Chapter 13

Book:The Alpha's Hot Chase After Divorce Published:2025-2-25

Elena’s POV.
I had gotten a new job in one of the biggest hotels in New Kingston. It was owned and controlled by a powerful werewolf family here in Kingston and, after the CEO died, his two sons took over the family business.
His daughter recently got wedded into a different pack, a powerful pack as well.
And I worked in the resort section. In the beach area. New Kingston was a place that welcomed a large number of tourists every month, which meant that it was definitely a great business and also, my salary for two months could help me pay up my house rent, which was already two months due.
Marie also worked in the resort section. To be more precise, we were among the bartenders.
“Wow, there is definitely no way I’m getting into a fight here!” Marie chuckled softly as she pinched my arm, making me yelp.
“I know you, Marie.” I scoffed, rolling my eyes as I continued arranging my next order.
Marie and I worked closely together. That way, we could avoid getting into any sort of trouble.
It had been a week and I felt this loneliness creeping inside me. A week ago, Rex just happened to be everywhere and after that day I allowed my paranoia to have a better part of me, he just seemed to have disappeared completely into thin air.
I bit my lower lip at his thought as I felt bad for the way I had reacted.
I think he was only trying to make amends and be there for the years of not being with his kids, but then, I just couldn’t accept him back into my life, just like that.
Seeing him around made me hurt the most. The sleepless nights I spent thinking about how lovely our marriage was, despite the fact that I couldn’t give birth until his ex resurfaced and everything went crumbling down.
And even when I found out about his betrayal, I never slapped him because all I ever felt at that point was still love towards him.
And when I came to New Kingston, I prayed every single day that he would come searching for me. That was how badly I wanted him. I groaned as I filled the tray with the young couple’s order.
They had two beautiful little kids like me, but something was different. I saw how romantic their affair was, like it was some romantic fling between a lecturer and one of his students in his biology class.
I chuckled softly as I watched how the kids picked at each other. They reminded me of my two little adorable angels, Kanu and Kiana.
I smiled at them as I dropped their order before returning to the counter.
“Don’t tell me you are still thinking about Rex?” Marie asked as she looked at me.
She paused cleaning the glass cups with a light towel as she looked at me.
“I am fine, Marie. Why would I be thinking of Rex? Come on.” I snapped as I cleaned the tray with a towel.
“You don’t look anywhere close to being fine, Elena.” Marie scowled as she held my right hand.
I couldn’t stop blessing the day I bumped into Marie. If there was anybody that helped me move on, it was going to be her.
She smiled broadly as she used her other fingers to spread my lips too.
“You look really beautiful when you smile.” She mumbled as she looked at me.
I couldn’t help it any longer as I smiled too but then, smiling at that point also made my tears roll down my cheeks.
She wiped them off with her hand as she reminded me of the manager’s words, “We don’t blink our eyes before we sack our employees.”
His statement was highly true and that was one of the reasons I was pretty reluctant when she strongly told me about the job vacancies here, but then, I had no other option than to take it.
I couldn’t depend on her because she also had her own personal bills to pay as well.
We got back to work as we continued serving the different people that worked there.
I wondered how The Eleven could still have so many customers a day. The manager was nonchalant, and for some reasons, I felt he was making a huge profit from the two brothers who now controlled the family business.
He was chubby and a little below average, or should I say short? I rolled my eyes at his thought every time.
He was a flirtatious young man who probably could be in his mid-thirties. Popularly called “the manager” by the staff.
The Eleven had different branches in a few other nearby cities, but the one here in Kingston was the biggest because this was where they had started from.
He had no respect for his female staff as he made sexual advancements towards them and that was the only explanation why I and Marie got the job.
I was slender, and had a pretty nice and curvy figure, but Marie, she was well endowed, two years older than I was and had the experience of someone who was already in her thirties.
I tried putting my mind into my work but no, my head kept counting the number of days Rex had made no attempt to chase after me.
“Are you insane?” “Focus, Elena. Focus, Elena!!” I heard my wolf scowling.
I just couldn’t give the perfect explanation why I was thinking about Rex. But then, I still had this fear creeping in. I was aware of the fact that my two little kids might find it difficult fitting into their new world and how exposed they would be to many people who would want them dead.
“Why was I getting pissed off that Rex was no longer chasing after me or trying to play the father figure role in the life of my two little adorable angels?”
