OLIVIA
“What the hell is this bitch doing here?” That was the first question Kate asked the moment she stepped inside the living room and met Rene. She was the last person Kate ever wanted to see.
I folded my arms and sat on the sofa comfortably. “The answer you seek is staring at you in the face. I guess you should ask her. She’s in the best position to answer that question.”
I wanted Kate to take over the situation like a boss. I figured that it was going to ease the stress off my shoulders.
You bitch and homewrecker, what are you doing here? The last time I checked, you weren’t invited. So you better start talking now before I lose it. Don’t fucking mess with me.” Kate confronted Rene, just as I had predicted.
I couldn’t have been more proud of Kate for standing up for me at the crucial time when I needed her the most.
“I see that you brought your poor and wretched assistant to fight for you. What a coward that you are. You can’t even fight your battle yourself. Where’s your shame? It might interest you to know that both of them are no match for me.” Rene had the nerves to insult Kate right in front of Kate.
She never, for once, thought if Kate and I decided to join forces together to beat her to a pulp.
Kate looked at me in the face, seeking my consent to attack Rene with reckless abandon. I wasn’t standing next to her, but I could hear the heart beating faster.
She was damn ready to launch an attack on Rene. All she wanted was my approval. All I did was nod my head to support her decision.
What the heck was I supposed to do? Deprive her of having her pound of flesh? Hell no! Kate had waited long enough for this moment to finally arrive, like her life depended on it. It would be so selfish of me to stop her.
“You own the floor, Kate. I am not going to stop you from doing your thing,” I told Kate. I also saluted her to boost her confidence.
I brought out my phone to do a video recording of what was going to happen. I figured that it would be of great delight to have Rene’s downfall televised for the world to see.
“My boss just gave me her blessing. You know what that means-no one is going to save you from receiving the worst beating of your life right now. Repeat what you said if you have the nerves. I want to believe it wasn’t on purpose. Perhaps it was a slip of the tongue,” Kate dared Rene, already adjusting her dress and preparing her fist for Rene’s face.
“Now I believe that you’re not just a clown, you’re also deaf. Get the fuck out of my way,” Rene flared up. To worsen the situation, she spat on Kate’s dress-the same beautiful red gown that Kate had selected when Adrian took us shopping.
In the blink of an eye, Rene had already fallen onto the sofa with a black eye. The last thing I heard was a thunderous sound. It dawned on me that the sound I heard was Kate’s punch landing on Rene’s face, hence the black eye.
“You had the guts to punch me in the face?” Rene caressed her chin while still on the floor.
“I would hit you a thousand times if you dare utter more words. Do you have the slightest idea who you’re dealing with?” Kate raised her hand to slap Rene again for the second time.
It wasn’t enough for Kate to hit Rene in the face-she also tore off Rene’s dress. “That’s a payback for spitting at my expensive dress,” Kate bragged.
Just when I thought the drama was over, Kate rushed to grab an empty bottle of vodka from the bar.
She was about to smash Rene’s head with it when I stopped her. “What do you think you’re doing? Put down the bottle.”
“No, ma’am.
This witch deserves to die for the things she did to you. Death should be her reward. Please-let me complete what I started,” Kate begged me to allow her to carry out that evil plan.
“Then you should get ready to spend the rest of your life in jail for committing murder. This is the time when you get to use your brain, Kate. Don’t do what you would end up regretting,” I told Kate. I spoke to her nicely because I knew that was the only way to calm her nerves.
For once in my life, I could barely recognize Kate. She wasn’t the same girl I employed anymore.
Her eyes had metamorphosed to red. All I saw in her eyes was blood, like a vampire that’s about to suckle on the neck of its victim.
Kate was doing too much. She totally went out of character, and it was all my fault.
I thought she was capable enough to handle the situation. I guess I was wrong.
Slowly, Kate dropped the bottle on the ground. From the way she looked at me, I knew that she wasn’t pleased with my decision.
“I did this for you,”
Kate told me.
I quickly took the bottle far within Kate’s reach.
I had a feeling that Kate would still go to pick it up should Rene attempt to get on her nerves again.
When I was sure that the tension had faded away, I rushed to open the door for Rene’s exit. “Now leave and never return. You’ve done more harm than good to my life. I am glad that you learned the hard way.”
“Get ready to hear from my lawyers for this assault. I’ll make sure you both pay for what you did to me,” Rene threatened us. Even in her pathetic situation, her words were sharp like double-edged swords.
“Bring it on!
I can’t wait for that to happen.
Don’t also forget to explain to the cops why you hired assassins to have me murdered,” I clapped back at Rene.
I had no plans to confront her about the attack on me, but she called for it. I couldn’t fold my arms and watch her threaten me with some damn lawsuit. I had to do something to save my ass.
Rene picked up her bag and walked to the door. She didn’t even make an attempt to deny that she hired assassins to have me murdered.
The look on her face said it all.
She had no idea I would find out. What a way to uncover her tracks.
“This isn’t over yet.
I’m coming back.
And when I do, you’ll regret your existence,” Rene said before leaving.
I shut the door against her with the last bit of strength I had.
One would think I wouldn’t step out again after shutting the door that way.
What a day it had been!
“Water!
Please get me a glass of chilled water,” a faint voice called. I turned around and saw Kate looking pale and exhausted.
It was safe to say that her altercation with Rene had drained the life out of her.
