Elena’s POV.
“So from today, he will be your boss. I’m sorry I never created a good impression and a better working experience for all of you as I remained as an anonymous figure after the passing away of my father.” He muttered with a smile on his face.
“You have absolutely nothing to worry about as Mr. Rex King is a good and understanding man. You just have to abide by his rules and you are good to go. He hates lackadaisical behavior when it comes to his business. How do you expect to make millions daily when you go about acting lazy?” He asked as everyone chuckled softly.
I get what he was trying to do. He was trying to ease the tension of his workers having a new boss they know absolutely nothing about.
But then, there was no way I could smile because the same man I was desperately running away from, just happens to be everywhere in my life now.
“Was this another of his tactics to get at me?” I furrowed my eyebrows as I stared at him.
He wore a broad smile as he looked at everyone.
“But… we did a lot of checkup and realized that we were slacking behind in our executive positions and there might be some major replacement as well as dropping off a few staff as Mr. Rex is trying to see to the growth of the company.”
The workers grumbled as they whispered to themselves in panic. “Who would want to lose his job in such a beautiful place like this? 8 hours daily and a good pay and also, free medical services?”
I rolled my eyes as I looked at them and turned back to Rex, our eyes met and I gulped in a thick saliva as I quickly looked away.
“But…” He started again this time around with a broad smile. “Those who get to stay are sure to enjoy a lot of benefits like accommodations, daily bonuses and more effective health services and also, a new office would be opened which allows workers to take out a loan and pay back with a very little interest rate. You also have to get life insurance as well, just in case you get involved in any casualties during your working hours. Isn’t that exciting?” Rex said as he took the podium now.
He smiled broadly and yes, I could hear a few of the female workers who were already having a huge crush on him.
“And to those who don’t get to stay, you have absolutely nothing to worry about as your chances of getting hired again is high, if!!” He paused, placing more emphasis on the ‘if’ as he looked through the hall which was filled.
“You only get a chance to get rehired if you have kept a clean sheet record with the company.” He muttered as he looked towards my direction.
“And!!!” He said again with the whole placing of emphasis again. “Few staff as well will be getting promoted for the effectiveness of the hotel and resort. And also, in case I missed this, there will be a salary raise by 15% from next month. So, just tidy up and keep clean and pray you pass the review on Saturday!!” He said in a conclusive tone as he stepped backwards.
The workers clapped after his brief speech and I looked at Gusto and the Manager who I was confidently sure of that they were going to get dropped off.
“Then, what is the role of that slender, looking, devilish young man back there? Please tell me he is among the new people to take over because I want to be in his arms already. He looks so strong and I can feel his strong aura already and well, I’m just imagining how thick his chest and abs are. Oh heavenly!!” She winced as she looked at me, smiling all wide and her cheeks, flustering as well.
I rolled my eyes as I looked at Rex and all I could think of was how miserable my life would be now with him being my new boss.
We got dismissed and everyone was busy trying to fix whatever they were slacking behind on. I get, who would love to miss out on the new incentives?
“How then, do you intend to cope since your ex husband is now the CEO of The Eleven? I thought you said he was into Real Estate and now, he is now the fuckin’ CEO of a multimillion hotel and resort. Don’t tell me this dude is that wealthy?” She scoffed as she looked at me.
“How do you expect me to know, Marie?” I rolled my eyes as we walked down to where we could board a taxi home.
“Did you see how those girls were drooling already? Oh my, honestly, Rex is a really sexy looking man and I wonder why you don’t want to give him another chance.” She poked as she looked at me.
“I know there’s no way he is going to sack you and I think he was referring to you when he made mention of promoting some workers.” She teased.
“Can you not start right now, Marie? We need to get home first. I need to clear my head from everything as well because if not because of the good pay, I would have resigned.” I groaned as I rolled my eyes.
The more I thought of it, the more I felt frustrated as I kept imagining how it would be working under the one man I wanted far away from me.
We finally saw a free taxi that was going our way as we boarded it home and throughout that day, I felt like my world was crumbling on me again.
“You have been acting all off since we got back from work. And you think we shouldn’t just go out and maybe have some little girly fun to revive your dying spirit?” She mumbled as she smiled, pulling me up as well.
