Kingsley’s POV.
I looked as my current secretary took Helen to her office. I have been expecting Helen McKinsey for a week now as my old friend, Alphonso Bohen had recommended her.
And at first, when I stepped into the Connor & Co Real Estate Company, my eyes had met with her, and when I came to realize that she was Helen McKinsey, I was shocked as I was expecting someone who was already in her mid-thirties, someone my age and not some who barely looked like she is up to her late twenties.
“So, you called for a meeting.” Connor snapped as he looked at me.
“I am revoking every right you and your son has. The media already believes that I control the firm. I saw the Elite Media team when I stepped in.” I furrowed my eyebrows as I glared at Connor, who was in his late fifties already.
“So, tell me, what stunt were you trying to pull? Drawing attention to me? You should know I don’t take attraction lightly, Connor.” I threatened as I got up from where I sat.
“It’s already all over the business magazine that I own the Connor & Co company. And today, my lawyers are here to have you handover your shares which happen to be the largest and also, we will be taking all the shares you gave out to the few business men. I can stand alone and strong.” I snapped as I picked up the file from my chief lawyer, a Korean man in his mid forties.
“Here!! Sign the documents!!” I threw it to Connor.
He reluctantly signed it as I had one of my security men pointing a gun in the head of his wife.
I had sent my men to each of the shareholders’ houses as a leverage to have them release their shares to me, and within a few minutes, Connor & Co was now legally mine, making me the No. 1 real estate businessman in Cleveland.
I grinned as I tapped each of them. “Good!! Now, you all can leave. And at least, I wasn’t that bad not to compensate you all. Every month, you all will get 5% each.” I chuckled in a mocking manner as I looked at them.
They all wore a frown which wasn’t of any concern to me. All that mattered was legally securing the place because I knew the King’s were also having plans of buying major shares here, but now that it all belonged to me, they will be gone for good.
I smiled knowing that I won this time around and this, it called for a celebration. But then, I still couldn’t get my mind off the newest lawyer that would be joining my Law firm, Helen McKinsey.
“Go, there will be a lawyer’s party tonight in my lounge.” I said to my chief lawyer and we stepped out, while the Elite Media team were still outside as their camera light was all over the place.
I wore a broad smile now as I was no longer a 25% shareholder but a 100% shareholder, making me the sole owner of the Connor & Co Real Estate Company.
The party began by 7p. m and my lounge was covered with all my lawyers. I sat down as I kept looking at Helen who was also stealing the attention of the male lawyers.
I also invited some lawyers who weren’t my friends. This was me trying to be on their good side and not just that, to buy them over.
In order to remain untouchable, I needed as many lawyers as possible.
“Hey, Kingsley.” A familiar voice called my name as I turned back to see Matthew, he was the acting chief judge in Cleveland and also, he was under Rex’s payroll.
“Oh!” I shook him as I lowered my head. “Wasn’t expecting you to honor my invitation.” I said in a calm voice as I looked at him.
“Come on, Kingsley. I had to come down to celebrate with you. It was a great feat becoming a sole owner of the Connor & Co Real Estate company. Hope you are also aware that you are currently leading the business world, and you definitely have secured a few more enemies that would want to get rid of you.” He responded with a smile as we hit our glass cup together, leaving a clicking sound.
“Of course, Matthew. And that is why I invited you over. Maybe, we could sit down and talk. Take a look around, powerful lawyers in the making.” I chuckled as I looked at my lawyers.
“And who is that lady over there? Seems like a newbie in the field.” He asked as he looked at Helen McKinsey who stood directly next to the swimming pool.
This was more like a mini pool party, as the bigger pool had some lawyers who were swimming in it.
“Oh! Yeah, newly employed. Helen McKinsey, from the Bohen’s Bureau.” I muttered.
“Bohen’s Bureau? How is that possible? Thought you both broke ties long, long ago?” He queried as he squinted his eyes.
“Long, long ago? Hell no. I can’t try such a thing. The Bohen’s family is a powerful family and our major clients. They are also involved in the technology you see my company use today. We are more like international partners.” I shrugged as I sipped my wine.
“So, Helen McKinsey happens to be among the founding families from New Kingston and you know how this works, Matthew.” I said as I looked at Matthew who was still staring at Helen.
“She will be serving here for four years and I get to either call off the contract or continue.” I mumbled.
“The contract?”
I smiled as I looked at him. “You can become richer by joining the society. The Bohen’s family has plans of establishing one of their companies here in Cleveland and in order to do that, we came to an agreement.”
“I am aware of how much the King’s family pays you monthly. I am now the sole owner of the Connor & Co Real Estate firm and I can pay you twice your current pay. All I need is your security, Matthew. And have you come to think of it? Once the Bohen’s family makes it down here, you will become one of the richest men in Cleveland, because you will also be under their payroll and being kind to remind you, Matthew, soon enough, the King’s family will come crumbling down.” I chuckled softly as I looked at Matthew.
“I will let you think it over.” I said before leaving him alone as I walked down to where Helen stood.
