Upon hearing these words, Ulric instinctively looked at Rosalind, his face darkening.
Her small face visibly paled, and she forced herself to appear calm, though her eyelashes trembled. After several seconds, she nodded. “Alright, I will go.”
“If you don’t want to go alone, I can accompany you.”
“No need. Let’s go, Malcolm.”
Rosalind’s footsteps showed signs of panic, and it was only when Ulric wrapped around her waist that she finally got into the car and left.
Malcolm watched as the car gradually drove away until it disappeared from sight.
A sense of guilt washed over him.
Malcolm knew he shouldn’t have brought up her mother at this time. It was her sensitive spot.
But he couldn’t help feeling angry!
Who did Ulric think he was, giving away all these possessions to him as if it were charity? Claiming it was compensation? It was nothing more than humiliation!
Malcolm didn’t want to argue with Ulric because he had already lost. It was a done deal! But Malcolm didn’t expect that even when Rosalind came to retrieve some belongings, that man would follow along!
Ulric could be so considerate of Rosalind’s feelings in every aspect. Malcolm didn’t believe that Ulric hadn’t considered how upset he would be if he tagged along with Rosalind.
Since he had done so, Malcolm wasn’t just going to sit back and do nothing! Ulric might be great, but he had a troublesome mother! Who was to blame?
But… Malcolm felt sorry for Rosalind.
He believed that Rosalind must be feeling incredibly hesitant and conflicted about choosing between uncovering the truth behind her mother’s death and being with Ulric. Given her tendency to avoid confrontation and keep everything bottled up, the fact that she was willing to give up her two children as a trade-off to spend a month with Ulric showed just how deeply she must have loved him.
From Ulric’s somewhat lost gaze earlier, it could be seen that Rosalind probably hadn’t revealed anything to him yet. She probably wanted to give this relationship a month’s time, indulging in each other without thinking about grievances.
It was rare for Rosalind to make such a decision.
He really shouldn’t have mentioned her mother at this time…
…
Inside the car, it remained as quiet as before.
However, the atmosphere was no longer tense like before. Instead, it became heavy and cold.
For the fifth time, Ulric turned his head to look at her and finally caught Rosalind’s gaze.
“What’s wrong?” He spoke softly.
Rosalind shook her head. “Nothing. Maybe I’m just a bit tired.”
It was clearly a lie and an attempt to brush it off.
“You’re not happy about me giving those things to Malcolm?”
“No, not at all.” Rosalind tugged at her lips and forced out a smile. “He has taken care of your children for so long. You should definitely give him something as a gift. It’s just… a bit too much.”
Gifts could express one’s gratitude, but if there were too many, it would inevitably be insulting.
“Because of taking care of the children all these years, he hasn’t paid much attention to his career. It’s impossible for him to join W Group now. He wouldn’t come even if invited, so I gave him a company.”
As for the mansion and luxury car, weren’t those normal gifts?
With these things, if Malcolm wanted to get married, there would immediately be countless women wanting to marry him! He didn’t have to be worried about not having a wife, so he would not steal one from the other man.
“Don’t force him to accept it. Malcolm has his own thoughts,” Rosalind said worriedly, afraid that their conflict would escalate further.
“Alright.” Ulric didn’t hesitate and agreed directly.
The car arrived at Easthaven Bay.
Rosalind got out of the car and looked up at the building again, her emotions difficult to put into words.
Ulric wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder and smiling softly, “We’re home again.”
