Alicia’s POV.
It’s been almost two hours of sitting down in a room occupied with different people who had also received an invitation to come for the job interview and almost everyone had different job positions and I kept getting this weird look as I was the only one with the position of a personal assistant.
“Did they open a slot for that role?” One of the ladies who was probably in her mid twenties turned to me as she looked at me.
“How could I even explain that I never applied for a job in the first place and I don’t know whose personal assistant I would be working as.
I smiled as I looked at my CV and then, I looked to my left to see another lady who was still looking at the top of my CV.
I exhaled sharply as I turned back to the other lady. “Umm, that’s the only role I could fit in. Three days from now it’s prom.”
“Oh!” She chuckled softly. “It’s been almost 10 years since I went to my prom. And here I am, approaching thirties and still searching for a better paying job. I hope this one goes well.” She said in a whisper as she pulled backwards with a beautiful smile.
I forced a smile as I was completely nervous. And my number was still a far way to go. I had dropped in by 8a. m on the dot and yet, the other applicants were already here in their numbers. I was just a few numbers to the last slot.
“I wish you good luck.” I responded as I smiled back at her.
I had a lot of thoughts running through my head right now. “What if I leave high school and yet, up till my thirties, I am yet to find myself my mate or even secure a good paying job?” I groaned as I did my best to maintain a smiley and lively face.
“You too. Ariana.” She said as she looked at me.
“Huh?”
“Ariana by name. And you?” She said as she smiled effortlessly.
“Umm, ohh! Alicia Carlton.” I responded as the door whirred open and the assistant stepped out from the interview room.
“Number 78.” He echoed and all the eyes turned to me including the woman that was seated directly next to me.
“78?” She gasped out as she looked at me in shock.
Everyone else grumbled the very moment I got up and one of the ladies flared up as she kept on ranting that she had other important tasks to do.
I exhaled sharply as I managed my steps gradually as I stepped out from the chair.
The lady behind me wished me good luck again as she smiled and I loved how relaxed she was all through till I got to the door and I turned back to her for the last time before walking in.
My eyes went wild the very moment I met those eyes. I saw those piercing eyes, one that I despised seeing because he kept me in some labyrinth.
I still couldn’t figure out what exactly he wanted from me and it made me hate everything about him even more.
“Have your seat, lady!!” The aged man said as I sat down on the chair like I was about to get interrogated for a crime I knew absolutely nothing about.
The young man who probably was in my age grade or maybe just a few years older, took my CV as he submitted it to the man that had asked me to sit.
He was the oldest in the room and the rest, I would say power and influence got them there because I could tell some were in their late twenties and others, in their early thirties aside the eighteen years old boy in their midst who was my age.
I avoided eye contact with him as I couldn’t bear the embarrassment of getting nervous and losing my stance and composure as well.
“Hmm.” The aged man exhaled sharply as he dropped his glasses a bit down as he looked at me.
I could see it clearly written on his face as he looked at me from head to toe like he was sizing me.
He passed my CV to the rest of them and they had this mocking smile that was almost making it out but then, I couldn’t tell what was stopping them from saying a word.
And finally, my CV got to the last person on the roll as he read through and he had a straight face reading through it which only made me nervous.
“Or was this a way to humiliate me?” I whimpered at the thought of it as I lowered my head.
“Was there any slot for the personal secretary?” One of the ladies finally broke the silence and the long stares.
“I don’t think so. Last thing I remembered, we just hired a personal assistant a few weeks ago. Not even up to a month.” Another of the interviewers answered as he looked at me.
“What makes you think you can work as a personal assistant to the boss?” The aged man scoffed and I could feel the mockery in his question and from his looks, I could tell he was already paranoid.
“And your clip says 78. How come you got called?”
This time around all their eyes rested on the young boy whose eyes were now on Logan who remained quiet and still on the chair.
“The young boss instructed me to call her in.” He answered as he looked at the lady.
She was the most classy lady in the room and from her appearance, I could tell she was also the bitchy type of lady.
Logan cleared his throat as he got up. “I think I’m done here.” He mumbled as he stepped out as he walked down to me. “You’ve been employed!!” He muttered with a grin. “As my personal secretary.” He handed my file back to me before leaving.
I watched how they all remained calm. “Congratulations, girl. You can go.” The second oldest man who looked like he was in his early thirties congratulated me.
“As his personal secretary?” I groaned. “What was he up to and why wouldn’t he let me be?”
