shot in the shoulder blade, no one seemed to care!
She clutched her wound, rolling on the ground in pain.
Liar! They were all liars!
Hunter had been using her as a target the entire time. When he saw Conrad, he didn’t care about anything else-he just wanted to kill him!
He hadn’t been planning to send her abroad after the job was done!
On the other side, Hunter ripped off his earpiece in fury.
“Damn Evelyn, to be abandoned at this critical moment!”
“Boss, what should we do?”
“Useless idiots! You can’t even kill Conrad-what are you waiting for? Give me the gun!”
“Whoosh!” Another bullet shot past, grazing Conrad’s ear.
Their position was exposed, and Conrad immediately retaliated.
Hunter’s glass shattered in front of him, and his men quickly moved to grab him.
“Let’s go! If we don’t leave now, it’ll be too late!”
Conrad’s people were spread all over City N.
Their risky mission was to take a shot and kill Conrad with a single bullet.
But now that their plan had been exposed, they couldn’t stay there any longer, no matter what!
Hunter was unwilling to give up, but he didn’t have any other choice.
As soon as he reached the staircase, Conrad’s men were already on their way up. Hunter had no choice but to lead his two companions toward the roof.
Meanwhile, Evelyn was running blindly, the hospital’s bomb alert sounding off as people scattered everywhere. She clutched her shoulder, but there was no one to help her stop the bleeding.
The pain blurred her vision, and she didn’t even realize that someone had stepped hard on her hand, crushing her bones!
Evelyn gritted her teeth, trying to get up.
She saw Conrad’s bodyguards searching for people.
Evelyn was startled, terrified that Conrad might come back to capture her.
She used to want to see that man so badly, but now, she feared him with all her heart.
Evelyn hurriedly pulled herself up and ran upstairs. Everyone was gathered downstairs, and as she went up the stairs, she almost got knocked down by someone.
She finally reached the upper floor, her arm bleeding heavily.
She urgently needed to find a nurse for some bleeding control medication, but more importantly, the bullet in her body needed to be removed quickly!
She didn’t want scars.
She didn’t want to be disabled!
She didn’t want that!
Just then, she suddenly bumped into someone.
It was so hot, yet this person was covered from head to toe, leaving only their eyes exposed.
The face was obscured by a black hood, looking odd and mysterious.
Evelyn didn’t want to deal with it and tried to walk away, but the person yanked her back forcefully.
Evelyn was stunned. “What are you doing!? Let go!”
“Let go? It seems like you really don’t recognize me anymore,” a cold, raspy voice sounded.
Evelyn felt a sense of fear, the eyes of the person in front of her seemed strangely familiar, though she couldn’t remember where she’d seen them before.
The person suddenly ripped off their face mask, revealing a face covered in burn scars.
“What? Still can’t remember? Want me to help you recall?”
“Remember how I was your lapdog! How you abandoned me! You kicked my parents out of the hospital, preventing me from getting the best treatment!”
“Fate gave me no choice, but someone took me in! I’ve dreamed of killing you, you filthy woman!”
“Imagine, I’m here now, and the doctor says my face is beyond saving! A full skin graft, but I don’t have the money for that! I’ve even lost my hair! Look at you! When I was in the most pain, if only you had given me a little bit of money to help!”
Evelyn recognized her. “Janet! You’re Janet!”
“That’s right! It’s me! You remember me now!” Janet gripped Evelyn’s neck tightly. “You took my face, you took my life! You destroyed everything! My life is ruined!”
“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have missed the best treatment window! It’s all your fault!”
“You-You offended Conrad yourself! Why are you blaming me!” Evelyn’s eyes were rolling from the choking.
“It’s too late, Evelyn. If I can’t live, neither will you!” Janet said coldly and suddenly shoved her back.
The stairs were near a balcony, and in the chaos of their struggle, Janet had already backed Evelyn up against it.
Evelyn’s eyes widened in shock as her body lost control, reaching out in a desperate attempt to grab Janet. But Janet sneered at her and shoved her down hard.
Evelyn’s body fell, and the sound of her hitting the ground echoed loudly.
The crowd downstairs screamed sharply at the sight.
