Sarina
Maximus had always been incredibly supportive. There were days when he would follow me to the university, and I felt like a teenager again. I couldn’t help but smile as the woman stared at him, only to find out I was his wife. He would kiss me deeply in front of all the students before inviting me into the car.
But honestly, it hasn’t been easy. Every morning, I had to wake up early just to keep up with our exercise routine. Dr. Miraez told me it would help if I lost some weight, as I had been feeling insecure. But Maximus reassured me that no matter what form, size, or shape I was in, I would always be the only woman he’d love and desire.
Still, it’s hard not to feel insecure as a woman, especially when your husband is still as handsome and fit as ever. Maximus is health-conscious, so his body remains well-maintained.
Years passed, and my routine became second nature despite my lessons getting harder. My kids seemed to understand my situation. Lisa said they behaved so well when I wasn’t home.
However, when we’re all together, chaos is inevitable. My eldest, Chase, joins in, and I see the joy on his face. My concern is with Chastity, though. She’s become unusually quiet, except when we’re all together. I’ve noticed she’s not very confident, even though she tries to socialize.
Chastity is very sweet. Her siblings love her because she takes such good care of them. She’s also very thoughtful, and when Maximus and I arrive home, she’s always there to assist us-our little sister, as they say.
Occasionally, I talk to her because we understand each other best. Her father pampers her endlessly, as she’s the only girl. Maximus often says she looks just like me, which is one reason he’s extra sweet to her.
Every Saturday, which I’m thankful is a break from university, our family spends the whole day together. Maximus and I make up for lost time with our kids by going out to play with them.
My husband often gets jealous of my classmates, something I just laugh about, which annoys him. He doesn’t realize the huge age gap between me and them-I’m practically their aunt. Still, when he acts that way, I can’t help but feel flattered.
As for my health, it was difficult at first, but I managed. I overcame my depression thanks to my husband. If I had stayed alone, I might have given up. I’m also grateful to my doctor friends, who supported me and Maximus through everything.
Above all, I thank God for giving me the right man. Maximus has shown me my worth as a daughter, mother, wife, and woman. He allowed me to have a career, to become a professional, even when I didn’t need to. He gave me the freedom to choose and do what I love.
Not every woman finds a Maximus Lardizabal in their life. I’m thankful to God for giving me to the man who showed me my value.
“Mommy, you’re so beautiful!” Chastity exclaimed as I came down the stairs. She stood in line with her siblings and father, waiting for me.
“Your daddy’s so lucky, isn’t he?” Maximus proudly said, making everyone laugh. Everyone-meaning my family, parents, brothers, and their families, along with Lisa’s family and the rest of our household staff.
Today is my graduation day, and Grandma Sol isn’t with us anymore. She was my ally in teasing Maximus and helping with the kids. I miss the old woman even though we often bicker at each other.
My parents didn’t allow themselves to miss this day. It had always been their dream for me to become a doctor, and they were more excited than anyone. I remember how overjoyed they were when I told them I would study medicine.
If I pass the exams, I’ll begin my residency, specializing in pediatrics. Maximus is already wealthy, so I won’t have to charge much for my services. I plan to offer free check-ups and consultations for three hours a day, three times a week-my way of giving back to God. After all, He blessed me with a priceless family. I’ve already talked to Maximus, who agreed to build a small clinic for me.
A few months later, I passed the exam, and thank God. We were all so happy, especially Maximus. I could see how proud he was of me. My kids couldn’t stop bragging to their classmates about me.
And now, I am Dr. Sarina Marcelo Lardizabal. I’m excited to serve not just my family but others as well. While Maximus’s business continues to thrive, I can balance my career as a doctor without neglecting my duties as a wife and mother.
Money can’t buy happiness, but I’ve been able to do all this because Maximus had the means. However, that doesn’t mean that success is only for the rich. I come from a humble background, and we all know many ways to succeed. We must be intentional and keep God at the center of everything.
Not everyone will get a 10-million-peso offer from a wealthy businessman and fall in love afterward. But everyone can have a happy family if we learn to prioritize, accept our loved ones for who they are, and put God in our relationships.
Marriage isn’t always filled with love and excitement. There are moments when the thrill fades. But we promised to love each other till death do us part, so it’s our responsibility to keep the old flame alive. That flame won’t go out if we love our partners for who they are, not just for what they look or have.
Mutual respect and understanding can sometimes get lost due to pride. No one wants to submit. So when we feel like losing interest, we need to remember the joy our partner once brought us. Sometimes, we don’t realize there are promises we haven’t kept or things we’ve forgotten to do.
As the saying goes, marriage isn’t like rice you can spit out when it burns your tongue. We must be ready to face both the sweetness and bitterness, the joy and the sorrow that comes with it.
We wouldn’t know the taste of sweetness without tasting bitterness, nor the joy of happiness without experiencing sadness.
And to all those who are married-cheers to us! We hold on to the love and the promises we made when we said “I do” to the love of our life in front of God.
The End
Thank you, and I hope you enjoyed reading Maximus and Sarina’s story.
