The image was eating me up. I tried to peel my mind off it but I couldn’t. Something told me it was Jenna.
It couldn’t be her, she was safe at home.
I had to walk away from the window because it wasn’t helping. I sat on the chair beside Marcellino’s bed and when I closed my eyes, I saw Jenna being carried into the hospital.
I had enough.
I stood up and decided that I was going to go home. I closed marcellino’s door, that was the best I could do, we could only pray no one decides to stab him with a needle.
I chuckled at the thought and pressed the elevator button, the door opened and I walked in. The elevator stopped and a stroller was being pushed inside.
The first person my eyes fell upon was a man wearing a white shirt that said ‘I followed by a heart then Budapest ‘ His face was white with fear. I moved backwards to accommodate space for the stroller to be pushed inside and when I saw who was laying on it, my brain literally stopped working.
I stared at her face for a very long time, without moving. The elevator stopped and they were pushing her out.
I followed them and finally found my voice.
“Jenna..”
I stopped the stroller. “What happened to her, whe-where are you taking her?”
The tourist was hugging himself, he looked up at me.
“Do you know her?”
“She’s my girlfriend” I said following the stroller.
I held her face and shook her shoulders.
“Baby wake up” I whispered.
“Is she hurt?” I asked the doctors.
I had so many questions.
How did she get here, low long has she been here, what is going on, why is no one explaining anything?
The man looked like he believed me and suddenly the look changed to that of disbelief.
The doctor was saying something but I wasn’t listening.
“Who are you?” I asked him.
What was his role in all of this?
The doctors pushed her into a room, when I wanted to follow her, they told me I couldn’t come.
“Why not?” I asked, trying to push my way in, I didn’t want to cause trouble, I just wanted her.
“We’ll see what we can do” the doctor said “But you have to wait out here”
“What do you mean by you’ll see what you can do, what is happening to her?”
No answer, the doctor just disappeared into the door.
I was breathing heavily, my blood was cold and my mind was disoriented.
I needed to see her, I needed answers.
“You can’t go in there” the tourist said to me as I tried to go.
He took a step back as I turned to him.
“Where did you find her, did anybody hurt her?”
“Calm down man” the tourist said. He was shaking.
“I’m calm” I told him and he surveyed me.
“I was lost, she walked past me and I guessed that she was English speaking. I approached her and she told me she was lost too. In the middle of discussion, she likes and she falls down to the ground, I was so terrified, I wanted to leave her there and run but I’m better than that. I waited on that road for about an hour before a car decided to stop and give us a lift to the hospital. Throughout those times, she came in and out of consciousness and she was bleeding….”
I lost my grip.
I moved to chair to sit down, my hands were trembling.
“She was bleeding?”
“Yes… I .. They took her from a room downstairs and said they needed to move her here ”
An employee of mine was pregnant, it was her early stage. She bled one afternoon, by the time we reached the hospital, she lost the baby and she was lucky to have been alive herself.
I had driven as fast as I could, we reached in less than five minutes and yet…. It had been more than an hour since Jenna…
No!
I stood up and went to the door, I pushed past the door and I was met with five separate doors.
When I opened the first one, I saw doctors all wearing green surrounding a man that was laying on the bed with his abdomen torn open.
I closed the door quickly and moved to the second door.
“Hey, you can’t be in here” someone said.
“I need to see my fiance” I said nicely.
I was going to be nice and polite, if it would make me see her then I would be the nicest person on the planet this instant.
“I’m sorry sir, but you can’t be in here”
The nurse walked out of the door carrying a tray, her eyes met mine, she was the same nurse that had coke to check in Marcellino.
She frowned upon seeing me, confusion clouded her face.
“I just need to know how she’s doing. I want someone to tell me that she is going to be fine”
The young doctor sadly shook his head and whispered his apologies. I could try the remaining three doors to see which one she was in the room. i might get kicked out, I didn’t want that.
“Please be patient” the doctor said in relief as I turned around to leave.
Nothing can happen to her, nothing can happen to my baby.
My hope was in words.
She’s fine, the baby is fine. When I got to the seat, the tourist was praying. He opened his eyes.
“Do you want to join me?” He asked me.
“I don’t know how to” I told him.
“It’s simple, just ask for her to be healed. Those doctors can do only little”
“You’re discouraging me”
“Sorry… You don’t have to join me, I’ll pray on my own”
I rested back on the chair and closed my eyes. For the first time in my life, I talk to the invisible being. I was desperate.
