Rex’s POV.
I yawned, stretching my body as I got up from the bed. It was another day away from Cleveland, away from the King’s Real Estate Company and away from keeping up with meetings and also, getting treated like some high school kid by my mother.
I looked at the wall clock as my eyes were still heavy and I wished I could sleep for some extra hours but then, I had other important things to get done.
I couldn’t get my mind off Elena just yet and there was absolutely no way I could ever get my mind off her.
Her words still rang in my head and in as much as I tried forcing myself to believe that with time she would return to the pack, that she would leave New Kingston and returns back to Cleveland I still couldn’t completely ignore the sharp and hurting pains I still felt when she clearly showed no interest in ever getting back with me.
I paced about the bedroom as I couldn’t clear my head completely. I glanced through my wardrobe as I was already running out of clothes.
“What outfit should I even put on today?” I furrowed my eyebrows as I kept scanning my wardrobe thoroughly.
“Good morning, Rex!” Clark greeted me as he walked into my room. “Don’t tell me you are looking for what to wear today again?” He scoffed as he looked at me.
From the way he was staring at me right now, I could tell what he had in mind already.
“Not that!!” I quickly said in defense as I took out a blue baggy jeans and a black Louis Vuitton’s hoodie.
“We both know you were looking for some sophisticated, mafia like outfit.” He scoffed, chuckling softly.
“How many times do I have to tell you that you will only scare them away? For crying out loud, they are kids and if there is any way they will like you, it is by you being casual and not dressing all up like you’re going for some important pack meeting.” He snapped.
I looked at the baggy blue jeans and hoodie as I exhaled sharply in relief even if I have never worn such before.
I was used to the whole pinstripe suit or heavy coat or at least, a long sleeve shirt neatly tucked inside a well shaped and fitted trouser and not some extremely casual wear that would make me look only younger than my age.
I threw it on the bed as I walked inside the bathroom to go shower and Clark left to go prepare breakfast.
I had gotten used to the constant parking in the parking lot and paying close attention to Kanu and Kiana.
I loved how energetic and how smart they were as well and I had no intention of taking them away from Elena.
“Here we go!!” Clark said calmly as he dropped the tray on the dining table. “You better leave a better comment this time around.” He said as he opened the plate containing three sausages, fried eggs and sliced cheese.
I sat down as I wore the napkin.
“I bet Elena would have herself dripping for you the moment she set her eyes on you today.” He scoffed as he grinned from ear to ear.
“Can you not be ridiculous?” I frowned as I proceeded with my breakfast.
“Ridiculous? I’m just complimenting your clothes, Rex!” He snapped with a broad grin which did nothing than to get me more upset again.
“So, tell me, Rex.” He mumbled as he sat down directly opposite me with a sausage already in his mouth.
If there was a perfect definition of a foodie, then it definitely should be Clark.
I rolled my eyes as I ate my sausages calmly. My phone beeped twice as I looked at the screen to see the pop up notification. It was my alarm clock, I had set a notification alarm so that I could keep on time.
It was my alarm notification. “I need to leave you!!” I adjusted my chair backwards as I stood up.
“Leave now?” He queried as he looked right into my eyes. “You just started eating, Rex!! You still have a full sausage and two untouched cheese on your plate and you want to leave it? You know you won’t be coming home not until…”
“I will have lunch with my two little adorable angels.” I quickly ended his speech as I smiled. “I can’t be a minute late.” I responded as I picked up the car key which I had left on the table the previous night.
He gave me that look of ‘at least can’t you finish your breakfast before doing whatever it is on your to-do list?’ but then, it has become a part of me.
It has become something I derived so much happiness from. I loved seeing them get down from the school bus, how they rush in as well. I loved seeing every single thing about them.
He groaned as he pulled the plate closer to his. “I won’t watch you waste this tasty food.” He sighed as he emptied my sausage and two untouched cheese into his own.”
“What if… she tells you to stay away from the kids as well? What then? Hope you won’t run mad!?” He scowled as he ate the sausage.
“There’s no way she would say such.” I said in defense, trying so hard not to think about it.
“How sure are you? You are Rex King, a powerful Alpha as well and once your enemies find out the reason you keep visiting the New Kingston Preliminary School, Kanu and Kiana would be in danger.” He said in a suggestive tone as he looked at me like he was trying to stop me from going.
“That is why I am always there!!” I defensively answered him with a smirk on my face. “And… I would love to see them try!!” I said in a light growl.
“You know Elena can be overprotective when it comes to them. And currently, you can’t guarantee their complete protection until they are back to Cleveland, back to the pack!!” He muttered as he looked at me in a stern manner.
I slammed the door as I walked away. I was done listening to him. “But what if he was right? What if I was only going to bring harm to the two little adorable angels I have come to love obsessively?”
