Rex’s POV.
I woke earlier than other days as I couldn’t wait to get to work and be close to Elena.
I sat down on my black wicker swing chair as I kept looking out through the window.
All I had in my head were pictures of her. And I still couldn’t explain why I still haven’t gotten rid of the regret that clung to my heart.
“Why was I still madly in love with her? Or was she right all along? Would I have loved her after knowing she still couldn’t bear me kids? What if I am only obsessed and desperate in having her back because of the kids?” I shrugged as I relapsed on the black wicker chair as it moved unsteadily in circles as I wanted it.
The fluffy pillows made me comfortable in it, as I kept looking at the moon which was still but partly covered by clouds.
“No!!” I knocked off the hard feelings of guilt. I knew why I was here, I was here in New Kingston because of her.
And now that I am the new CEO of The Eleven, I have come to want her even more than before. The memories of her straight face when I made my little speech still taunted me like it was reoccurring over and over again.
I stayed up till I could hear receding and approaching footsteps. The moon was now gone and the sun was coming out slowly.
The whole excitement to get to work died down and all I could feel was the reluctance that filled my body.
“What if she drops a resignation letter? What if she decides to stop working in the hotel? What else should I do? Keep stalking her?” I thought aloud.
“Definitely, yes!” Clark walked in as he looked at me, posing at the door like he was some runway model.
I shook my head in annoyance as I got up from the wicker chair that faced the balcony. “Don’t you think this is pretty early?” I frowned as I looked at the wall clock that hung at the right side of the room.
“I was only giving you an answer to your skepticism.” He shrugged as he smiled sheepishly. “You couldn’t keep your thoughts to yourself, so I had to come in.” He sneered.
I rolled my eyes as I sat down on my bed.
“You are now the CEO, Rex. And don’t forget, today, there will be a thorough cleaning of all departments. From the manager, the supervisor, Gusto and then the other workers. You know we can’t be at a loss and we all don’t want Alice’s trouble.” Clark shrugged as she stared at me.
The thought of being the CEO wasn’t as frightening as the thought of Elena I had in my head.
All I could see. All I could picture was her rejections.
“Will you keep acting all dull?” Clark scowled as he walked into my room again to still see me seated on the bed.
“Is this how you plan making sure we don’t lose on this? We need to work ten times harder and make sure we move from partnership to sole owners of the company. Don’t tell me this lackadaisical behavior is because of Elena?” Clark shrugged as he looked at me.
I could tell from the way he looked at me that he was already getting fed up with me acting weak. I feared losing her but this time around, I fear losing my kids too.
“Come on, go get ready. We are not stopping at any restaurant to have breakfast. So, better hurry up so that we can eat and then leave for work and trust me, Rex. I’m serious with this.” He said with a frown this time around.
Before I could say a word, he walked out, slamming the door as I heard his receding footsteps.
I gathered the little strength I had left in me as I rushed inside the bathroom and had my bath, and then went for my newest suit and coat I had ordered.
I stood at the front of the mirror as I scanned the sleek, pinstripe ash suit.
I watched Clark open the door again and this time around, he had this smile on and I could tell that he was about to go on teasing me as always.
I looked at him as I frowned.
“Come off it already, Rex! Today is your day.” He sneered as he looked at me, still having those smiles on.
“You look pretty amazing, Rex. And trust me, even if she doesn’t fall for you? She will get jealous seeing other ladies drooling for you. That’s it, man. All you have to do is don’t mess it up.” He said with a smile on his face as he looked at me.
He approached where I stood as he arranged the top of my suit and then dusted the shoulders as he smiled sheepishly.
“You are good to go.” He complimented again, making me groan as I rolled my eyes.
“I have other plans.” I smirked as I looked away. “What do we have for breakfast?” I asked, as I turned to where he stood, holding my suitcase firmly.
“I prepared bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs. Trust me, you will love it.” He said as he stepped in and picked up my suitcase I had earlier arranged.
We stepped out and had our breakfast before he drove us down to The Eleven.
We parked at the parking lot and we could see lovers trooping out of the hotel. And all I could think of was when I would finally have Elena to myself again.
And right at the minute I stepped out, I bumped into Elena, with her gray eyes that inadvertently avoided mine.
I couldn’t help but stare at her, as she walked down with her friend.
My heart fluttered as I kept staring at her, and I could still hear their cherry laughter as they discussed.
