CHAPTER 405: QUERIES

Derek watched skeptically, the creases on Shane’s face deepen as the latter’s eyes found and stayed on something. He followed the eyesight and felt his forehead scrunch up when he saw Leo walking out of the prison house with two flasks, a food flask and a water flask. Who did Leo visit in prison and feed? He wondered.
“What is Leo doing?” Shane asked, echoing his thoughts.
“I’m not sure.” Derek replied. “But we will know if we ask him.” He added, walking hurriedly to accost Leo who hasn’t seen them yet. The latter was strolling towards the other side of the pack, another angle which led to the entrance of the pack.
“Leo!” Shane called out dramatically, seeing that the latter would out-walk them since Derek has refused to reach out to him either through their mind link or out loudly.
Leo stopped in his movements immediately, taking in a deep breath to calm his already bristling nerves, so as not to give away even a tiny bit of how he was feeling at the moment, or the fact that being caught holding flasks coming out of the prison house wasn’t freaking him off.
Done with the deep breath therapy, he swirled around, a short faux smile on his face as his eyes met with Derek’s.
“Hey guys… what are you doing here?” He asked, looking all surprised and eagerly curious to know the reason for their presence at this side of the pack environment.
“We are looking for Anthony.” Derek replied. “Is he there? Have you seen him around?” He asked Leo.
“No, he is not here currently. I believe your father sent him with some others to the White Sted Pack to make a bargain.” Leo answered.
“But now thinking and talking about it, don’t you think that is dangerous on its own?” He inquired, wanting to steer the conversation from him in particular.
“I believe it is. But I have faith in Anthony. He would know what to do.” Derek stated, the creases on his forehead deepening further as he thought on the issue that Leo had raised up. Legardo was unpredictable. What if seizes them up, and uses them as a tool to bargain for his son? The more he thought on it, the more stupid and reckless he concluded the decision was. His father wouldn’t allow that, unless they had something up their sleeves. He had to talk to his father already, so that he could know when and how to commence his duties. He also wanted to see Emma. It was already afternoon.
Leo shrugged at Derek’s statement, his head cocking at an intuitive angle when Shane asked him about Lent’s brotherhood.
“No, I don’t think he has a brother. From the little I have gathered since I had come back, they say that the guy is his distant cousin. I believed because he can communicate on the same mind path with us. He is one of us.” Leo mentioned.
Derek sighed and looked at Shane.
“What is the problem?” Leo asked, stepping closer to the both of them, having seen the look of skepticism on their faces.
“Well, we had been thinking that he was a spy… considering his strangeness at pack’s training, and his timely appearance. I don’t know if you had noticed, but the fighting members of the white sted pack had infiltrated our pack through the tunnels. Only an insider would have given off such information.” Shane stated, and Leo furrowed his eyebrows at the new piece of information. He hadn’t heard of it nor had he noticed it. His mind rather had been filled with thoughts other than that of the pack.
“That’s… interesting. We have to find and query Lent, if Anthony isn’t around then.” He suggested, and Shane took his lips in, wondering if it was a good idea. Lent wasn’t in their clique even though he was a known member of the pack, especially among the ladies. But Anthony was. And that had been the reason why they had thought to search him out first to do the questioning and research work for them.
“Derek, you are an Alpha now. Lent is answerable to you now, whether he is an older folk or not.” Leo piped in, having seen the hesitation on the faces of his two friends.
“He might act defensive though, considering that our questioning might lead him on to think that we are suspecting his cousin for spy-ship.” Shane pointed out, and Leo shrugged.
“That doesn’t really matter. The safety of the pack comes first.” He said, and Derek nodded, agreeing with him.
“He is right.” He mentioned. “Let’s find him out.”
Leo nodded, leading the way towards the habitations of the pack members, when Shane remembered the reason why they had stopped him in the first place. The flasks.
“Hey Leo…” He called.
“Yeah…” Leo responded, without turning back or pausing in his movements.
“Why are you with flasks? I would have mentioned that you had fallen in love with one of the prisoners, but for the fact that you have already found Maya, your mate. So, what’s up?” Shane asked, a teasing tone to his voice.
Derek nodded his head, remembering too the matter that had led them to the chief of his pack warrior’s in the first place.
Leo gulped down saliva, his steps slowing and faltering for a minute.
“Nothing really.” He replied. “I had just gone to check out the prisoners, especially the newest one, to find out if there was anything else, he would love to bring to our notice.” He said.
“With food and water?” Derek asked, his right eyebrow going up as he reasoned out the issue the more.
“Yes. He had mentioned that he wouldn’t say anything until he was at least given food to eat. I’m sorry I had done so though if it was against our policies.” Leo stated.
Derek and Shane furrowed their eyebrows at Leo’s apology, still not grasping the food and water theory. Since when had the latter being moved by that?
