At first, Booth didn’t want to answer.
After all, Evelyn had gone back to his uncle’s side-he didn’t dare get involved.
Moreover, after actually being with Evelyn, he realized it wasn’t the feeling he had expected.
He had always admired Lillian, the one who had been like a goddess to him back in high school.
With Evelyn… well, at first, she had made him feel protective when she looked so nervous and unsure around all those expensive things.
But that wasn’t real love.
In bed with Evelyn, he was always disinterested. It wasn’t the kind of feeling he had longed for.
But in the end, he answered the call.
“What is it?”
Hearing his cold tone, Evelyn suddenly smiled bitterly.
Look at this man’s uncle-he made her believe she was unique, made her think she was loved and cherished.
But in the end, none of them ever truly cared about her.
They had deceived her.
They had mocked her.
Why, in the end, was she nothing but a pawn to be used?
She was going to make them regret it.
She was going to show them that she wasn’t someone to be easily fooled.
The things they valued, she would destroy them in her hands, making them understand-never underestimate the power of the smallest creatures.
“Booth, I’m pregnant.”
On the other end of the phone, there was a pause, followed by the sound of Booth clumsily dropping his game controller.
“You’re pregnant? You’re not making this up, are you? I always used condoms!”
“Condom doesn’t guarantee 100% birth control. You don’t need me to tell you that,” Evelyn replied coldly.
Booth replied, “Are you sure? We’ve only had sex twice!”
The first time had been after he was drunk, and he admitted that he had been impulsive. But the second time felt completely different.
It had been exciting at the moment, but it wasn’t the kind of feeling he had been expecting.
Afterward, facing Evelyn again, he found himself uninterested.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to have sex, but, like any young man, he was curious. Still, with Evelyn, he regretted it. He wished they hadn’t made love that night. Now, he felt awkward and uncomfortable.
Moreover, it was his uncle who had called her back.
She had eagerly gone back to wait for him, and it made him lose any guilt he had left for her.
And now, she was calling him to tell him she was pregnant with his child!?
“If you can have sex, you can get pregnant. What’s so strange about that? There are plenty of people who get pregnant after just one time,” Evelyn snapped, no longer her usual sweet self, only impatience remaining.
Booth fell silent. “Does my uncle know? What if it’s his? Have you tracked your days? It hasn’t been long, right?”
“It’s yours! Your uncle didn’t touch me-how could it be his child?”
Booth froze. That night, she had been so proactive that he assumed her skills in bed were something she had picked up from being with his uncle.
He rubbed his face. “Are you really pregnant?”
“Do you think I’d lie about something like this? What do I gain from that?”
Booth scratched his head. “So, what do you want to do about it? This child can’t stay! If my uncle finds out, he’ll kill me.”
Evelyn’s heart turned to ice. “So, it’s all about you, huh? Do you think I’m the only one who has to carry this child? Booth, how old are you? Are you still a little boy who needs someone to feed you?”
Booth was getting frustrated. “I’m serious here. What’s your relationship with my uncle now? You’ve chosen him, but now you’re carrying my child. Do you want us both to die?”
Evelyn sneered. “What are you afraid of? From now on, if you don’t want to be exposed, you’ll have to listen to me. Otherwise, I don’t even know what I might do.”
“What are you going to do? Hello? Hello!”
But Evelyn had already hung up the phone. She walked over to the man in front of her.
“Go tell him, I’ve agreed.”
Conrad. Lillian.
She would give them the most painful revenge.
She regretted not being the one to kill Lillian’s grandmother in the car.
She never got to see Lillian suffer, and that was a real shame.
But it was fine-there was still time.
******
Alice pushed open the door of the cafe and saw Evelyn sitting by the window.
Their relationship had been decent before, but after Alice became a sidelined figure in the CEO’s office, Evelyn stopped bothering to stay in touch with her.
So when Alice got Evelyn’s invitation, she was a bit surprised.
But looking at Evelyn now, she seemed to be doing better than expected, perhaps even better than Alice had imagined.
Evelyn looked at Alice as she sat down. “I ordered your favorite Americano. I didn’t forget, did I?”
Alice thought Evelyn had changed a lot. She used to be an innocent girl who knew nothing, but now she spoke and acted with ease.
It seemed that money really was the best tool for transforming someone.
“What made you want to reach out to me today?”
“I heard you’ve been giving Daisy a lot of expensive gifts lately, but she hasn’t been very receptive. Well, who would want a woman around who’s eyeing her fiance? You’ve been following Daisy’s path, but you chose the wrong route.”
Alice was speechless. “You talk like you know everything. You’re barely holding it together yourself, and now you drag me out just to mock me?”
Evelyn looked at her, noticing that Alice’s clothes and accessories still reflected a level of wealth Evelyn could never reach, and couldn’t help but scoff. “Fine, let’s get straight to the point. If you want to get closer to Daisy, I have a way.”
Alice raised an eyebrow and looked at her. “What kind of way?”
“Lillian’s grandmother died. You know that, right?”
Alice paused mid-stir, her hand freezing for a second. “Yeah, I know. Everyone in City N knows that.”
Conrad had kneeled for that old woman from the countryside-who didn’t know about that?
If Daisy’s whole family died, Conrad wouldn’t even bat an eye.
Just thinking about it made Alice’s chest tighten.
It all seemed to be for Lillian, a woman she could never compare to, and Alice couldn’t stand it.
From the moment she first saw Conrad in the public eye, she had fallen completely for him.
He was mysterious, dangerous, and full of that irresistible attraction between the sexes.
She knew her family’s status was nowhere near high enough to even dream of being with him.
Luckily, her father had been the first to notice him, so during that early time, she often saw him invited over to their house for dinner.
Those had been the happiest days of her life.
Just handing him a glass of water had felt like the greatest joy. She would always cherish that feeling.
But… the man she had once thought of as unreachable had actually bowed down for a woman as low as Lillian. That thought twisted in her mind like nails on a chalkboard.
Because Alice believed-no, she knew-that she loved Conrad more fiercely than anyone else. She understood him better than anyone.
She knew it. She understood it.
Conrad loved Lillian!
The first time she saw Lillian in Conrad’s bed, it felt like her world had come crashing down.
She was jealous-wildly, insanely jealous.
She knew she had only gotten into Brown Family Group because she was assigned to take care of Lillian, but she refused to get along with her. She wanted Lillian to know that her relationship with Conrad was real, but Lillian, she was just a mistress who should sit back and buy gifts for him while accompanying him around!
She wanted Lillian to stop trying to steal Conrad’s heart.
But Lillian was greedy. She wanted everything-she couldn’t settle for just being the mistress.
Lillian wanted Conrad to love her. Alice could see it in the way Lillian looked at him; she wasn’t blind.
“Well, let me tell you, it was Daisy who secretly manipulated things behind the scenes, which led to her grandmother’s death.”
Alice’s thoughts were abruptly interrupted by those words, and after a moment of shock, Evelyn gave her a faint smile. “You’re smart. You should know what to do next. I don’t need to teach you.”
