Chapter 269: Falling Ill

“Vroom-”
Darnell didn’t stop there, he stepped on the gas pedal again, and the car rushed towards the crowd.
The five men who were attacking Callum quickly scattered and tried to avoid the impact. However, their speed was no match for Darnell’s ferocity. The car sent three people flying, followed by a fierce sweep of the rear.
Two more men fell to the ground, blood spilling everywhere, a gruesome scene.
Lillian held the little boy tightly, shielding him from witnessing this bloody scene.
At this moment, Darnell turned the steering wheel again, causing the Porsche to spin in place and sending the three men who were restraining Callum flying away, resolving Callum’s crisis.
The next second, Darnell snatched Lillian’s scarf, wrapped it around his mouth and nose, and swiftly got out of the car, picking up an axe along the way.
“Callum, take a break.”
Darnell pulled the bloodied Callum behind him. “Let me warm up.”
Callum coughed and spat out a mouthful of blood, grateful beyond words. “Be careful.”
“Kill!”
The two members of the Axe hesitated for a moment before charging at Darnell with loud howls.
Darnell stepped forward with a cold gaze, watching the two opponents who sought death.
The two axes glistened under the lights as Darnell stood firm without moving. When the light from the axes elongated rapidly, he flicked his wrist.
“Swish!”
A beam of light flashed by, simple yet beautiful.
The chests of the two men were stained with blood as their axes fell to the ground and they screamed in pain.
Seeing Darnell easily defeat their two comrades, the remaining ten or so enemies suddenly froze and turned their gaze towards Darnell.
A chilling breeze blew over, bringing goosebumps from the depths of darkness.
The road under the dim streetlights seemed like a path leading to the depths of hell.
“Kid, you dare to meddle in the Axe’s business?”
A leader with braided hair shouted, “Do you want to die?”
Darnell coughed. “I’m just doing what’s right.”
The leader with braided hair laughed angrily. “Doing what’s right? You’ll get yourself killed.”
“Take him down!”
These bloodthirsty men were shocked but immediately became furious. They charged at Darnell with intense killing intent.
The momentarily calm situation once again descended into chaos. Six or seven burly men surrounded Darnell.
Axes swung from all directions, creating a hissing sound as if the Grim Reaper was wielding his scythe.
“Whoosh!”
A cold expression crossed Darnell’s face as he moved forward instead of retreating. His axe swung in mid-air when a flash of cold light appeared.
The chests of three men were instantly slashed open, blood spurting out. As their bodies fell to the ground, Darnell retrieved his axe and swept it across two nearby individuals.
Then he flicked his wrist again and struck another person on the back of his head. With a dull thud, he collapsed with blood flowing from his head.
Five men lay in front of Darnell, none of them able to get back up.
Everything felt like an unending nightmare that couldn’t be changed.
The chaotic scene once again fell into silence. The remaining five burly men watched helplessly as their severely injured companions lay before them.
They felt a coldness spreading from their fingertips to their hearts. Cold sweat trickled down their spines as if a venomous snake was slowly slithering on their backs.
Callum had already caused panic among them by leaving dozens of dead bodies behind.
Now that Darnell displayed such formidable strength by easily defeating over ten people, they couldn’t help but feel fear creeping into their hearts.
It was a shocking turn of events. However, if they failed to complete their mission-kill Callum and the boy, they wouldn’t be able to explain themselves upon returning.
“Kill them!”
The leader of this group shouted sternly, “They must die.”
His words were like a stone falling into still waters, creating ripples. He then raised his axe and charged at Darnell first.
His four companions also brandished their axes and charged forward without hesitation.
“Swoosh swoosh swoosh!”
Darnell didn’t fight back desperately this time. He swiftly kicked five axes with his right foot, all hitting his opponents’ foreheads with loud thuds.
They fell down one after another while clutching their wounds in agony.
“Callum, I leave the rest to you.”
After knocking down all his opponents, Darnell threw his axe on the ground and ran to his Porsche. “I’ll be waiting in the car.”
He didn’t want to kill them, so he left these injured ones for Callum to handle.
“Alright!”
Callum caught his breath and exhaled hot breath. He understood what Darnell meant and tore off a piece of clothing to wipe the axe handle.
He carefully wiped away Darnell’s fingerprints and then rushed towards the injured enemies.
Tonight, ten of Callum’s brothers were killed and he himself narrowly escaped being hacked to death by them. Naturally, he had to take revenge.
The leader with braided hair sensed danger and struggled to escape while enduring pain. But after running only a few meters, he heard a whooshing sound followed by pain in his back.
Then he lost his balance and fell to the ground. Callum appeared next to him and pulled out the axe before swinging it at the man’s neck.
The leader with braided hair didn’t even have time to scream before he took his last breath in a pool of blood.
Callum tore open a collar and then rushed towards others directly without mercy.
While Callum went on a killing spree, Darnell turned the steering wheel and changed direction so that Lillian and the boy faced away from the bloody scene.
Although he didn’t know who the boy was, scenes like this should be shielded from him. Darnell also wiped away any traces of blood on his fingers with a wet wipe.
At the same time, he played soft music to soothe the little boy’s nerves.
“Ah-”
A short but piercing scream rang out. In less than three minutes, over twenty members of the Axe lay in pools of blood without a single survivor.
Callum tossed the axe to the ground and dashed to the Porsche, quickly climbing inside. He immediately grabbed Darnell’s phone.
“Cedric, I’ve taken down dozens of the Axe scum on Clove Lane. Get a few people to clean up.”
On the other end of the line, a man quickly replied in a respectful voice, “Understood.”
Next, Callum called a familiar high-ranking officer in the police department, briefly explaining the situation and urging them to find a way to minimize the fallout.
Once he had taken care of everything, Callum turned to Darnell and managed a grateful smile. “Thanks, brother.”
Darnell smiled lightly, “Last time at the club, you stepped up for me. How could I possibly stand by tonight?”
“Besides, we’re good brothers now. Good brothers don’t need all this politeness.”
His fondness for Callum surpassed anyone else from the Apex.
Callum burst into laughter and patted Darnell’s shoulder.
Darnell glanced at the little boy but decided to remain silent about his background. Curiosity could kill a cat, after all.
Then he changed the subject. “Callum, it has been over a week since the Apex started fighting against the Axe. How is it going?”
Hearing Darnell’s question made Callum’s smile stiffen for a moment. He shook his head gently. “We’re retreating step by step.”
“Retreating step by step? Although the Apex may not be as strong as the Axe, it shouldn’t be retreating step by step,” said Darnell in surprise.
“Mr. Dane fell seriously ill and is bedridden.”
Callum’s face darkened as he continued. “Several group leaders were cowards and took this opportunity to join the Axe. The Apex is now facing both internal and external troubles.”
“We’ve lost quite a bit of territory these days, and morale in the gang is shaky.”
Darnell was shocked. “Luca fell seriously ill?”
