OLIVIA
As Kate and I drove to Adrian’s mansion, I heard the sound of serene music emerging from within.
“Can you hear that?” I tapped Kate on the lap as we pulled into the parking lot.
“Hear what? Sorry, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Kate responded, too preoccupied with admiring her boldly applied makeup.
I shook my head sideways and stepped out of the car, leaving Kate alone. It was strange that I was the only one who heard the music despite not being alone. But what was I expecting from
Kate? She must have been super excited about the party. I couldn’t even recall the last time she attended one.
“How do I look?” Kate finally stepped out of the car, striking a pose like a supermodel.
“You don’t intend to find love at this party, do you?” I teased her before walking away.
Unlike Kate, I wasn’t overly excited about the party. To me, it was just another gathering. My first party in years. The only reason I agreed to come was to clear my head from the negativity that had been surrounding me lately.
Secondly, it was Adrian who had formally invited me. Honoring his invitation as a way to repay his kindness wouldn’t kill me.
“Oh my goodness. Look ahead of you, ma’am. Isn’t he gorgeous?” Kate gushed at a mystery man the moment we stepped inside.
Looking ahead, I spotted Adrian deep in conversation with a group of men I assumed were his business partners. His outfit reminded me of a romantic movie I had recently watched. I would have argued that it wasn’t Adrian because he looked entirely different-just as Kate had mentioned, more handsome than ever before.
For the first few minutes inside his spacious mansion, I found myself staring at Adrian as if I were seeing him for the first time. I could feel my body responding to his presence, calling for him. I wouldn’t have minded having him right there and then.
“Hello,” I saw a hand waving across my face. It was Kate. Apparently, she had been calling on me, but I wasn’t paying attention all thanks to Adrian who had captured my attention.
“Why do I have a feeling that he’s going to propose to you tonight?” Kate joked.
“How about we find something to keep ourselves busy with?” I digressed from the actual discourse.
Although, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Adrian to pop the question. Considering how hot he looked for the night, I wouldn’t mind accepting his proposal without a second thought.
“Here comes your prince charming. I guess I have to leave you two alone to have a spirited conversation,” Kate winked at me after spotting Adrian approaching towards our end.
I wanted Kate to stay with me, but it was too late. She was gone before I could stop her. At that moment, I knew I needed to maintain my composure. I wouldn’t want Adrian believing that I had fallen completely for him.
“Hi, there,” Adrian greeted me, wearing a large smile. Then he proceeds to kiss my hand romantically.
What a perfect gentleman.
If it wasn’t for my composure, I would have been licking his lips already regardless of the people around.
“I see you having a great time
Damn! You look so hot,’ Adrian complimented my beauty and made me blush. I was hearing the butterflies in my belly, singing a beautiful love song.
“Please come with me.
I would love to introduce you to some of my colleagues,” Adrian said. He wrapped his arms under mine as we walked around like couples.
I was living the dream, but with a different man that might not be mine.
No one has ever made me feel special that way before.
I was starting to think that Adrian did a full research about me before we met. The way he understands me, made me believe that we were meant for each other.
“You told me over the phone that Rene showed up at your place. Would you mind talking about it?” Adrian asked me to break the silence between us.
“Not now please
I wouldn’t wanna ruin my day
Rene isn’t worthy to be talked about,” I stylishly avoided Adrian’s question.
We barely even walked for too long when I heard some disturbing noise from a distance. I quickly stopped Adrian to call his attention. “Look over there. I think there’s a commotion going on there?”
“What commotion? Please ignore it. I would rather not have anyone ruin our day,” Adrian dismissed my concern, referencing what I had said earlier about Rene.
I tried to ignore the noise, but it kept drawing my attention. When I realized Adrian wasn’t paying attention to me, I took matters into my own hands and walked toward the scene.
As I approached the scene, I met with a few of the people who were also witnessing the chaos. “Sorry to bother you, what’s going on here?”
“I think some people who weren’t on the list are trying to force their way in,” a woman replied.
Immediately, I rushed back to Adrian and explained everything to him. At first, he didn’t believe me-not until Kate appeared, panting heavily.
“Guess who I just saw now?” Kate asked us. She was struggling to speak.
Adrian and I both shared a telling look. I have totally forgotten the commotion at the entrance.
“”Cyril just walked past me,” Kate revealed, sending my pulse into overdrive.
“You can’t be serious. I mean, how’s that possible?” I doubted her. The last I checked, Cyril wasn’t even aware that Adrian was hosting a party.
“You see that commotion at the entrance? Cyril was the reason for it. Apparently, he was struggling to get in. He finally made it inside. I guess he must be searching for you as we speak,” Kate explained, confirming my worst fear.
I couldn’t help but blame Adrian. If he had listened to me earlier, Cyril would have been at the door.
