CHAPTER 502: DURING LUNCH

Eva looked up smiling, her hands spread out in the air as she saw Freya step into the big dining hall with the rest of the ancients. They were done feeding.
Freya cooed in the air, before stepping around the table, aware that the rest had stopped eating, to stare at them.
Freya lifted Eva in her hands, and took the little girl’s seat, keeping the little Eva on her lap. She turned aside to Maya who smiled back, wanting to ask her how the feeding went, but furrowed when she didn’t know how to ask that question, how to ask how a feeding went, how they caught the humans and fed on them.
Derek, seeing the grimace, winced. He had the feeling too. As a matter of fact, he felt bad for the humans used as preys, even though Agrip had explained it to them when they had started eating that the humans would enjoy the experience, might be the best thing they would experience in their life. The feeding gives them a highness that is greater than cocaine or any of the drugs. And that if left, they would keep asking for more, to be a feeding tool.
Derek was still processing that. He wondered if the feeling can be experienced by werewolves or was it reserved for humans.
“Do you want a bite?” Maru asked him tiredly, and he shrugged. He can’t say that he wasn’t curious. He must be crazy.
“Welcome. Thanks for joining us. There are enough seats at the table.” Peter mentioned, gesturing to the empty seats round the large table. It was a table reserved for kings and their feast.
People seated at the table include Clem and Shane, Maya and Curtis, Peter and Melvina, Sheila and Lucille, Derek and Agrip, Ava and little Eva. And of course Anthony.
The ancients nodded at the welcome, before finding seats, each choosing a seat that is close to their mates. Julius for one hurriedly took the seat next to Ava; the other blushed at the display.
The anciients could be overzealous in their affections. Derek sighed wistfully; the seat beside him was empty. Emma. He had really fucked up.
He caught his mother’s eye, and looked away when her eyes began to brim with an apology. There was no need for that. The deed was already done. Emma was halfway across the continent. No miracle could get her here now. The miracle had happened at his party but he had abused it. It would never happen again.
He watched as his mother and Maya got up from the seat, and began to pack up the plates. It was time for talks. Sheila and Lucille helped out too.
The table was silent, until the four returned and took their seats.
Just as they were about to speak, two little sparrows flew into the window lane and stayed, watching them, but of course they weren’t aware of the two birds, their minds were consumed with anticipation.
“Well, to start with, Clem has found his mate, daughter to Legardo, and then Legardo isn’t Legardo.” Peter began, clasping his hand on the table.
At his words, Clem sighed, rubbing his face, still not believing that his mate had been near him that night, and he hadn’t touched her. He couldn’t help but wonder what she would be feeling. He still remembered how Maya had acted when Leo had acted all stupid with Zoe.
Derek had filled him in on all those things that had happened at Curtis party. Would Penny be feeling that way? Would Legardo allow the union?
“Well, honestly, alpha, we are not sure that is even good news. Legardo seems cunny, so he would probably use this information to his advantage. He would either call for the union of the packs and permeate his attacks when we are not looking, or use his daughter as a spy, since the both can’t be apart from each other.” Dobah said, looking at the face of everyone at the table, as if making sure that they were listening.
“I could go over to the pack.” Clem said. “It could be the other way around.”
“And you think they will allow that?” Dobah asked, piquing his eyebrows, not understanding the dullness of the lad. To go to the enemy pack, without the protection of his pack people.
“If you were in his position, what would you do?” His mate chastised him through their mind path, and he sighed.
He understood that he was being harsh. Well for one, if he was the one, he would stay with her in her clan, or better still, kidnap her for himself. No way would he have allowed a day to pass away from her presence.
Clem sighed, and reclined against his seat, his mind filled with thoughts.
“You know we don’t have to make a decision now, until the girl shows interest in getting to know him.” That was Maya, her eyes taking in the pitiful state of Clem.
Even though they had their rough times, she still wished him well, and knew that her old friend didn’t like the attention that was put on him, so she had to deflect it.
A smile ghosted her lips as he looked up to her, his eyes shaded with gratitude.
“That’s right. There are more weightier issues to consider at the moment. I think we should trade information, and see how far we could go from there.” Blenda suggested, rubbing her protruding stomach softly, her eyes straying at the moment to the birds on the window pane.
Very beautiful birds she thought, relaxing in the beautiful energy surrounding them.
Lucky them! She thought, they had no worries.

“She is looking at us! That woman is quite perceptive! Tempest we are in trouble!” Ketura screamed from within the body of the bird, grateful that Tempest had thought it wise to cloak them too with a shield that would let them talk.
“Be calm, Ketura. Our energy is not foul, if anything it is relaxing.” Tempest replied calmly.
Ketura noticed that her friend was whispering. In the bird’s body, it was as if she was just opening and closing her golden beak.
