Kane soughed. To think that the woman had been afraid to tell Nathan about his babies because she was afraid.
He shook his head. He didn’t blame the woman, he actually blamed Nathan for not saying anything. Perhaps, if the big man had, perhaps all these could have been averted.
The first conflict between the packs could have been avoided for one, because the ancients would have come to play then. So, how would Arnold have gotten away with his plot?
Secondly the triplets would have grown up together, and their powers harnessed properly, that would also set back the plan of the wicked. Heck! The plans wouldn’t have resurrected in the first place. This pack would have been the strongest, and his mate wouldn’t have been under fire. He wouldn’t have allowed it. But this was the fates wasn’t it?
The fact that nothing happens the way people would want it to, that had been the reason for the prophecy of many centuries, the fate of the pack had been written since a long time ago. It was just playing out a written script.
Yet, he couldn’t afford Derek the same luxury. Dude should have held onto his mate. Fate had given him a second chance, and he had messed it up too.
“It’s okay, Sheila. You hadn’t known things would turn out this way. You were just acting on a mother’s instincts, trying to protect your children. Don’t worry or think on the what-ifs. Just focus on the future. Dwelling on the past isn’t the right way.” He heard his sister in law say, and nodded, agreeing with her. There was no need to dwell in the past, but of course Nathan wasn’t included in that. He was very much the present, unless he had given up to his demons?
He turned to stare at his brother. The same question was mirrored in his eyes. He was about to ask Julian and his troublesome twin, when he remembered Juilian’s words.
Nathan had given them the assignment of locating Sheila. Surely the old man would wait until the return with answers right? He hoped so. It was just a month ago. But as an ancient, he knew that anything could happen in a month.
“Julius, do you think Nathan is still with us? I think it’s wise that we send him a message, that we have found Sheila. Let’s give the man a little more hope to live.”
Sheila nodded, shifting her eyes to rest on Julius, knowing how a life mate was important to an ancient. She bit her lips as she tried to imagine the pain that she had put Nathan through. She couldn’t even imagine it.
Then she hadn’t known much about ancients, but when she had started staying in the human town, she had researched far and wide about it, each information had been like a stab in her already weak heart, but she had chosen the protection of her children, over him, even though staying away from him had been so much painful too.
Everyday, she had to pep talk herself on the reason for staying away from him.
He should be alive. He should see his kids. She prayed desperately in her heart.
“Yes, he should be alive. I would meet him tomorrow. It is best I don’t do it through the mind link. I don’t think we have exchanged blood either, to maintain the privacy of the information. We are leaving for home tomorrow right? Then we can meet him together. Sheila can come with us too, if she wants.” Julius answered.
Kane nodded his head, the plan was good. Hopefully, the dude decided to wait more. He should. Please. He whispered to the air, hoping for a miracle.
“So, the necklace, he gave to you?” Melvina asked, recovering from the shock waves that had been resonating all over her since the disclosure of the owner of the necklace.
“No, he didn’t. He never parted with it.” Sheila answered, looking as confused as the people in the room.
“So, how did it get to Emma’s place?” Lucille echoed the question that was on everyone’s mind. “Could it be that they had met?”
Maya shook her head. “I think if Emma had met her father, she would have known, or rather the man would have known. If I get your characteristics right, you lot are hyper sensitive. It could be that the man had visited the place. You remember that the house had been burgled one time, but nothing had been taken from it. We had seen the necklace outside. So maybe, he never stopped visiting Sheila’s house so that he wouldn’t miss her if she happened to return.”
Sheila gasped, her mind reeling from the likely truth in Maya’s statement. What if Nathan had remained faithful to checking in on her all these years?
She shuddered involuntarily, thinking about it. He needed to be alive. Goddess please. She whispered the prayer in the air.
Kane cussed, his mind resonating in the same frequency. “Quick Julius, send a message to the prince. Surely he isn’t at risk too since he already has his mate. Ask him to find Nathan, and tell the latter that you have found Sheila. Quick tell him, ask him first to confirm if he is still with us, for everyone’s safety. Nathan wouldn’t be a good foe to have, if he turns to the other side. He would come after us, seeking to find her, even though he wouldn’t be able to see the light again.”
Julius nodded, and immediately sent a message to the prince privately, since they had exchanged blood with him one time, to ensure their loyalty to him.
The table waited in silence for the answer, their heart in their throats, their mind clouded with prayers.
When a smile touched an inch of Julius’s lips, they all sighed in relief, especially as Ava let out a deep sigh. Of course she will be the first recipient of the good news.
“According to the prince, Nathan was last seen yesterday, ragged but still with us. I gave him the rundown version of what is happening. He is out to seek Nathan as we speak.” Julius finally spoke.
