Sara’s POV
After showering, I got dressed and went back to Christian’s room to check up on him. Kai and Levi had already cleaned his wounds and dressed them. The two avoided looking at me when I walked closer to the bed.
“You look much better,” I said, attempting to lighten up the atmosphere a bit. Kai and Levi were seriously ruining the mood.
“I feel much better,” Christian replied, giving me a soft smile. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, and I smiled back. Heavens, his smile was so beautiful. If only he smiled more
“So, how did you end up like this?” Levi asked, “I thought you were in trouble with your Beta.”
Christian sighed and looked away from me. I released a breath I wasn’t aware of holding. I cleared my throat. It would do me good to remember that he didn’t want anything to do with me. He made it clear that day on the rooftop.
Ignoring the pang that developed in my chest at the thought, I focused on what he was saying.
“That was before,” he said. “I later went on a run and some rogues attacked me. I had to kill them all.”
“But…there were so many!” I blurted. “Did they ambush you or something?” It was weird that he would come across such a large group of rogues out of nowhere.
“Have you already forgotten about your own incident?” Levi asked drily. “How many were there back then? It was likely a hunting party.”
Now that he mentioned it, I remembered that I was attacked by six rogues. If the rogues in the nearby forest hunted in groups, it was no wonder that students at North Academy were afraid of going into the forest.
“That must have been very dangerous,” I said, looking back at Christian. “Why did you go on a run by yourself?”
“I handled myself just fine, didn’t I?” he asked, arching a brow. “They were no match for me.”
“Right,” Kai said drily, “it’s not like you would be dead by now if we hadn’t come looking for your pathetic ass.”
“Why, have you ever taken down eight rogues by yourself, Beaumont?” Christian asked him mockingly.
My eyes slid to Kai. “Your last name is Beaumont?”
He shot a dark glare my way. “What about it?”
I pressed my lips together and shook my head. I could imagine him going by Beau, and it was just hilarious. Or maybe he never went by that, because I had a feeling he would never let anyone get away with calling him that. Which was a pity, because he looked every part the name.
“I’m hungry, do we have anything to eat?” Christian asked.
I was about to tell him I’ll make him something, but Kai beat me to it. “I’ll make you something,” he said. He turned and walked towards the door, elbowing me as he went by. I rolled my eyes.
“I’ll go take a shower,” Levi said. As he walked by, he pushed into me, making me stumble further from the bed.
I scoffed and rolled my eyes again. I never thought they would go as far as acting like four-year-olds.
I turned back to Christian. “Do you need anything else?”
“As long as you are here, I’m good,” he said, his blue eyes looking straight into mine.
I blinked, taken aback by his words. Definitely not something I would have expected to hear from our very own ice prince.
“Did you know how dangerous the forest is when you came looking for me?” he asked.
I swallowed, unable to look away from his eyes. Before, I always thought they were cold. Now, they looked like the most mesmerising pair I’ve ever looked into. I wonder what makes him so cold the rest of the time.
“I couldn’t just stay back while they looked for you,” I told him. “You are… we are roommates. We should help each other.”
His lips turned up in one corner, and a small laugh escaped them. “Just never go there alone, okay? It’s very dangerous.”
“Trust me, I know.”
If it weren’t for Levi, I would have ended up like one of those rogues he killed today.
“Did you also lend me your shirt and hug me because I’m your roommate?” he asked.
My face flushed when I detected the playful tone in his words. He wasn’t buying the roommate excuse, was he? He probably knew the bond between us was why I couldn’t not do anything when he was in danger.
And I couldn’t help but wonder, would he do the same for me? He had already made it clear that he didn’t like the idea of being fated to me. And, that day I was ordered to serve Eddie, he didn’t step forward to save me. Admittedly, things have changed since then, but still… I couldn’t afford to put my hopes high.
“Thank you,” he said. I should stop looking into his eyes. I really should. Forget the puzzle in my mind about where we stood concerning our mate bond, his gaze was confusing me even further, twisting my thoughts and my insides. But it was like he had some sort of magnet in his eyes that held me and refused to let go-
“Don’t take it personally,” Levi’s voice broke through the trance like a sharpened knife, “she has a habit of lending things to others.”
I could finally look away from Christian’s bewitching gaze. Levi walked into the room, hair damp from his shower. How fast did he shower?
Christian chuckled. “What do you mean?”
I was wondering the same thing.
“Undressing for males and making out with them is something she does a lot, so don’t think you are special or anything.”
My eyes popped wide open at his words. “What?” Where on earth was that coming from?
“Just the other day, Kai was all over you. Didn’t think you’d move on so quickly to the next one.”
He is talking about that day Kai tended to my wounds after he and Christian left to have their little tiff over who should take care of me.
“You don’t know what you are talking about,” I said, feeling my anger rise.
“Don’t I? You think I couldn’t smell your arousal when I got back?”
I clenched my jaw tight, both embarrassed and enraged. That wasn’t my fault, was it? I happened to have a bond with all of them, and I had no control over my body’s reaction, especially not when my wolf was being a horny little hoe.
“If you’d just choose one and get on with it already, I wouldn’t be so horny now, would I?” Edna quipped.
I blocked her out of my thoughts instantly.
“Is that true?” Christian asked, his voice nothing like what it was before Levi came back into the room.
He sounded angry, like why-the-fuck-is-my-mate-messing-with-other-males kind of angry. Like I had betrayed him.
I couldn’t keep on like this. If this was how they were going to behave-angry, jealous, petty-whenever their little egos were threatened, maybe it was better to reveal the truth. That way, all the animosity would be turned towards each other, and not me.
“Aren’t you going to say anything?” he snapped. That cold I was talking about was back in his voice, in his eyes.
“Why is it any of your business?” Levi shot at him. I blinked. He wasn’t on my side, but he especially wasn’t ready to stand by and let Christian act like he had a right to me. “It’s not like she is your mate.”
“I…” I took a deep breath. It was time to put a stop to this ridiculous situation.
