Chapter 59

A message from Ethan and it read, “Your happiness is all that matters to me, it’s nice to see you smile again” My heart skipped a beat as I read the message.
How did he know I was smiling? I wondered turning around and looking around the environment like a fool. I tried not to grin from ear to ear out of excitement as I looked at the message again.
“What is wrong with you Emily’ I scolded myself, he still had a hook on me and I hated it.
“Is everything okay” Wayne wondered, noticing me turn and smile like a fool.
“I don’t know, you tell me,” I said staring at him with suspicious eyes.
“Do you know Ethan, did he send you here?” I asked glaring at him as he shrugged.
“Who? What? What are you talking about” Wayne asked cluelessly and I soon realized how ridiculous I must have sounded.
“Sorry, I just received a weird message,” I said scratching my head nervously.
“Okay, can I still give you my number” Wayne wondered not bothering himself about the details of my temporary insanity.
I smiled nodding eagerly, if all it took to get Ethan to message me was a walk with Wayne, I wondered what would happen if we went to dinner together.
I took his normal dialing it immediately, “I will tell you where to pick me up, by 7” I instructed and Wayne nodded with a wide smile.
“Thank you so much for this opportunity Emily,” he said and I nodded turning to walk away to the gallery.
I spent the whole day staring at Ethan’s message and grinning, I knew I was supposed to hate him but I just couldn’t help how I felt, it felt nice to know he still cared for me too.
“He hurt you, he left you, he doesn’t care, he just wants you still stuck up on him” I tried to tell myself hoping I would come to my senses as I got ready for my date with Wayne.
“Are you going out?” My father wondered noticing the beautiful wine-red peplum gown I was wearing as I prepared to make my way out of the house.
“Yes, I have a date,” I said to my father who frowned.
“Ethan?” My father asked and I shook my head, “No Dad, Ethan and I are no longer together, this is Wayne” “he is younger” I felt the need to add hoping it would put his mind at ease.
“Emily,” my father said with a concerned voice beckoning for me to sit close to him on the couch.
“I know you are old enough to make your decisions and old enough to date whoever you want, but I don’t like how hurt you have been these past few days and I think you should heal first before going on another date,” My father said, his voice laced with concern.
“O! Dad, you are so sweet but, I don’t think you should worry about me, I am fine, it’s just one date,” I said shrugging off my father’s advice and getting to my feet.
“I don’t plan to date this person, I just think I need to get out and have fun,” I said to my father who gave me a disapproving look, if only he knew I was only dating this person to get Ethan’s attention.
“See you later, okay” Ignoring his facial expression and walking out the door.
Wayne and I had planned to meet at the gallery, and the last thing I wanted was for this total stranger to know where I lived, I took a cab to the gallery where I found Wayne waiting by the door.
“Emily!” He said as soon as he set his eyes on me, “You look beautiful” he said out of breath as he took my hands helping me exit my cab.
“Thank you” I blushed, he looked pretty nice himself, his blue suit complementing his beautiful brown eyes.
“Where are we going?” I wondered and he smiled, leading me to his Porsche and opening the door for me.
“I have been waiting for this date for weeks now, it needs to be special,” he said like a gentleman closing the door for me.
I smiled, making myself comfortable in his car as he began to drive.
As he drove he tried to make small talk with me but my mind was a little occupied, I kept glancing at my phone, hoping for another message from Ethan, anything but there was none.
“You seem a little occupied,” Wayne said and I smiled faintly.
“Sorry, I just…” I was about to make up a little lie when I noticed him driving out of town.
“Where are we going?” I wondered furrowing my brows at him as he smiled.
“It’s a surprise”
I took a deep breath as my heart began to race, I was in a stranger’s car and he was driving to the middle of nowhere.
‘what if he is a serial killer’
