Chapter 86

She opens her eyes and stretches her arms. She misses this kind of comfort where she doesn’t have to wake up seeing a white wall and hear a beeping sound. Even if she still needs to be treated at home, at least it is much better.
Melody lifted her gaze seeing Damian sleeping soundly beside her. He looks so peaceful. If he awakes, he looks like someone who will kill you without a second thought.
“Stop staring. I’m awake, you do know that right?” Damian speaks with his eyes closed.
“No, I didn’t know that,” she scoffs. “Besides, is it wrong for me to stare at my husband’s face?”
“I didn’t say it wrong,” he rubbed his face. “I know I’m that handsome. No need to stare that much.”
Melody looks at him with disgust. She rolls her eyes and sits up, leaning on the headboards.
“What? I say the truth. You can’t say no to this face, right?” He grins.
“Whatever. Hey, can I ask you something?” She asks.
He raises his eyebrows for her to continue.
“What happened to my bakery?” She fiddles with her fingers. “Is it…bad? I-I mean, of course, it’s bad after being ambushed.”
Damian let out a sigh and raised himself. “It’s in a bad state, of course. If you asking me to fix it, I don’t mind.”
“Does that mean I can continue my business?” She beams.
“No.”
Her smile faded, and her shoulder slumped. “Why not…”
“Mel, you are on target right now. If you continue, there’s a big chance they’ll target you again,” he explains.
“Besides, maybe they will plan to ambush you again-who knows”
Melody slightly pouted. She wants to continue her bakery business as it is going so well. If the ambush hadn’t happened, she probably would have been there already, working. Baking and everything.
Damian noticed her pout and saw her expression. He knows how much that bakery means to her since it is one of her hobbies. Besides, they start the business together.
“So, the business just stopped there?” She mumbles.
He sighs quietly.
“I know you are eager to bake right now. But we are on target. So, we should stay low for a moment.”
“I know…” she looks down to her hands.
Seeing her like this made something stir inside him. Suddenly, he grabs her waist and pulls her to sit between his legs. Melody yelped and stiffened. This kind of action from him made her heart fluttering.
“W-What…”
“I’m sorry about your bakery. It’s okay. I promise you, we will get your bakery back to business in no time,” he wrapped his arms around her waist.
“In this meantime, please be patient. Just tell me if you need anything to satisfy your needs, yeah?”
He tries to comfort her with his best. He can’t fulfil what she wants so this is what he can do for now.
“I-It’s not your fault. Don’t blame yourself. It’s happened,” she clears her throat trying to act normal.
“I know we have already talked about this and settled it out but…I just couldn’t stop thinking it was me who caused all of this,” Damian put his forehead on her shoulder.
Her body becomes tense. She felt him so close. The heat from his body wrapped around her. His scent lingered in her nose. How can he smell so fresh even just woke up?
Damian becoming affectionate like this always made her flustered.
“Hey…stop thinking like that. I never blame you for it. We are promised to face it together, aren’t we?” She whispers.
He was silent for a moment, “Mhm…”
His grip tightened around her waist. Soft whines escaped from him and his face snuggled on her neck.
Since when did he know how to become a baby?
“D-Dam, can we go to my bakery? I-I just want to take a look…” Melody speaks out.
“Fine. But not too long, understand?” He mumbles on her neck.
“Yes. I understand.”
It has been a few minutes and Damian hasn’t moved from the position. Melody is still being held by him. She glanced at the clock and it was already 10:50 am.
“Dam, it’s almost 11 in the morning. We should get up now,” she holds his hands.
Damian tightened his grip and grumbled, “5 more minutes…”
“Since when did you become clingy like this?” Melody frowns.
“Don’t ask. Just enjoy it,” he mumbles.
“E-Enjoy? How can I enjoy it when you suddenly act like this!” Melody squirms.
“We are husband and wife. We can cuddle or do you want us to do more, hm?” Damian smirks.
“More?” She frowns.
He grins, “Yes, more…” his hand slowly slide down from her hips.
Melody finally got what he meant by it. She squeals and grabs the pillow before hitting him with it. Damian bursts into laughter while defending himself from the pillow attack.
“You fucking pervert husband!!” She yells.
“You shoulder see your face!!” He laughs so hard.
Celestia and Matthew walk in the hallway while discussing their task. Suddenly, Matthew held her arms made Celestia look at him with frowns.
“What is wrong with you!?” She sneers as she pulls her arms back.
“Did you hear something?” Matthew whispers.
The sounds of laughter of Damian coming from their bedroom. Melody’s voice sounds like scolding him. They sound so happy in there like a true married couple.
“They seem like in…great moment,” Matthe whispers.
“It’s a good thing. What’s wrong with it?” Celestia cross her arms on her chest.
“I mean…have you heard Damian laughing like that? Not a scary laughing-this is a happy laugh! And it sounds so genuine!”
Celestia rolls her eyes. But she has to admit, what he said is true. Damian never laughed like that and this was the first time they heard him laugh like that.
And it all because of…
Melody
She smiles softly thinking about that. She couldn’t thank enough Melody for existing in his life.
“What are you both doing here? Are you guys eavesdropping again?” Victor appeared behind them.
“Victor!! Since when are you standing there!?” Matthew looks at him with surprise. “And no, we’re not eavesdropping.”
“Yeah, right,” he rolls his eyes.
“You know our friend here is always being nosy,” Celestia scoffs.
Victor grabs Matthew’s ear and drags him with them. He grunts in pain begging Victor to let him go.
“And here I am…stuck with an immature colleague,” she sighs to herself before catching up after them.
___
They park in front of the bakery. Melody got out of the car and felt her heart twist. Seeing her bakery destroyed like this…
“Damn, this is bad than I thought,” Matthew spokes. Victor elbows him to shut him up.
Melody sighs as she slowly gets inside the bakery. She looks around the place. Everything is ruined.
“Don’t worry, Mel. We will fix all of this together once we settle everything,” Matthew beams.
“Isn’t it cost a lot?” She frowns.
“Money is not the problem,” Damian added.
Melody rolls her eyes, “You sound like someone arrogant.”
He shrugs his shoulder, “I didn’t. I just telling the truth,”
Melody scoffs and looks around the place once again. As she was busy with herself, she caught something. A black car pulls up behind their car.
That’s not their car, that’s for sure. All the cars under Damian’s have this kind of logo on them. Somehow, it makes her uncomfortable.
“Right, Mel?” Matthew grins.
“W-What?” She snaps out of her thought.
“I said we will build this like a fancy bakery. A lot of rich customers will come and buy your goodies here,” he wiggles his eyebrows.
Melody chuckles.
“Why don’t you create your own business instead of changing someone’s business,” Victor commented. “You make this bakery like it was yours.”
“I’m just suggesting, geez…” he pouts.
“Dam…” Melody went toward him.
“Yes, love?” Damian put away his phone, looking down at her.
“Uh…I don’t want to act panic but just calm down,” she whispers. “Is that your man out there, behind our car?”
Damian’s expression darkens when she says that. He slowly turns his head and sees an unfamiliar black car parking behind them. He gritted his teeth.
The car starts to drive away as Damian starts to look in their direction. Melody holding his hand.
“Are they…Matthias’s man?”
“Maybe. No one dares to follow us like that other than that fucking old man,” he grumbles.
“Should we go now?” She inquired as she felt not safe out there.
“Yes. Let’s go,” Damian gently gripping her hand, “Vic, Mat, I want both of you to make sure there’s no strange car following us.”
“Right away,” they nod.
“Celestia, you come with us,” he demands.
Celestia nods.
