Chapter 198 It Was A Scam

“Giving you money makes him good to you? The one thing Conrad has plenty of is money. Get a clue, idiot.” Hunter looked at her, who was crying and laughing on the floor, clearly crushed. He felt annoyed.
“These grown-up idiots… apart from the pleasure they bring in bed, there’s nothing pure about them. Those little, soft girls are much better to fuck.” Hunter thought to himself. He took satisfaction in watching them struggle and die. It was utterly gratifying.
“I… It’s impossible. He would never see me as just a container for eyes. He loves me, cares about me… I’m his type! I’m just like Lillian. Everyone says we’re similar!”
“I don’t know about other men, but for Conrad, he loves Lillian, not her type. And honestly, where are you and Lillian even similar?”
When he kidnapped Lillian back then, she had already started trying to buy time when she realized the situation wasn’t going in her favor.
Hunter threw a package from the table onto the ground. “Do you want to keep your eyes? If you do, take this and leave. If you don’t, you won’t need to leave again.”
Hunter grinned wickedly. “Because you’ll die here.”
After hearing all his secrets, there was no way he would just let her leave. It wasn’t his style.
Evelyn looked at the object on the floor, trembling as she asked, “What is this?”
“You don’t need to know. During the surgery, you and that little girl will be in the same operating room. My people will be there to help you. While you’re waiting, you’ll inject this into her. I’ll give you a huge sum of money, enough for you to live off for the rest of your life. I’ll even send you abroad, far away from here.”
“Your parents, who only know how to suck you dry and don’t care about anything else, and your useless brothers, will never find you again. You’ll live the life you’ve always wanted-living among the wealthy. Just forget about everything here.”
“It’s a great deal, don’t you think?”
“You want me to… kill her?” Evelyn’s eyes widened in disbelief.
She just wanted to be rich-she never imagined she’d be asked to kill someone!
“If she doesn’t die, you will.”
Evelyn wanted to cry, but she couldn’t.
The shock was too much for her.
She had never imagined that Conrad’s kindness toward her came with a price.
She wasn’t kept around because he loved her.
She refused to believe it-no matter what this man said, she didn’t believe any of it!
She had to check for herself.
Conrad had so many enemies, and this strange person who appeared out of nowhere was talking nonsense.
Why should she believe him?!
“I’ll check for myself. Can you give me some time? My head’s a mess right now.”
Hunter narrowed his eyes. “Trying to pull a trick?”
“I’m not pulling a trick! I can’t just believe everything you say, can I? I’m going to check the hospital where I had my physical!”
Hunter sat on the table, watching Evelyn struggle, still clinging to the idea of hope.
He didn’t say anything, just raised his hand. Evelyn watched as the iron door behind her opened, and someone stepped in, ready to blindfold her and pull her out.
But Hunter was playing with his knife, blowing a breath across its blade. “I’ll give you one chance. After that, you’ll come back here on your own. Of course, if you want to go tell Conrad, feel free. But it’s either your eyes or your life. You can only choose one.”
After saying this, Hunter waved the knife in front of Evelyn’s face. “Do you know what it feels like when a knife goes into your eye? Everything turns red. You can’t feel anything except the pain, the knife scraping along your eye socket, turning. It rubs against your nerves, and then your eyeball…”
“Stop, stop talking!” Evelyn screamed in terror.
He was a madman! This insane person, talking to her like a psychopath, she didn’t want to hear any of it.
She took a few steps back, trembling. “I want to go to the hospital. Take me to the hospital!”
She needed to understand what was going on.
She couldn’t just die like this. Conrad wouldn’t lie to her.
Hunter frowned, glaring at the insane woman. Her sharp voice was so grating that he almost wanted to shove the knife into her throat and silence her forever.
But keeping her alive had some use for now-otherwise, he would’ve killed her just to break in this new knife.
When Evelyn was dumped outside the hospital, she was still dazed and unsteady.
Standing in the sunlight, her eyes burned from the brightness.
She had recently undergone a checkup, where the doctor told her she had been straining her eyes too much. Ford had also scolded her fiercely.
She had been so scared, going to bed early, waking up early, and taking extra care of her eyes.
And now, she was being told that all of that was a lie.
She was just a living donor.
She refused to accept this.
She had to know why this was happening to her.
Clutching the bag in her hand, she walked upstairs.
She found the same nurse from before, giving her dozens of thousands of dollars in jewelry, limited-edition bags, and a bank transfer. Only then did the nurse hand over her medical records.
Evelyn started flipping through the pages from the beginning, only to freeze when she reached the last part. Her pupils contracted when she saw the word “transplant.”
She wanted to rip the medical record apart and storm into the Brown Family Group’s office to confront him-asking what she had done wrong!
Why was it her? It couldn’t be Lillian, or any other woman, just her!
But now, she realized how horribly wrong she had been.
When she thought about it, it all started that day when she took his coat, walking into the trap herself.
It was laughable that she had always thought her charm had driven Lillian away!
From the very beginning, it had all been a scam.
It was utterly ridiculous!
So, all this time, she had been like a clown, a joke in the eyes of Conrad and Lillian.
What did she even mean to them? What was she even worth?!
The nurse was outside, hearing the loud, mournful crying from inside. She was so scared that she pushed the door open. “Miss Evelyn, are you okay? Please finish and leave quickly. I can’t let you keep these records for too long.”
Evelyn stared at her intensely. “I’ll give you five hundred thousand dollars. Tell me, why did they choose me?”
The nurse hesitated. “I’m not sure. It was just that your name was on the list of volunteers our hospital collected at the time.”
Evelyn froze, suddenly remembering what her parents had said before. They were struggling financially, and they mentioned something about donations that could bring in a large sum of money-but they’d have to wait in line. With that money, they could buy a house, buy land, and even live in the city. Her two younger brothers would also have the chance to attend school.
“Miss Evelyn? Miss Evelyn?”
Evelyn smiled foolishly.
She slowly stood up and tucked the medical records into the nurse’s arms.
“Miss Evelyn, please, don’t tell anyone I showed you these.”
But Evelyn didn’t care.
She walked into the elevator, looking at her reflection in the mirrored walls.
Dressed in expensive luxury goods, covered in logos, she had indeed achieved the glamorous life of a celebrity.
Anyone who knew her back then would have envied her.
Conrad had shown her what the world of the rich looked like.
He had fueled her desires, and taken her to many places she had only dreamed of.
She could never go back.
So, from the very beginning, she had been that volunteer…
And she had crossed paths with Conrad, been chosen.
It seemed that fate had been decided long before.
She stared at the items she had once longed for, now wearing them as if they meant nothing.
She felt utterly ridiculous, almost terrifyingly so.
When she reached the hospital’s entrance, she saw the man watching her from the black car.
He had been sent by Hunter to follow her.
They were just afraid she might run.
Evelyn pulled out her phone and dialed Booth’s number.
