CHAPTER 473: THE GROUP OF SEVEN II

Lucille gulped down saliva when she heard Freya’s voice in her head for the second time. She wasn’t sure if it was because her sister was aware that there was a mate speaking to her, or because the latter could access her mind.
Could all the supernaturals gain access to her head? She wondered, sniffing her nose, when she, for the first time, perceived the sweet smelling scent of Freya.
It was quite different from the weird, but not bad smell she perceived from the others. Could it be because Freya was her sister?
Most likely.
Lucille heard Freya say, in her head of course.
But not every supernatural can access your head. The reason Kane can, is because he is your mate. He had seen you last night before our mother had sent him away with a camouflage. I can access your thoughts because you are my sister. But you can hide them from me though if you wish, just like Emma. I will teach you later. As a matter of fact I have a lot of things to tell you. I can’t wait till we are out of this miserable place.
Lucille soughed, after Freya’s statements. She couldn’t wait to leave here either.
She looked at Derek for the second time, and then at her mother.
Sheila was still in thought, her heart warring between two options.
As much as she would like to get out of here with her two daughters and seek for her third daughter, she couldn’t quench the little voice telling her to stay. And then there was the warning of the old woman who had managed to revive her from her comatose state.
She still needed the pack, or rather they needed her and her daughters.
She looked at Derek. The one whom the old woman had mentioned was a great lycan and the best complement to her first daughter, and sighed, doubting for the first time the words of the old woman.
This coward, a great lycan? Maybe the woman had been talking about Anthony, her nephew.
She would have a hard time forgiving Melvina too, her so-called best friend.
Even if Melvina had the excuse of ignorance, had not some part of her nabbed her for the resemblance she had with her daughters?
One thing that had endeared Sheila towards Melvina those past years, was because of the latter’s hunch.
It was damn strong and reliable. It had saved them and the pack from a lot of mishaps. So, what the hell had happened to it? Is it twisted now like the evil queen? She wondered, her eyes trailing from Derek to Melvina whose eyes were gazing forlornly at her son.
“Get up.” She said to Derek. “I will stay. It’s obvious we have a lot to talk about. Please, let them have some seats too.”
She pointed to the group of six now. “They seem to be my daughter’s friends. I would love to know them better, especially that one…” she said, shifting her finger to point at Kane who looked unruffled by her glare. If anything, he was amused.
Kane was amused both at the fact that his mate was naive to his kind, and the fact that he had thought that Sheila was his mate. He could see now why he was mistaken.
Beneath the amusement was the curiosity of how Sheila had birthed three daughters, each with different gifts. Who was their father? Was he still alive? And then where was Emma?
Julian and Aiden seem to think that the girl was the prophecy. If she truly was that, then they should be out there looking for her. After all, he had already gotten what he came here for. He has seen his mate.
The happiness brimming within him was second to none. The colors all around, though less intense now, still amazed him. He couldn’t understand how he had been able to hold onto a grey existence for hundreds of centuries ago without giving in to the dark beast within him, which hungered to be the undead.
He was happy now that he had waited. If not, how would he have enjoyed this so much pleasure? The waiting had been worth it.
“Thanks a lot, Sheila. Everyone, please sit down.”
Kane heard the Alpha say, and sighed. Seems his getaway would have to wait.
Well, it was okay as long as the girl, Lucille, didn’t leave his sight.
He wasn’t sure if it was her name, but that was the name of the white wolf that had saved him in his dream.
What’s your name, beautiful one? He asked, without hesitation. He smiled when he saw Lucille turn and frown at him.
Even her frown was so cute. He wanted to drop a kiss on her forehead and then her eyebrows.
The intensity of his feelings and his romantic intent at the moment surprised, yet thrilled him. He couldn’t wait for them to be alone.
My name is Lucille.
She replied.
Good! His mate was a quick learner. Mind communication through private mind paths seemed to have been established.
But her reply had been a snap. An angry snap. His mate wasn’t happy that he was invading her thoughts. But that was fine, they would sort it out later.
“Kane, take a seat.”
He heard his brother, Dobah, say to him, and nodded, momentarily distracted, before stepping a few steps ahead, and sitting down on the seat that the pack members had brought for them.
It was a long wooden bench, with a front panel. It felt like they were on trial in a court of law.
He mused at the thought, watching as everyone in the hall sank to their seats, their eyes trained on Alpha Peter, who stood up right at that moment to address the crowd.
What does the man have to say?
A welcome address? An apology?
Well, the coward should be first. He had a mate to know.
