Ten minutes later, in the Porsche, Lillian, after hearing the whole story, pounded on Darnell and scolded him,
“You idiot, do you know what you were doing? You almost caused a revolt in the sales department and paralyzed the company’s operations.”
“Spreading false orders from Miss Fanshaw to deceive them, are you asking for trouble?”
“Aren’t you afraid that Miss Fanshaw will find out and tear you apart?”
She broke out in a cold sweat. If all two hundred people gathered and went to Areli or headquarters to complain, Darnell would be in deep trouble.
Darnell started the car and turned the steering wheel to drive out of the Vertex. He showed no fear.
“The sales department has already experienced turmoil, and morale and fighting spirit have long been low.”
“If we don’t use some drastic measures or incentives at this time, I’m afraid everyone will just drift through the days. In a few months, it will be difficult to make a hundred million dollars.”
Lillian sighed lightly, “That’s true. There have been too many changes, and they lack motivation and passion in their work. But you took it too far.”
She glared at Darnell. “It would have been better to cheer them up with incentives rather than scare them with layoffs.”
Darnell smiled brightly, “The company has limited funds, so it’s not possible to offer incentives. The only option is to scare them with a 30% layoff threat. That’s when they’ll start to feel afraid.”
“Thinking about how they need to support their families, and then I pretend to plead for them and help them keep their jobs.”
“That way, they will cherish this hard-earned opportunity and see me as their savior. In the sales department, they will worship me.”
There was a thoughtful look in his eyes. “As for the 10% commission increase, it is within manageable limits.”
“If they can achieve one billion in sales by the end of the year, a 10% commission increase is insignificant. For the company, it’s a drop in the bucket, and the profits are still substantial. It’s normal to give those who work hard a higher commission.”
“If they fail to achieve one billion in sales, naturally, I don’t have to fulfill my promise.”
Darnell smiled. “But judging by how happy they were just now, achieving one billion in sales shouldn’t be a problem.”
Lillian’s mouth slightly dropped open as she stared at Darnell.
When she called Darnell shameless, she also felt how terrifying this bastard was. Without spending a penny, he managed to completely disrupt the morale of two hundred people. It was nothing short of extraordinary.
However, she still had a hint of worry in her eyes. “Did you report this to Miss Fanshaw?”
The car was moving fast, and as they spoke, they had already arrived at the back entrance of a Haagen-Dazs store. Darnell turned the steering wheel to prepare for parking.
“No,” Darnell replied when he heard Lillian’s question. “That’s why I buy you Haagen-Dazs. Help me report it.”
Lillian threw a cushion at Darnell.
“Ouch!”
As Darnell dodged Lillian’s attack, he also caught sight of a figure moving at the corner ahead and instinctively stepped on the brakes.
The car came to a stop abruptly when the figure stumbled towards them with a young boy in tow.
A bald man was running, gasping for breath. His clothes were tattered with visible wounds covered in blood.
The redness of his injuries was chilling.
The pale-faced boy of seven or eight bit his lip tightly with an indescribable despair.
“Kill him! Kill him!”
Behind them, a group of pursuers came running like wolves.
With shining axes and fierce expressions on their faces, they looked like gangsters.
It seemed like a vendetta from the underworld, and the pursuers were from the Axe. Darnell was about to stay put but then saw the bald man raise his head defiantly-it was Callum!
Callum’s appearance made Darnell widen his eyes.
Seeing that there was a car blocking their way, Callum hesitated for a moment before turning around to face the pursuers who were charging towards him.
With a sudden motion, he swung his arm.
He threw the little boy next to the car and shouted, “Run! Go find a police officer! Hurry, go find a police officer!”
The headlights were blinding, and he couldn’t make out if it was Darnell inside, but since no one emerged from the car to confront him, he figured it wasn’t an enemy.
The young boy stumbled to his feet while calling out with a teary voice, “Callum!”
Callum yelled back, “Go! Run!”
“Kill them!”
Callum gritted his teeth and turned to confront the members of the Axe who were closing in on him, determined to shield the little boy.
Darnell got out of the car, quickly pressed the frightened boy down inside, locked the doors, and shouted to Lillian, “Keep an eye on him!”
Lillian wrapped her arms around the boy, trying to soothe his fear and anxiety.
“Bang!”
As Darnell squinted to assess the battlefield, Callum, ignoring his own wounds, kicked out forcefully, sending one of the burly attackers sprawling to the ground.
The man let out a blood-curdling scream as he fell, blood pouring from his mouth, struggling to get back up.
Then, Callum seized the wrist of another enemy swinging an axe at him. Before the attacker could react further, Callum tightened his grip.
“Crack!”
The sheer force of his fingers was suffocating, producing a chilling sound as the opponent’s wrist snapped under the pressure.
Callum’s grip was nothing short of monstrous.
As Darnell looked on with a hint of admiration, Callum deftly caught the enemy’s axe and swung it back in a smooth motion, and blood spattered everywhere.
“Ah-”
One of the attackers who had tried to sneak up from behind screamed as he fell, blood soaking his chest.
The injured enemy staggered back five steps, letting out a deafening howl, but it was short-lived, as Callum’s axe swiftly cut through his throat.
Blood erupted from the fallen foe, who collapsed to the ground, his life extinguished.
Callum fought ruthlessly, sustaining several cuts himself as he focused on eliminating the enemies in his sights. In no time, he took down at least six men.
But the numbers were simply too overwhelming. As he held his ground, the axe flashed fiercely, and soon his body was drenched in blood.
One of the blows landed on his back, cutting deep enough to expose the bone.
“Sir, please, save Callum!”
The little boy, who bore a striking resemblance to Luca, pleaded, “Save Callum!”
Lillian held the boy tightly, whispering soothing words, “It’s okay, it’s okay. He will save him.”
Her gaze flicked to Darnell, unspoken but clear in its intent.
“Kill!”
At that moment, two members of the Axe locked onto Darnell, their eyes blazing as they weaved through the chaos of the fight, heading straight for the Porsche.
For these bloodthirsty attackers, it didn’t matter if they took down one or two. After all, the little boy was their target.
Lillian screamed, “Darnell! They’re coming!”
“Vroom!”
At that moment, the Porsche suddenly shot forward like a wild beast and collided with two unsuspecting thugs.
“Bang!”
The two members of the Axe couldn’t dodge in time and were sent flying with screams as their axes fell to the ground.
