“What are you doing?!” Maya hissed sharply, harshly, when she felt Leo trying to forcefully disengage her from the hold of Yodah. Although she was happy that the plan had worked, she was not in the market for the attention that they were already garnering. Couldn’t the idiot behave civilly, and ask her for a dance, rather than trying to grab her away from Yodah’s hands roughly?
“You are coming with me.” Leo stated flatly, still trying to get her away from Yodah, but failing. No matter how he pushed, and dragged her hand, it was like he was attempting to pull a mountain to himself; an impossible feat. This was attracting attention to him, he knew, but he didn’t care at the moment. He just wanted Maya to go out with him. They needed to talk, or whatever his wolf wanted. Seeing that his pulling wasn’t working other than getting attention to him, he let his eyes wander to the vampire’s face. The dude was smirking.
Leo cussed in anger as he realized that the latter had been the one making his effort fruitless, and not Maya.
“Let her go now.” He gritted out, almost seeing red when Yodah chuckled like a kid had just spoken.
“Are you this rude?” Yodah asked him, amusement dancing in his eyes, his hands still wrapped around Maya’s waist, not in the bit swayed by the murmurings he was hearing from the crowd, or the pleading gaze of Maya. He wouldn’t let her go till the wolf boy behaved appropriately like a gentleman should do.
Leo huffed, hearing Yodah’s question. He tightened his fists, shifting his gaze to Maya. She was uncomfortable with the stares she was getting from all around them, and he was the cause of that. It hurt him for some reason he couldn’t fathom. But what choice did he have? He couldn’t leave her here with Yodah. The next time, the vampire might compel her to give him a french kiss!
“Maybe you should quit being a strong head, and act nicely. I think that’s what the vampire wants from you.” He heard Derek state in his mind, and sighed.
Was that so? He thought, darting glances between Maya and Yodah, again. The vampire was looking at him with a raised eyebrow, the smirk was gone.
“I’m sorry about that. I’m just not in a good mood tonight. Can I take her away for a second? You can dance with her later.” Leo requested, his eyes filled with a manly plea, hoping that his friend was right.
“Hmm…that’s what you should have done earlier than acting like an angry dictator.” Yodah replied scornfully, before turning aside to look at Maya, a knowing glint in his eyes.
“Maya baby, do you want to go with him?” He asked, holding in a smile when Maya retorted with a huge no.
“I told you so…” Derek sang in Leo’s mind, reminding the latter of the discussion that they had had in his room earlier.
“What do I do?” Leo asked, understanding Derek’s statement now. His mate wouldn’t go with him without a fuss. It was his fault for bringing Zoe to the party! If not, Maya would have been in his arms. He was sure that she was his mate now, for he hadn’t behaved like this, unashamedly in front of a crowd, because of a girl, not even for Zoe, not even when he had caught her kissing another werewolf at Curtis’ party.
“You plead with her. Simple. and be fast about that. The attention is getting much.” Derek said, happy that at least his chief pack warrior had gotten his senses back. Again, for the second time that night, he felt a huge camaraderie for the vampires in the room. He knew that it was Freya that had put this into play. He had listened in to their discussion; his listening ability had gotten sharper tonight. His wolf, Maru, wanted out, needed a run, but he wanted to see and hold Emma, before unleashing his wolf who was already groveling for space. Tonight was his night after all.
“Okay.” Leo replied, before tuning off.
He inhaled deeply, before turning to Maya, not letting his thoughts linger on the fact that the vampire still had his hands around her waist.
“I’m sorry. I have been stupid.” he apologised, uncaring about what the multitude around them would say.
“Could you give me a minute of your time?” he requested, a huge smile enveloping his lips when he saw her give him a shy nod.
Immediately, the vampire’s hands dropped from her waist.
“Take care of her. And don’t worry about the crowd, they didn’t hear a dime about what happened here. They just watched curiously.” Yodah stated with a smile, before walking away from them, towards Freya and Aiden who gave him a thumbs up for a work well done.
Now with her mate, Maya didn’t know what to do or how to talk. She feared to open her mouth, so as not to say nonsense. She always does so when she is nervous. From the corner of her eyes, she sighted Zoe fuming, her fists balled, and her chest heaving up and down like she would explode at any time.
She sighed in relief and relish, watching her stomp out of the hall.
“Can we go out…leave this hall? I would love us to talk in privacy.” Leo asked, grateful to Yodah for his consideration. He hadn’t expected the vampire to cut off the hearing of his people, or to play along with his mate, so that he could see her for who she was. Yes, he connected the dots now, and knew that it had all been a play. Derek had confirmed it too. He would thank the vampire dude later. For now, he just wanted to be with his mate, bond or no bond.
“Yeah, sure.” Maya enthused, catching her breath the next second when she felt his around her waist, when she felt the tingling sensations just that one touch had caused. Her wolf, Sia, howled in happiness and contentment, grateful that the waiting and drama hadn’t been in vain. She turned around, as Leo led her out, catching the eyes of Freya, wanting to thank her but smiling afterwards when the girl winked at her. They would be very good friends. She was sure of that. Vampire or not.
A loud bang outside the hall went across the room causing an instantaneous stop in movements. Maya, immediately turned around and casted a long glance at Derek. Their attackers had come. He had to go to his room.
