Jayson Holmes’ POV.
“Oh! Here you are.” I mumbled as I walked up to the VIP section which was occupied by the children of the founding member children.
It was such an honor seeing the shock on their faces as I walked in, interrupting their conversation.
“Uncle. Jayson?” Logan jolted up immediately as he looked at me.
He couldn’t take a step forward as the shock had overwhelmed him already.
It’s been fifteen years since I left New Kingston, and there was only one thing that brought me back to New Kingston after all these years of staying away.
And that was to find the killer behind Liam Bohen’s tragic death.
Everyday, I curse myself upon realizing that I had ignored my wolf’s constant disturbance. I would have been there that fateful day when he got murdered, but then, I thought my brother-in-law, Alphonso Bohen, had better ways of protecting his own heir, Liam.
I looked at all of them, and all it did was to bring back memories. Memories I wished to bury forever.
Not just happy memories, but also painful memories. I watched all of them play and being the oldest then, I would drive down to their school after I was done for the day and pick them up.
I had sneaked back into New Kingston under the cover of another name but then, no more! For two months now, I have been doing a thorough investigation on Rex King but then, there was absolutely nothing there but on a second note, I knew why he was here.
He was here for one person and that person was his current personal assistant, Elena Toussaint, and that was the only issue he had with Liam for trying to take advantage of Elena.
I went through the footage and Rex King never left his apartment that day which led me down to the big question, “Why would someone want to kill a werewolf heir?”
I wasn’t only pained about Liam’s death but then, that was the only leverage I have here. That was the only thing justifiable as I couldn’t let my one secret out.
“Why are you back to New Kingston?” He asked as he looked at me. “Last I remembered, you plainly refused coming back to New Kingston for reasons best known to only you.” He scowled as he furrowed his eyebrows.
“Is this a proper way to welcome your uncle who just returned after fifteen years of being away? How pathetic it is, isn’t it?” I chuckled as I looked at him, still wearing my grin.
My eyes caught her again.
“Alicia Carlson.”
I turned to her direction as I looked at her. “Nice meeting you again, Alicia.” I said with a broad smile.
Logan furrowed his eyebrows even more as he turned to her. “Have you both met before?” He queried.
He knew the answer even before she answered.
“He dropped by at BOECH. Saw him when I was in your office.” She went further, having her eyes still fixed on me.
“My office?” He bellowed.
He turned to me as he looked at me. I enjoyed seeing his eyes glistening with so much rage in them.
“Come on, Logan. Why do you seem really pissed off?” I queried as I lifted my right eyebrows.
“I was hoping to meet with you first. Sooner or later, you are the heir to the Bohen’s pack and not just that, boy. Once you sit on that throne, there’s one thing which is certain, the other founding families would all fall under you.” I muttered as I got closer.
“Not like you care, uncle. Jayson. I know you, Jayson. I know what you are!!” He scowled as he looked at me.
“You know, you have always loved Liam more than me and you know what was really shocking, Uncle. Jayson?” He queried as he smirked.
I remained quiet as I looked at him, waiting for him to give me an answer to his rhetoric question.
“What was really shocking was how you even loved every single thing Liam loved. From basketball to tennis, to late night readings. You even told him bed stories. And then, you loved Pedro even more than me, because Liam liked Pedro’s company too.” He whined as tears swelled up in his eyes.
“I never expected any love from you though. I got used to having you ignore me like I didn’t exist. If not for Liam dying, you wouldn’t have shown up, would you? Huh?” He chuckled softly in a mocking manner as he looked at me.
“Come on, Logan. You were just a child then. And I never had a favorite.” I mumbled as I looked at him. “I am here to watch and protect you. If I was here, Liam wouldn’t have died.” I snapped as I looked at him.
The rest remained quiet as they watched us have the conversation.
“Well, sorry to disappoint you, Uncle. Jayson.” He said with a broad smile as he looked at me. “Last I remembered, my father, Alphonso Bohen, is still alive and talking about my mother, she is perfectly fine and I have Othello as well. Guess you must have forgotten how the family works.” He scowled as he looked at me.
“Are we going to do this now, Logan?” I whined. “You should know that I’m not good with family history.” I mumbled as I looked at him.
“You know, why don’t you just go already instead of spoiling our time here?” Logan scowled as he looked at me.
His eyes, glistening with so much rage. His hatred towards me was visible, making me wonder how he could still clearly remember everything that happened when he was still little.
“Really?” I scoffed as I walked closer.
“And what impression will you be leaving for your personal assistant?” I grinned as I looked at him. “Logan, the disrespectful nephew. You are still that impulsive little boy. Nothing has changed still. You know, for once I felt like you were gradually changing and yes, credit to your sweetheart, Alicia.” I chuckled softly as I turned to look at Alicia who was still uncomfortable by my presence.
I couldn’t tell why but then, that wasn’t something I should worry about. Definitely, with time, we get to see that I am the good guy at the end of the day.
