“So, where were we?” Emma asked, smiling innocently, breaking the stunned silence in the hall.
Before she had spoken, a pin drop on the floor would have been heard literally. The hall was so still, until she had spoken, and until Claire’s mother shouted at her.
“How dare you… you filthy human…” The woman was still ranting, when suddenly she got dumb. She tried talking, surprised at the turn of events, but she couldn’t even open her mouth. She stared wide eyed at Emma, wanting to plead for mercy but for pride, confused on how to break free from her. She should have shut her mouth.
There were murmurings now. Emma could hear them, as usual.
“She has powers? What the fuck! How did that happen?”
“She is a witch?”
“Or a vampire? Don’t you see the resemblance between her and the other girl?”
“But she doesn’t smell like one. She smells like a human.”
“I thought she was human. What just happened?”
“What is happening? I’m beginning to think that there is a missing part of a puzzle here?”
“I don’t think she is a human. Do you remember that day in school, when she had come to school smelling like a hybrid wolf, that we couldn’t control our thirst for her?”
“Yes! That’s true. What if she is a hybrid?
“I don’t think she is a hybrid. But if she is one, then our Alpha is wrong. We are in trouble, if she is truly his mate.”
” What about Claire? Derek had claimed her as his mate.”
” I don’t think she is his mate though. Something is missing here.”
” Wow, the whore has powers. Well, that’s super cool at least. She is not entirely useless.”
“Ok, now… I want to fuck her.”
“I think we are in the dark somewhere.”
Emma smiled the most, hearing these comments.
She also turned aside to wink at Prescott.
Of course, she hadn’t taken the initiative to make the irritative woman dumb. No. That had been all Prescott’s doing. The squirrel was really something else. He was really her partner in crime.
“So let’s continue from where we had stopped, before the stupid woman had interrupted us.” She started, staring innocently at Derek whose eyebrows were furrowed such that his face was masked in a frown. His lips were set in a thin line, and she couldn’t help the path her thoughts had wandered the next minute. The lips that had driven her crazy with kisses. The lips that had lapped the sheen of sweat off her breasts. The lips that had massaged the folds of her wetness.
“Stop that!” She heard him shout in her head, and smirked, a bit startled at his outburst. She hadn’t known that he had been reading her thoughts all these while.
She would have loved to torture him the more, with some more erotic imaginations, but she was suddenly tired. She wanted to get out from here, away from him, away from everyone here.
And so, she put up a blockage around her mind, not wanting to hear him speak to her ever again, in case he wanted to.
The slight widening of his eyes informed her that he had wanted to do so.
She didn’t care now.
She will make sure that she never cares again.
And so, with that decision made; she opened her mouth to say the final goodbye, steeling her heart for whatever pain she would feel as an aftereffect of doing that.
“Goodbye Derek. I’m not waiting for your answer any longer. You should go and attend to your mate. See, someone is with her already. A guy at that. Go and do your job.” She said, her eyes on Curtis who was trying to sit Claire up on the floor, not wanting to carry her away, for fear of triggering the anger of the pack. But nevertheless he still caught their attention, especially that of his sister, Maya.
Derek wasn’t fazed by Emma’s statement. He didn’t even turn aside to look at Claire whom he could hear whimpering in pain.
He just kept on looking at Emma, drinking her in for the last time, according to her.
He knew he had really fucked up this time around. His wolf had even deserted him. He felt empty, almost calling her back when she gave him a final look and turned around to leave, but for threat of the disintegration of the pack at that.
He still kept a blank face even when Freya took some steps and stood before him, glaring at him like he was a disgusting object.
“The alliance is broken.” She stated, causing gasps to echo around the hall.
But she wasn’t done talking.
“I don’t think we can trust someone who backstabs his savior, worse, someone who backstabs his mate.” She concluded, before turning around, and walking away, flinging her hand across Emma’s shoulder, as they strolled towards the entrance of the big hall.
The whole people in the hall watched them until they left.
But before they reached the doorpost, Ava ran towards them.
Maya did too, wanting to comfort Emma, but not before staring at her brother and Claire.
She remembered then that her brother had mentioned about finding his mate.
He never told her who she was.
Could his mate be Claire? Could it be the reason why he had looked so grumpy, even whilst laughing with the guys? She thought, giving them a last look, before joining Ava in the sprint.
She, too, was thoroughly disappointed in Derek.

“Why are you panting?” Tempest asked her friend who had just returned from spying on the Blue Moon’s Pack.
“Did anything happen to her?” She asked, but seeing that Ketura wasn’t saying anything, if not looking like an electrocuted rat, she dropped her next statement.
“Please don’t tell me that my sister has her.” She stated.
“No no. At least not yet.” Ketura replied, shaking her head.
“So, what’s the matter then?” Tempest asked, folding her arms across her chest.
“He rejected her.” Ketura replied, shocking Tempest.
