Chapter 263: These Are Tears

“I overslept today and accidentally exceeded the speed limit. I was caught by a female traffic officer,” Judith said, leaning against the car window with a gloomy expression.
“No matter how much I pleaded, she wouldn’t let me off the hook. She even said that as a law enforcement officer, I should be held to a higher standard,” she continued.
“She made me direct traffic for two hours as punishment. I had no choice but to do manual labor here. When I saw it was you, I stopped to chat for a bit,” Judith added.
“Oh, and I wanted to remind you to remember to have dinner with my family tomorrow night,” she said.
“Aunt Emily called this morning specifically to ask you to attend the gathering. You better not to mess it up,” Judith warned.
“Otherwise, you’ll regret it.”
Just as she was about to ask Darnell where he was going, Bailee, who was leaning on Darnell’s leg, suddenly moved and caught Judith’s attention.
Bailee’s face was red, and her clothes were slightly disheveled. Her legs, wrapped in black stockings, were slightly curled up, revealing her enticing figure.
“Ah!” Judith startled and screamed before angrily accusing Darnell, “You scumbag! How dare you fool around with other women behind my back and even do it in broad daylight! Do you have no shame?”
Darnell quickly waved his hands and explained, “Judith, it’s not what you think…”
Judith angrily shouted, “I caught you red-handed, yet you still want to argue? I should just shoot you dead!”
She didn’t even know why she was so furious.
“Darnell, I never expected you to be this kind of person.”
Judith clenched her fists and continued, “Engaging in such despicable acts in public is vulgar and worse than animals.”
“Mmm…”
At that moment, Bailee woke up from the commotion. She released her grip on Darnell’s leg and instinctively brushed her hair away from her face.
“Mr. Halford, what’s going on?” she coughed and wiped away the tears on her face with a tissue. “What happened?”
Judith’s eyes widened as she stared at Darnell’s tear-stained clothes. Scenes from porn films immediately came to mind. This made her even angrier.
“Darnell, you scumbag! You’ve disappointed me,” Judith exclaimed. She slammed the car window and turned away decisively. Her face showed a mix of resentment, desolation, and disappointment that she couldn’t put into words.
“Captain Meech, this isn’t saliva,” Darnell said helplessly. “These are tears!”
But Judith didn’t listen to his explanation and walked away resolutely.
“Mr. Halford, did I do something wrong?” Bailee asked with a dazed look on her face. She looked at Darnell with confusion and said, “Wasn’t that Captain Meech?”
When the Apex caused trouble at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, she saw Judith.
Darnell shook his head with a bitter smile. “Don’t think too much about it. You did nothing wrong. Let me take you home.”
“Vulgar? Disappointed?” Bailee sat back in the passenger seat and murmured those words she had heard earlier while thinking about the rumored romantic relationship between the two of them.
Before long, her sharp mind caught on, and she suddenly exclaimed, “Mr. Halford, does she think we… were doing something inappropriate?”
Her head dropped, and when she glanced down, she noticed the damp patch of tears on Darnell’s shirt. Her cheeks instantly flushed bright red, resembling a ripe apple.
Of course, anyone in the same situation would jump to that conclusion about them engaging in something sordid.
Bailee looked apologetic as she said, “Mr. Halford, I’m sorry.”
“I didn’t expect things to turn out like this. Let me explain to Captain Meech,” she suggested.
“She’s a reasonable person. She will listen to my explanation.” Although Bailee had feelings for Darnell and felt a little sad about his relationship with Judith, she still didn’t want things to escalate between them and cause Darnell more trouble.
“It’s okay. The more you try to explain, the harder it gets to clarify things,”
Darnell shook his head gently. “She’s a police officer. She should be able to see through the situation. Just stay calm. I’ll take you home first.”
Honestly, he hadn’t expected Judith to be this upset. She looked as if she wanted to kill him. Even if he and Bailee were involved, she shouldn’t be this angry.
Given her personality, it would make more sense for her to throw out a few sarcastic remarks. Darnell pondered for a moment but couldn’t come up with an answer. He rubbed his temples and started the car.
Bailee murmured softly, “But she…”
Darnell reached over and patted her shoulder reassuringly. “It’s okay. I’ll get you home first. I’ll call her later to explain.”
With that, he pressed the accelerator and drove Bailee back.
Ten minutes later, Darnell dropped Bailee off at Horizon Yard. There were still many beggars at the entrance, who immediately nodded and bowed when they saw Darnell.
They didn’t beg for money persistently but instead used clean towels to wipe off some dirt from his car. Clearly, they knew he was an important guest from the Apex.
When they arrived at Bailee’s rented house, Darnell noticed that she seemed calm and wanted to leave. However, Bailee pulled him inside with a pout.
“Mr. Halford, you’ve helped me so much and ran around all day. You should at least have some water before leaving,” Bailee said.
Darnell couldn’t refuse her request and followed her inside. The three-bedroom apartment was cozy, and each room had its own distinct style for the three women who lived there.
On the balcony were several pieces of underwear in various colors and styles-some featuring cartoon characters-presumably Shayla’s clothing.
“Mr. Halford, don’t look at those,” Bailee warned him as she poured him a glass of water before rushing to the balcony. She closed the beige curtains with a touch of resentment in her voice.
“You drink some tea while I take a shower and change my clothes.”
Bailee cried hard in the car earlier. Her clothes were ruined along with her makeup. She wanted to freshen up, and she also made a decision.
“Okay,” Darnell replied as he sat down on the couch with his tea in hand.
Bailee stuck out her tongue playfully before disappearing into her room. After waiting for a long time without any sound from inside the room, Darnell grew worried about gas leaks or electrical issues. He got up and knocked on the door. “Bailee, what are you doing in there?”
He knocked on the door four or five times before saying firmly, “If you don’t respond soon, I’m going in.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the door opened.
When the door opened, Darnell was stunned.
Bailee changed into silk pajamas that revealed her tall figure while her hair was still wet.
The pajamas were somewhat see-through. Not only could Darnell see Bailee’s fair skin, but he could also sense the vitality emanating from her body.
Darnell instinctively lowered his gaze and saw two fair legs, leaving endless imagination behind.
Especially that scent of apples that kept wafting into his nose-it was intoxicating indeed.
What an enchanting apple this was.
