Callie clenched the photo. “Could they have kidnapped my father? They are notorious thugs in Ylosea, capable of anything.”
Malachi signaled her to calm down. “What’s their motive?”
Yes, what was their motive? Scarface had no reason to do this.
Callie quickly remembered that after Reuben disappeared, she had approached Jaquan because she suspected Shamar’s loyalty to him. But Shamar was hospitalized, and she dismissed her suspicions about Jaquan
Without Shamar, Jaquan’s motive for the crime became unclear.
“What we know now is that this van entered a surveillance blind spot and might have been switched, so Reuben’s final disappearance location isn’t this club.”
Callie suddenly thought of something. “Have you investigated the owner of this club?”
Malachi nodded. “Jaquan has been in a lot of trouble recently. Our chief told me not to provoke him for now and wait for further investigation. Miss Marsh, do you have any overlooked details that you can share with me? It might provide some clues.”
Callie sat quietly for a while, her mind racing with thoughts.
Regarding Reuben, Jaquan had no vested interest in him. They didn’t even know each other. If it was Jaquan, it must have been aimed at Nelson and herself. What could be so important to warrant such drastic measures?
Callie couldn’t figure it out.
“It’s okay if you can’t remember. We already have people closely watching Scarface and will inform you immediately if there are any leads.” Malachi gathered the photos and said, “We can’t directly contact Jaquan. If it’s convenient for you… you could try, but don’t alert him.”
Callie understood.
After Malachi left, she sat for a while and then made a phone call. “Joaquin, can you check Shamar’s visitor records for the past three months?”
“Shamar? Who is Shamar?”
“Shamar Oconnor from the Oconnor family.”
Joaquin understood.
He quickly investigated, and by evening, Joaquin arrived at Callie’s place with the information.
“There weren’t many visitors, mostly his relatives. Of course, Nelson wasn’t one of them.”
Callie scoffed. Of course, Nelson wasn’t there; if he cared, Shamar wouldn’t be hospitalized.
She read through the list line by line. “Is he still in a coma?”
“Yes. The doctors say he is unlikely to wake up.”
The visitors were few and close to Shamar, but Callie suddenly noticed a familiar name-Lucia.
Callie narrowed her eyes. Why would Lucia visit Shamar?
“I know this person. I saw her at Club Paradise; she’s Nelson’s mother,” Joaquin noted.
Yes, she hadn’t appeared in a long time.
“Although she has no ties with the Oconnor family anymore, it makes sense for her to visit after such a major incident.”
Callie pressed her lips together, doubting Lucia’s motive.
Lucia was a refined egoist who wouldn’t care about her own son, let alone a nephew.
Oh, she almost forgot that before Dale went to prison, they were partners.
Callie tapped her fingers. Lucia visited the hospital every month.
Though she couldn’t pinpoint why, something felt off.
“If you have time, keep an eye on her movements for me.”
Joaquin’s surprise was evident but he didn’t ask directly. “Are you in some kind of trouble?”
Callie didn’t know how to explain Reuben’s disappearance to him.
